Enlil Ninlil username

[edit]

Hello, in March you renames my account from Enlil Ninlil2 to my current one, and said that someone else also had that username. I believe that account is also mine, the email might be sixofeight_borg@yahoo.com.au. If so then they can be merged or if you want to confirm it and send an email to the account. Let me know please. Hi there. Accounts cannot currently be merged. However, you can use your preferred account name on any wiki with your regular login, and you are welcome to redirect your old account to your new one. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 22:01, 29 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rename account

[edit]

I received a message in french about a rename, looks like you're annoying a lot of people with these renames. I can't quite understand the reasons you listed in french as I've never signed up for the french wikipedia.
My account on the english seems to be intact while here on wikimedia I've lost a name that I rarely used.
What's the story?
How do I sign this message now?

Hi there. You now have one account that you can use everywhere. If you can log in with your username and password on the English Wikipedia, you should be able to do so here as well. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 22:01, 29 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I, too, received a message that my Wikimedia account name "clashes" with another (Wikipedia) account name and must be changed. The irony of this is that both accounts belong to the same person — me!Daqu (talk) 23:15, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

User:AllyUnion

[edit]

Hi,

I noticed my account merge was incorrectly done. My original username is en:User:AllyUnion. The following accounts I own and were renamed (they should have the same email address for all of them):

If you can please fix the attributions and delete the renamed accounts, I'd certainly appreciate it. Please let me know if there are any actions required on my end.

Thanks!

User unification: please unify single-user-login Hella and en Hella~enwiki to Hella

[edit]

Deer Keegan,

I've always thought that these user names had been synchronized years ago ... but whatever happened, there are enough leads to show that my "International" User Hella should be the same in the English wikipedia which is now named Hella~enwiki.

It is not that urgent, but would you please be so nice and change that back. I'd prefer to have my (small number) of changes in the en.wikipedia currently attached to User:Hella~enwiki again attached to User:Hella.

Thanks, Hella (talk) 07:46, 27 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of User Page

[edit]

Hi Keegan, could you please telle me why my Commons user page "Djehouty" was deleted and shifted to "Djehouty~commonswiki"? The user talk page still exists. --Djehouty (talk) 10:51, 20 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Djehouty: you likely had an unattached account, but it's of no matter now: you own and can use your username on all the projects, and abandon the ~commonswiki-named account. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 00:09, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Keegan ,

[edit]

I want to understand why my username Halyo , that i was registered first for it was given to somebody else , this is my family name and i am used to it .... i don't think that is legal what are you doing without asking me!!! this is rude . Thank you

Unfortunately, priorities had to be given and off-line use was not one of them. You can request a new name by visiting Special:GlobalRenameRequest on any wiki while logged in. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 00:11, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

User Wollmersdorfer renamed but not renamed?

[edit]

Hi,

in my (or not my?) talk page talk:Wollmersdorfer~enwiki I found a message, that my account will be renamed. Also I remember that I got a mail about this. I than managed to have only one global account keeping the name Wollmersdorfer on all wikipedias, i. e. keep it, as it was. Also the link to rename shows Wollmersdorfer as the current name, and not Wollmersdorfer~enwiki. The talk page User_talk:Wollmersdorfer shows a message "this page has been deleted ..." and it appears as non existing if I use it e. g. in the signature. Also I tried to post this issue at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical) but got filtered with Disallow; Filter description: Long-term pattern abuse. So I am running circels. Please help to solve this Gordian knot. I just want to keep the user name Wollmersdorfer, which is the same on all wikipedias with the same e-mail address. Thanks in advance. --Wollmersdorfer (talk) 09:39, 3 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Wollmersdorfer: You likely had accounts that were unattached to your global one prior to the great renaming. You have the User:Hollmersdorfer account on all wikis and can log in with your usual credentials everywhere. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 00:06, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Changing user names

[edit]

