Kompleks prepoznavanja mesta početka, podjedinica 2 je protein koji je kod ljudi kodiran ORC2 (ORC2L) genom.[1][2]
Kompleks prepoznavanja mesta početka (ORC) je visoko konzervirani proteinski kompleks sa šest podjedinica koji je esencijalan za inicijaciju replikacije DNK kod eukariotskih ćelija. Istraživanja na kvascu su pokazala da se ORC specifično vezuje za mesto početka replikacije i da služi kao platforma za konstrukciju prereplikacionog kompleksa, koji sadrži dodatne inicijacione faktore kao što su Cdc6 i Mcm proteini. Protein kodiran ovim genom je podjedinica kompleksa prepoznavanja mesta početka. Ovaj protein formira sržni kompleks sa ORC3, ORC4, i ORC5. On takođe ostvaruje interakcije sa CDC45L i MCM10, koji su važni za DNK replikaciju. Za ovaj protein je pokazano da se specifično asocira sa mestom početka replikacije Epstein-Barr virusa u ljudskim ćelijama, i smatra se da je neophodan za DNK replikacju iz mesta početka virusa.[2]
