Le Grand, Iowa

Le Grand is a city in Iowa in the United States. In 2020, there were 975 people living in Le Grand.[1] The town was first settled in 1847.[2] It was named after LeGrand Byington (1845-1909?),[3] a politician from Iowa City,[4] who had helped several early settlers. The first post office started in 1853.[2]

In 1874, a number of fossil crinoids were found in the local quarry. These are small sea animals that look like flowers. Many of these have been sent to museums around the world.[5]
