Genre painting

Genre painting is a style of painting. The painters want to show scenes of everyday life. The people are shown doing things they do in everyday life. Unlike with history paintings, the people cannot be identified, they are anonymous. They migt be identifiable as workers of a certain profession by the way they are dressed, or what they do. Grenre paiting is also called petit genre. History painting also has the name grand genre.
