The arrangement of subfamilies follows Zug et al. (2001) as reported[1]. Relative to Zaher (1999):
- Boodontinae and Pseudoxyrhophiinae are combined in the subfamily Lamprophiinae
- Calamariinae and Psammophiinae are included in the Colubrinae
- Pseudoxenodontinae are included in the Natricinae
- Dipsadinae are included in the Xenodontinae