So, thanks to user name change my English Wikipedia account here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Ptok_Bentoniczny~enwiki has been renamed from Ptok Bentoniczny to Ptok Bentoniczny~enwiki (!!) because my account on Polish wikipedia here https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedysta:Ptok_Bentoniczny exists. So instead of mergin both accounts I get now a silly change on one account and the other one still exist and *both* are Wikimedia-wide. Nonsense, if I might say so. Therefore I have to ask - can you merge both accounts into one Ptok Bentoniczny? Ptok Bentoniczny (talk) 23:26, 12 February 2016 (UTC) PS: I'm aware that for 99,9999(9)% messages you left on my user talk were automated but you were the only one I thought of asking for this. If you are the wrong person, then sorry, too. If possible, answer on any of my both wikimedia accounts :PReply

@Ptok Bentoniczny: unfortunately accounts cannot be merged, and some split accounts is a consequence of SUL finalization :( I suggest you just stay with this account and redirect the other names to this one. It is not a solution, I know, but that's the best I can offer. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:21, 23 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Nieuwe synoniemen voor oude!

[edit]

Aliter (talk) 21:51, 20 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Aliter: Apologies for responding in English. There was a bug in the message that left the notice of renaming on your account "Aliter" instead of the old account "Blue Peter." As you might have noticed, your account was not affected by renaming. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:28, 23 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your message of 23 February 2016, but do I understand correctly that you, because I didn't ask for centralisation of a persona that I've made use of at some point in the past, in a previous version of the wiki, have now needlessly burdened me with useless separate unused synonyms for all wikis where I just happened to have used that? Aliter (talk) 20:48, 14 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Your accounts were all made into one account. You are "Aliter" on all wikis, there are no extra accounts anymore. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:21, 15 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Have my accounts been merged?

[edit]

On Slovene (sl) wikipedia I had a message from you that my account was in conflict with another account also called Heimdall1973 and would be renamed to Heimdall1973~slwiki.

Was the conflict about the accounts Heimdall1973 on English and Slovene Wikipedia? Both are mine, I created two accounts because there were no such things as global accounts then. (I don't remember if I created any more accounts for other languages.)

However, username Heimdall1973~slwiki doesn't seem to exist. I checked a page on Slovene Wikipedia that I remember editing and the edit is credited to Heimdall1973, not Heimdall1973~slwiki. Therefore it seems the renaming never happened. But unlike in the past, if I log into either Slovene of English wikipedia, I will now also be logged into the other one; the same thing happens when logging off. Therefore it seems my accounts have somehow been linked or merged. Yet you said to others that accounts cannot be merged. I am happy to have one account for all languages (and other wikis) but I would just like to know what happened. Thanks

Update

[edit]

After posting this I got the message that this was my first edit. My user page has disappeared, too. Have my accounts been deleted and an empty global account created with the same username and password? Heimdall1973 (talk) 16:52, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Heimdall1973: the notice that you received was a warning that your accounts would be split due to the renaming if they were not linked together. You linked your accounts before the renaming, probably just by logging in, so nothing was renamed. You account is global and will work on all wikis, your contributions should all be there: Special:CentralAuth/Heimdall1973. I do not know what happened to your userpage. However, userpages can be global now as well, so you can make a page here and it will show up on all of the wikis. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:30, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

How To Cancel An Old Account?

At the beginning of my Wikipedia experience I had created an account but promptly lost its password before I could do anything with it. I later created my current account and have been using it normally for a number of years. I would appreciate your advice on the proper way of having the dead account removed. Name Change

[edit]

I just now saw your message to me about my account having to be renamed. I must say, I am somewhat confused by this. Are you saying my account will only need to be renamed on the Wikimedia commons, or on a all Wikia sites including Wikipedia? If the latter is the case, I should let you know that I have had this username for probably close to ten years now, and I somewhat doubt the other person whose account name that this is conflicting with has had his account name as long as I have. In fact, there is a possibility that this other account may actually also belong to me and that I forgot about it at some point. When you get the time, I would appreciate it if you contacted me an provided me further details on this situation. Thank you. …Nahald (talk) 20:00, 3 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Nahald: the great renaming happened a year ago. Your account name is safe. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 22:15, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

my username!

