Teaching Brain Mapping
[edit]I am an author of the paper "Brain mapping in cognitive disorders: a multidisciplinary approach to learning the tools and applications of functional neuroimaging."
Kelley DJ, Johnson SC. Brain mapping in cognitive disorders: a multidisciplinary approach to learning the tools and applications of functional neuroimaging. BMC Med Educ. 2007 Oct 22;7(1):39
http://www.biomedcentral.com/1472-6920/7/39
Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Medicine described a course model that may be useful at other large medical center to teach the tools and applications of brain mapping. Student learning gains indicated the course was well received and useful to students.
This could be added to an Education section.

- You clearly miss the point of a wiki - the persons with the knowledge edit the pages themselves - that is, they SPREAD their knowledge for the benefit of all. There is nobody here who will read your articles and then edit the entry.

History
[edit]Did the history of brain mapping really start in the 1980s? Maybe we don't need to include phrenology, but single cell recording goes back a few years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GyroMagician (talk • contribs) 07:54, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Brain mapping as a crime investigation tool and evidence
[edit]Currently about half the text of this page is a quote from an article stating that brain mapping isn't a very good tool for criminal investigation. I agree with the quoted section, but is it really necessary? Should we just delete this section? GyroMagician (talk) 14:22, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with you, and have already deleted it once, but the deletion was reverted by an IP editor without explanation. I am going to delete it again now. If somebody disagrees, they should come here to defend the material. Looie496 (talk) 21:02, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Looie496, I noticed your edit and the revert. Obviously I support the deletion - but I'd like to hear from IP editor to. GyroMagician (talk) 20:09, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Brain mapping coverage
[edit]Brain mapping is a research area that has received massively escalating funding. (see $100 million dollar project funded by Paul Allen (Microsoft) Allen Brain Atlas, 2009 NIH $30 million project Human Connectome Project (and related article Connectome), 1 billion euro, 10 year project, Human Brain Project (EU), and 2013 NIH $3 billion 10 year project Brain Activity Map Project
I envision the specific "project" articles will cover project management aspects (politics, funding, lead personalities, schedules, major milestones, broadly covered general news events, etc.) while the actual scientific details will be covered in singular (vs. plural) noun-topic-titled articles (encyclopedia style). Actually, after searching I was surprised how deep the coverage actually was already on Wikipedia. To create links to those I originated List of topics related to brain mapping. More details are included on the talk page. Please feel free to comment or edit.
I'm also pondering what "frequently asked questions" might be out there on the general topic of brain mapping? I started a very preliminary "guess" list. It really applies across all four major projects. see: User:Rjlabs/Brain mapping frequently asked questions. It's totally informal, just at the brainstorming stage. It's not intended to be an outline for any article, however if there are answers (now or in the future) contained in various Wikipedia scientific topic articles, pointers might be added in the List of topics related to brain mapping page out to them. Again, feel free to add, edit or comment.

Brain mapping conferences
[edit]On 9/1/2010 the following were added as links
- The International Brain Mapping and Intraoperative Surgical Planning Society (IBMISPS)
- Annual World Congress for Brain Mapping and Image Guided Therapy
But on 4/28/12 and 3/30/2013 they are removed. On first look both seem to have legitimate faculty:
- http://www.ibmisps-worldcongress.org/speakers.asp (updated link)
Legit or too commercial to be relevant here? Or some other reason for removal? Rick (talk) 06:09, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
