[edit]BMW itself gives compression ratio of 8.0:1. [23]
However, the 1954 R68 supplement to the owner's manual gives the compression ratio of 7.5-7.7:1. [24]
Here, BMW repeats 8:0:1. [25]
Hawksley and other secondary sources give 8.0:1, probably taking it from the later BMW sources [26]
Even Wikipedia states 8.0:1 here: BMW R51/3
The German Wikipedia page states 7.5:1 [27]

- Puzzling isn't it? So what do we do, leave it out or assume that the 8.0:1 is the most authoritative? --Biker Biker (talk) 07:10, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- I suggest using 8.0:1 as the latest word from BMW. Until someone "proves" otherwise. Jeffrey M Dean (talk) 14:14, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