[edit]

OK, I don't log in much. I admit it. Even my user page says as much. I realize this happened over a year ago. But still, I am upset that I lost my wikipedia ID!?! I've had it for more than a decade. How can I get dbw back? The name change form says dbw is taken, but I can still log in as dbw, so... what's up? Can I reclaim my name? Pretty please?

Hi there. Unfortunately, you cannot get your username back - it belongs to an editor on the Russian Wikipedia. Despite your account's age, there was an automatic determination of global ownership. The ability to login with old credentials was put into place to facilitate the renaming process and is being sunsetted, which will prevent future confusion. What you can do is request a username similar to your old username using a simple form that takes under thirty seconds to fill out: Special:GlobalRenameRequest. I'm sorry for the inconvenience so far removed from the renaming, I hope you find a new name that suits you. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 17:38, 12 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Request for help or mediation

[edit]

Hi Keegan: I've been expelled twice from editing in Wikipedia in Spanish (usernames: jgrosay and Caula), the first time because I added a translation of the English Wikipedia article about the aeronautical engineer Alexander Lippisch, and as somebody had translated into Spanish part of this Wikipedia article a few months before, and added it to an Spanish site: 'Administraciones locales', a Wikipedia editor openly said my translation added to Wikipedia was plagiarism. When I complained, and indicated that blaming somebody for a typified offense is another typified offense, and in this case, plagiarism never existed, the discussion became hotter, and an Spanish Wikipedia supervisor, Taichi, aided by Gusama and others, expelled me in a definitive way from editing in Wikipedia, Spanish language.

They claim my indication of the possibility of a legal action or sue for this restriction of freedom and accusation for an offense that never existed is against the rules of Wikipedia, but no need to say, and much less, to provide evidence, that no organization can put in force rules, internal or with a broader field of influence, that restrict basic, fundamental rights, and the right to self-defense, or to protect your work, in this case, by legal actions, is one of the so called: 'fundamental rights'. I started no legal action. I've tried to check what the contributions of these censors Taichi, Gusama, are, to ascertain their lines, but I found nothing but reviews and comments about entries by Wikipedia users. Would you please be so kind as to tell me if there's a procedure to solve the blockade, or to elevate the issue to an upper level: supervisor and/ or committee, to obtain an opinion, and eventually, intermediate in allowing me the right to return adding entries to Wikipedia, in Spanish and in other languages? I'm aware that you may not be fluent in Spanish, but automated, web-based translation services, such as Google translate, provide with English versions of Spanish texts that at least, can be understood. You may consider a copy and paste to a translator of the comments about these discussions in Spanish Wikipedia, and read it in English. Thanks for your kind attention, have a good season, best regards, + Salut--Jgrosay~enwiki (talk) 09:54, 21 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Username Lugsciath

[edit]

Dear Keegan,

my Username Lugsciath is unique - i'm using it on many wikis, on my own wiki and all websides worldwide. It is a construct of my own and no other man would using it (because i'm the first, like my fingerprint). If wikipedia will told me that another will use my name: It's me. Really. All this accounts could switched to me. If you have the possibility, please syncronize it anyway - it hate it to have an addition like "diversity" or something like this rubbish. Once more: It is my unique name since long time ago (until before 2002), from beginning the wikiage ;). Please help me preserve my name. --Lugsciath (talk) 15:20, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Dedwarmo: over a year ago, all accounts on Wikimedia projects were unified and made global. You had an account on Commons that was not attached to your main account. Your account on Commons was notified about this. The account was never unified before the renaming, so it was renamed. You still own the account Dedwarmo on all wikis, including Commons, and you can redirect the account to the proper name. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:46, 29 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Renaming of Markem Account

[edit]

I received a notification from you about my account being renamed. I believe the other "Markem" is myself. I had an account at Wikimedia/WikiPedia but could not remember what the password was that I had used. So I created a new account. Why not just get the password? The older account was when we were with airmail.net (if I remember correctly). Since I had started up my own domain name (sim1.us) and had dropped airmail.net - I couldn't get the password. So actually - you can just get rid of the other account. If it isn't the airmail.net - we went through several carriers. So it might be ev1.net, everyone's internet, or AT&T even. If you post the e-mail address of the other account I can verify if it is or is not my old account. Thank you in advance. (PS: I'd like to keep the plain markem account if possible.)

