Resurrection?
[edit]I'm sure I saw Corbett play the male lead (Prince Nekhlyudov) in a BBC TV dramatization of Tolstoy's novel "Resurrection" some time between 1962 and 1966. But I can't find any reference to it on IMDB. pmr (talk) 18:34, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. 1962, and this has been added to the page. REF https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/bd5e111f01fa4230bd4cc5eee8e69897 Tobyhoward (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
Wilfrid Brambell
[edit]Apparently he did not get along with Wilfrid Brambell, according to this, and the Bramwell article. Anyone know why? Format 08:36, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, it was the subject of a Channel 4 documentary a few years ago. Try here for a basic overview. Timrollpickering 23:47, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Burmese Nationalism
[edit]The articles in this encyclopedia are intended to be impartial. However, this article fails, in my opinion, to meet those standards of impartiality by its reference to the colonial British presence in Burma as that of an 'occupying' force. Such language, inspired by Burmese nationalism, can't by any standards be judged as even-handed or temperate. - Erm... one country goes to another country and takes it over without the consent or permission of the latter country's people. What else is that other than an occupation? To try and dress up the British Empire's disgraceful activities in any other language would be a bare faced lie. Angmering 15:28, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yeh, the Burmese must have been just delighted when the Japanese liberated them in 1942. I bet they would have been glad to see the back of the British, with celebrations, parades and everything. I expect they still commemorate the anniversary of their liberation even today. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.4.57.101 (talk) 16:28, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
OBE
[edit]Did Harry H. Corbett really get an OBE? I thought Sooty's Harry Corbett did, by mistake, when Harry H. Corbett (a Labour Party campaigner) had been meant to, and it was too embarrassing to undo the mistake. --Rumping 18:22, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- The OBE story looked too much like an urban myth for my liking, so I did some research. It is difficult, it is as though someone has put a merge tag on Harry Corbett and Harry H Corbett. I did conclude that Harry Corbett (Sooty) received an OBE in 1976. I cannot find a definitive reference, but there are mentions of Sooty receiving a mini medal.
- Investigating further, I have discovered Harry H Corbett (Steptoe) did receive the OBE. The reference is here: Harry H Corbett OBE. This is an interview with his wife, during which she produces the OBE medal and associated documents. Unfortunately, I could not see a date on the document. - I have removed the OBE claims and category because there was no citation, but I am now playing the interview with Maureen Corbett. Now that it has reached a part where the OBE is mentioned I have restored them with this citation.[1] Here are a few bookmarks:
- 14 minutes: props given to charities; with and without Wilfrid, Harry supported causes
- 16 minutes: commercial work; got on well with Wilfrid; unlike press statements, they "got on terribly well" (!)
- 17 minutes: Wilfrid often went on planes to Hong Kong
- 18 minutes: Wilfrid liked drinking, but we didn't
- 18 minutes: about Alan Simpson and Ray Galton
- 19 minutes: no autobiography
- 20 minutes: Maureen does not want to write biography: "so much I don't know"; Joan Littlewood's recollections
- 21 minutes: Maureen shows "the OBE which he was very pleased to receive" it; paperwork, rules and regulations
- 22:24 still image shows "Instructions from Her Majesty"
- 22:30 Harry "thought W C Fields was hilarious", "thought Laurence Olivier was a very good actor"

Hastings
[edit]From Talk:List of people from Hastings: I've deleted Harry H. Corbett from this list because I can't find a Reliable Source of his connection with Hastings. His Wikipedia page and other sources say he died in (hospital in) Hastings, but he lived in Ashburnham [2], close, but not Hastings Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:51, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
