Talk:George Foster Peabody
Untitled
[edit]When I attempted to add my comments here my text disappeared "in an instance". Avon Edward Foote, Ph.D., former faculty at University of Georgia, College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Why is one George Peabody associated with education and the endowment thereof a "capitalist" and the other a "philanthropist"? Aren't they equally deserving of that title, or not?

Doesn't college merit mention in article?
[edit]Shouldn't the fact that an entire college, once quite influential, was named for him merit mention in the body of the article rather than a mere footnote? Admittedly the school is no longer extant, at least as an independent institution, but at one point was quite presitigious. Comments? Rlquall 17:16, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
There's also no mention here of Marjorie Peabody Waite, his daughter (adopted 1926). She's somewhat notable in her own right, having written a history of Yaddo and she had an award given in her name by the American Academy of Arts and Letters from 1956-1983 (search [1] by 'Award' for 'Marjorie' - its not listed on the awards page because its not given out any more). One of the recipients, in 1958, was Dorothy Parker. Bazzargh (talk) 17:39, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Identity Confusion
[edit]Why is this article illustrated with a drawing of the same guy that the article about the other George Peabody is illustrated with? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.252.252.64 (talk) 01:20, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I would also question why these two articles are using the exact same image basically. One of these two articles seems to be wrong. Not sure how wikipeople deal with issues like this though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.167.198.121 (talk) 19:49, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- The picture here is of the earlier George Peabody. I tried to get it deleted from Wikimedia Commons, but no luck yet. IceCreamEmpress (talk) 04:21, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- I just went ahead and deleted the picture of George Peabody 1795-1869, even though I don't have a fair-use/free-use image of George Foster Peabody to replace it with. I figured it was better to have no image than an incorrect image.IceCreamEmpress (talk) 04:25, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Pach Brothers - George Foster Peabody.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on July 27, 2014. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2014-07-27. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:31, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Possible (minor) Misinformation
[edit]Junius S. Morgan's (J.S. Morgan) wiki has him as the protege/business partner of George Peabody, not his son John P. Morgan (J.P. Morgan) which seems to contradict information given here. Many similar names are confusing so I could very well be mistaken. 122.150.155.51 (talk) 00:27, 3 August 2015 (UTC)cain f. eve. [1]