Just use the Markem account. It's fine. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:20, 6 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

My username

[edit]

Hello Keegan, I would like to ask you a favour: I have the same username on all wikimedia projects, but on Commons. In fact, you gave me another username: Save~commonswiki, and I had to assign another password. Then, you have cancelled my old Commons page (Save). Today, that page is not used. There is no other user with Save on Commons. Now, my question is: Could you please change my username on Commons, giving back to me my old userneme? (Save) Many thanks in advance for your help. --Save~commonswiki (talk) 20:18, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Save~commonswiki: A long time ago, a person had to register the same account on multiple Wikimedia project wikis in order to have their account. This is the case of your old "Save" account on Commons. A feature was introduced years ago to link all these accounts, but for a fraction of accounts this linking did not occur.
Two years ago, Wikimedia unified all of its accounts. This meant renaming some of these "unattached" accounts to make room for the global name. This is what happened to your old Commons name.
You do not need to use the User:Save~commonswiki account on Commons. You can log in using your "Save" username password and use the "Save" account there, and note on your userpage that the old account is your if you wish. Accounts cannot be merged, but you're free to abandon it and be "Save" everywhere as you should have been able to do in the first place. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:25, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Having trouble with global rename

Something wonky

[edit]

It looks like you renamed User:Anem~enwiki in 2015, but for some reason their edits are still showing up as being from User:Anem? See for example this history. Is this some kind of technical mess up? GreenMeansGo (talk) 12:24, 19 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yeah...I'm here for the same issue on Wikipedia but with a different account. Take a look at User talk:-oo-~enwiki and -oo-'s continuing contributions. The user's account was re-named back in 2015 but the account wasn't closed so they are continuing to edit under the old/invalid name and not the new/valid name. The bot - Maintenance script - renamed the account but didn't actually move it. Shearonink (talk) 16:18, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
The users likely owned both accounts, and the accounts were fragmented. Since SUL finalization, the users are free to use their main account and abandon the ~ suffix account that was moved. For example, the account User:-oo- was moved to -oo-~enwiki to make room for -oo- to edit. -oo- is now editing under their proper, preferred account name. This is how it should be. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 16:29, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
The notice at Anem's talk states "Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Anem..." I'm sorry but I'm not understanding what you are saying here Keegan. In GreenMeansGo's example above, there's a WP-account named Anem, it was renamed to "Anem~enwiki" but it wasn't really and apparently there's another account on some Wiki named "Anem" but that doesn't matter. The two enwiki account-names that GMG & I have mentioned above didn't exist until they were renamed by the system... I am confused. Do the ~enwiki accounts not really exist?... Shearonink (talk) 22:27, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Okay, here's what's going on here with both scenarios. There's nothing wonky going on, it's just that fractured usernames were complicated, and the remnants still are :) We'll be using CentralAuth as the reference, because it's better way to get the picture than contribution histories.

CentralAuth/User:Anem

In this case, there were at least two User:Anems. The one linked above edited off and on since 2010, editing from the Slovak-language Wikipedia. The Anem now known as CentralAuth/User:Anem~enwiki made a few edits on the English Wikipedia in 2006. Since Anem from sk.wiki had more edits, that account "won" the global name. Anem from enwiki was renamed, and the Anem you see editing on enwiki now is the editor from sk.wiki. There is now only one Anem. The rename notice on Anem~enwiki's page is from when their name was User:Anem.

CentralAuth/User:-oo-

User:--oo-- is from the German Wikipedia, and likely also owned the User:--oo--~enwiki accounts. Then English and German Wikipedias had the highest number of clashing usernames, almost 250k IIRC, and many if not most were owned by the same user on the other wiki. The accounts were created separately, and never unified. In this case, User:--oo--'s contributions to the English-language Wikipedia pre-April 2015 were moved to CentralAuth/User:-oo-~enwiki, and User:-oo- resumed editing en.wiki under their "proper" name, abandoning the old account. This occurs because we cannot merge accounts.

So yeah, this is confusing on the surface but it's how it was structured to work with clashing names. Hope this helps. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 22:46, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

[Security] Enable 2FA on OTRS account

[edit]
Tracked in Phabricator:
Task T122220

Hello Keegan,

I've been told to raise my concern to you regarding phab:T122220 which seems not to obtain lots of attention despite how important it is. OTRS contains sensitive information (not only in Oversighter-queues) and the access to it should be highly protected. This seems to be a simple configuration tweak + follow-up and I don't know how to make sure someone is going to handle it eventually. Do you have any suggestion? Should I maybe contact the security team directly?

Best regards,

--AntonierCH(d) 13:39, 19 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@AntonierCH: the best way to proceed is to make your voice heard in the Phabricator comments. There are not dedicated resources to testing and enabling features for our OTRS instance, so any time we do so there is potential risk (which equates to potential work, which gets back to resourcing). Expressing your thoughts on importance can help clarify the need for this request. That's about the best advice I can offer, I can't actually do anything about it myself. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:59, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Also, to clarify about the WMF Security team, their work centers around MediaWiki-related security, AFAIK. Their mandate is not around third-party software's security. I do not believe that has specific ownership, as I was getting to above. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:12, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your replies. This ticket is there since 2015 and I know it is rare that developer prioritise OTRS tickets. I will try to speak about it more broadly. Best regards --AntonierCH(d) 09:09, 21 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Amalgamate Abalg~commonswiki to Abalg account

[edit]

Hello, I would like to amalgamate my User account: Abalg~commonswiki with the account Abalg and keep only the name Abalg.

Indeed, my main account is on WP:fr and is called Utilisateur:Abalg. So at the time I created the same username for Commons. But when creating the global account, the Commons admin (you?) renamed my old Abalg account to User:Abalg~commonswiki while creating a new account named user:Abalg for the Global Wikimedia account. Paradox that I would like to solve. Thanks in advance. --Abalg (talk) 12:06, 9 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

P.S. I can not log in to my account Abalg~commonswiki ... and there is no more email address attached to this account (same email and password used with my Abalg fr-account, same email and password as now on Global account)

Thanks you for your answer. I already understood what you wrote. I repeat : I cannot login my old account "Abalg~commonswiki" anymore, my password doesn't work and there is no email address recorded anymore too. What have you done? It's Kafka!!! And I repeat again, I don't want to change the old account's name, I want to merge/amalgamate my real and old account "Abalg~commonswiki" with my new and fake account "Abalg". Please, help-me. --82.248.149.179 05:05, 13 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
So sorry, I thought your answer of April 2015 was the answer to my request above. --82.248.149.179 07:28, 13 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Accounts cannot be merged. You can use the Abalg account on all wikis, and on Commons you can denote that the renamed account belongs to you and continue editing as normal as "Abalg". There is nothing else that can be done. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 16:42, 19 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
It's in progress, some administrators take care of my case in this page. Regards, --Abalg (talk) 07:15, 21 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Cannot send to the channel

[edit]

Why cannot send to wikimedia-office channel? Is the issue related to the channel settings?--Juandev

Ah, I saw you going in and out. If I had to guess, it's that the nick you were using wasn't registered. Only registered nicks are allowed to talk in the channel, due to the frequent spam attacks that happen in there. I'm sorry to have missed your talking, please do continue to participate on-wiki until the next office hour! Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:05, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Merge account names

[edit]

I used to have the user name Skiwi, but now have user names such as

  • Skiwi~enwiktionary
  • Skiwi~sourceswiki
  • Skiwi~mediawikiwiki
  • Skiwi~metawiki
  • Skiwi~enwiktionary
  • Skiwi~enwikinews
  • Skiwi~commonswiki
  • Skiwi~specieswiki
  • Skiwi~sourceswiki
  • Skiwi~enwikivoyage
  • Skiwi~enwikiversity
  • Skiwi~enwikiquote
  • Skiwi~enwikibooks
  • Skiwi~metawiki

I want to change all these to the username "sskkiiwwii", but the rename page won't let me because "sskkiiwwii" (which is my account) already exists. Where can I put in a request too have these accounts merged please?

tia Skiwi

Renaming reason

[edit]

Hi Keegan, could please give me a hint for what reason such renamings (User:~shuri -> User:~shuri~commonswiki) took place? The question came up while cleaning old file descriptions. Should i then rename such a user link too or not. Thank you, --Arnd (talk) 06:45, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

User:MediaWiki default

[edit]

Obviously You got Your hands in renaming an account User talk:MediaWiki default

From what I read there, the page title should be "MediaWiki default~mediawikiwiki" or not?

I got there during search for the functionality of the Special page named Wantedcategories.

There seems to be no explanation on this wiki: MediaWiki:Wantedcategories because it got deleted.

What makes an entry to appear in Special:Wantedcategories? --Manorainjan 15:40, 4 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Keegan, I'm trying to ask Boyski-enwiki a question but I see from the info below (which I copied and pasted to here) that you changed this person's account. Do you know how I would contact this person? It's in reference to info he/she added for a hockey player named Don Simmons, but I don't know how to make contact. Please advise. Thanks.

User talk:Boyski~enwiki From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to navigationJump to search Your account will be renamed[edit source] Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Boyski. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Boyski~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yours, Keegan Peterzell Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation

Tilde-enwiki User and non-tilde versions both exist

[edit]

Hello,

I ended up at w:User talk:Jebbushell~enwiki, which you created, after finding a contribution by w:User:Jebbushell and going to his Talk page to welcome him. In leaving him a welcome message, I created the page. That page formerly existed and was renamed by User:Maintenance script with instructions on the "page formerly existed here" boilerplate to contact you. User Jebbushell~enwiki has no contributions on enwiki, and User:Jebbushell just became active. Should both users and both talk pages continue to exist? Can you unscramble this, if anything needs doing? Thanks. Mathglot (talk) 18:53, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rename and make the account splitted

[edit]

Hello, I recently uploaded a picture to the commons and found that my previous upload was gone and move to another account called Dodd~commonswiki.

My account Dodd, from zh.wikipedia.org is the global account I would like to use. Dodd on zh.wikipedia is the same one on commons. Dodd (talk) 02:18, 14 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I found the place to apply the name change. Thanks anyway. --Dodd (talk) 04:00, 17 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

French speaking Wikipedia Arbcom and Universal Code of Conduct/Functionaries meeting

[edit]

Hello Keegan. I am Triboulet sur une montagne, a member of WP:fr and a new member of the Arbcom (WP:fr). Sorry for my poor english, it is a long time since I have to use it.
This message to inform you that some of us will likely be present at the meeting (Universal Code of Conduct/Functionaries meeting). We are discussing it currently and it will depend of the precise time of the meeting I think. As far as I know, there will be 1 or 2 members of the Arbcom and maybe one steward.
On WP:fr, we just closed election of the Arbcom. We are now 6 but 3 new members without experience in conflict management. Unfortunately, the 3 experienced members cannot join the meeting. We will try to do our best but will likely have not so much things to say. In comparison to others communities, sysops of WP:fr are clearly involved in conflict management. There are historical reasons for that, especially difficulties to have a functional Arbcom during few years. We would ask you whether one of our sysop could join the meeting with us (a kind of observator for the Arbcom WP:fr) ? JohnNewton8 is active on conflict management topics and assumes a leading role to structure discussion about the UCoC on WP:fr. His presence offers the advantage to have a contributor with experience in conflict management for WP:fr and will be of benefit for our community. Cheers. Triboulet sur une montagne (talk) 15:02, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for contacting me. If the Committee would like to send an observer on their behalf I think that will be acceptable for the reasons you described. I believe the start time for each day (10&11 April) will be 15:00 UTC. I plan to email people who sign up to attend with firm times tomorrow afternoon (North American time). I hope that helps, let me know if there are further questions. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 15:42, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thank you Keegan. Have a good easter week-end. Cheers Triboulet sur une montagne (talk) 18:35, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Keegan

[edit]

I have no idea if you remember me, but that's not really important. I've run across an en-WP issue I thought you might be able to help with. Judging by the messages left here I'm guessing you're aware of Limpopo and Limpopo~enwiki and the rename. Aside from the "spam" issues I've mentioned at the existing talk page, I'm wondering if that user should be editing under the original name (these) rather than the one that is the renamed account. Apologies for dumping this in your lap, but I didn't feel comfortable just blocking the original account in an effort to force them into the renamed one, and I was hoping you could provide some guidance on this. Thank you Ched (talk) 16:49, 30 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mr Peterzell

[edit]

Hello, I'm coming again around my name ("- oh ?! another one today ?" - hum, I'm sorry ;).

My name is efka and this have been changed in year 2015. But the person who keep the original name have no write any contribution since 2011. I think that the renaming algorithm have take the list of homonyms names, sorted by country and unfortunately France is after Estonia (Eesti).

Is it possible, in this case, to recover my real name and my entire identity ?

Thanks for your awnser and your work. Best regards

Dear @Keegan (WMF), Your recent mass message regarding the Affiliation Committee may have some formatting issue. Kindly check it. Thanks signed, 511KeV (talk) 17:24, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

My email is defunct

[edit]

Just discovered I originally logged in with a now non-existent email add' hence cannot change it nor can I log in to see any contributions (not that I can remember what they were;-). There's lots of advice on changing personal details but it ALL requires a current, valid address as any reply disappears into the ether. 2A00:23C6:D0F6:9801:583F:A861:3002:B43E 08:45, 11 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Reverend Admin Keegan

[edit]

My name is Chavdar Likov. 3 years ago due to a bit of abuse on image policy and sources on English Wikipedia, I was banned by reverend Administrator Yamla. I tried several times to ask to be unbanned, but so far I have been denied. My user account on Wikipedia is User:Elan Morin Tedronai as you can see it. Yamla not only banned me from English Wikipedia, but after making lots of edits on Bulgarian Wikipedia, he banned me by IP. Is there no way I can be unbanned and readmited back in English Wikipedia? I have more than 15000 edits and was part of many projects. I might say and complain a bit that the behaviour and communication with Yamla were awful. He really was bad towards me. I am continuing in editing Bulgarian Wikipedia as I speak, but I really wanted to be admited back in Wikipedia. I can't make a request to be unbanned, it's a bit unfair from Yamla's side with hand on heart I can say. Is there no way I can be readmited in English Wikipedia? My email is chavdarster[at]gmail.com, you can contact me if you want and you can see my participation so far. I hope in good faith, that you will let me make a request or even unban me, Keegan? Really. I have been editing since 2004 as you. It's very hurtful to be banned for not such big transgressions: moving photos forgetting stating sources. I hope you'll show heart towards my plea. Regards: Elan Morin Tedronai (talk)

Your de:Kurier call

[edit]

Hi Keegan. You posted a call for candidates in a Wiki where not a single editor is eligible. I have to say that this is not very sensitive. Best, --Gereon K. (talk) 06:36, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I respectfully disagree. Our wikis are not closed ecosystems, it's not improbable that an editor who considers a different wiki their home wiki also participates on the German language project. It's also not improbable that an editor may learn about the election from a message on a wiki as active as German is, when a similar message may be missed on their home wiki. I'd much rather over-communicate the call for candidates than make an assumption on my own about the German language community, and shut them out of the process entirely. I'd consider that to be insensitive. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 15:22, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
