confusing stats
[edit]the sidebar shows these stats: NFL Draft: 1987 / Round: 1 / Pick: 26 Debuted in 1983 for the Chicago Bears
But how could he have debuted in 1983, if he was drafted in 1987? One of them is wrong. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the guy so I don't know which to change. Any one else know which it is?Rhodesisland (talk) 08:56, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Good find. He debuted in 1987, of course. —bender235 (talk) 13:16, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Anyone know about his coaching style; the Cardinal faithful would be interested in that.

[edit]{{edit semi-protected}} Jim Harbaugh will coach at the University of Michigan in 2011. Guaranteed.

Photo update needed
[edit]Could someone add a photo of Coach Harbaugh that is a bit more recent? He's been coaching the 49ers for three years and we still have him with a Stanford cap. Thanks. Jusdafax 22:50, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Coaching Future
[edit]Until the announcement on likely Tuesday, just put in-on December 27, Bleacher Report and the New York Times reported that Harbaugh would be accepting an offer to become the next head coach of Michigan Football. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Samuelmarcus99 (talk • contribs) 06:21, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
On December 30, 2014, Michigan held a news conference announcing Jim Harbaugh as the University's head football coach. Mcconnellsc58 (talk) 18:49, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
- News conference is scheduled and pending, but it has not occurred yet. You can't put a news conference in the past tense ('held') when it is being held on the day after you insinuate it has already occurred. Marcyu--Marc Yu 14:24, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
do we change the infobox if/when he's officially Michigan's coach?
[edit]Should we have a college coach infobox ready to prevent a rush of people simply adding Michigan to his current infobox? - MichiganCharms (talk) 20:30, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
- The current one (NFL player) would seem more appropriate still, as it highlights both his coaching and playing careers. The head coaching record portion at the end should be changed to include his college coaching record though. -- Calidum 20:49, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
- I dislike the NFL player infobox because it lacks a satisfactory field for coaching records at both levels (having only regular season and playoff record fields). Steve Spurrier has a similar background as a player and coach and the college coach infobox suffices. -- MichiganCharms (talk) 00:54, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- I also agree that the college coach infobox is a better fit here. Perhaps we can modify the college coach infobox to contain draft infomation and professional stats? DMC511 17:12, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

- No. The college coach infobox omits key information about his NFL career. Changing would be incredibly silly--Yankees10 18:13, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- I don't see what it omits other than trivia like him being in the Colts Ring of Honor, which are better suited for the article's body. I'd argue that Harbaugh is far better known as a coach than he was as a player at this point, and his reputation is unlikely to swing in the other direction. But consensus is as consensus does. -- MichiganCharms (talk) 07:32, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
It will have to be changed back once he is no longer a coach, right. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 00:57, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
New NEWS today, (before Supreme Court)
[edit]Why was he there?
Headline-1: Jim Harbaugh Huddles With the Supreme Court
QUOTE: "He gave Justice Elena Kagan his heavily underlined book about legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant. She then asked him to sign it. Harbaugh also sat down in the office of Chief Justice John Roberts. “He showed me the Declaration of Independence written in stone,” he said. “Very memorable.”" -- AstroU (talk) 14:38, 5 August 2015 (UTC) -- PS: FYI for future editing.
- Apparently, he just wanted to take the tour and visit with the justices. He wants Judge Judy on the court. Read the article and that is all there is. Also read Sports Illustrated on this. Do a Google-search. -- Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 17:06, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Infobox Redux
[edit]I don't want to be overly bold, but I really do think this should be addressed: the player infobox has no fields for his college coaching record. Would anyone support a compromise where we place the NFL player infobox in the section on his playing career and then place the college coach infobox at the top? Or a move to the NFL coach infobox which does contain fields for college coaching? -- MichiganCharms (talk) 15:19, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, this definitely needs to be fixed. At least have separate boxes for pro and college, but in any event, his college record must be there. 2602:306:CFEA:170:8DC7:6904:8378:D763 (talk) 22:57, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

- The Big Ten Conference had this news release in November: "Michigan Earns Share of East Division Title." Even without it, the fact remains that the 2018 Michigan team was tied for first in the Big Ten East. Arbor to SJ (talk) 20:48, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
- Agree with Arbor to SJ, changed it back to T–1 with source. Michigan finished tied for first in the division. The fact that the conference has additional tiebreakers in place to determine its championship game participants is not relevant. Ostealthy (talk) 22:38, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

- Yes he did win the Big Ten East in 2018. It was shared with Ohio State, and since Ohio State won the head to head matchup , OSU got to go to the Big Ten Championship Game. Like 2021, when Mich and OSU shared the East championship, but Mich won head to head, so Mich got to go to the Big Ten Championship game. 96.29.177.138 (talk) 21:50, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

Your info is wrong.
[edit]I tried to fix ypir wrong info and someone who apparentOh doesn't know about the fact that Jim Barbarity DOESN'T get credit for the win on Sept 2, 2023 because he was SUSPENDED. Jesse Minded gets credit for the win. When you change info back and it is wrong, you add to the reputation of Wikipedia not being reliable. And if Wikipedia doesn't take new info or correct info, even though anyone is supposed to be able to provide info, then allowing people to add info without an account or without being signed in shouldn't be allowed. 96.29.177.138 (talk) 21:46, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
- This is correct. Harbaugh does NOT get credit for win on Sept 2 against East Carolina. He was suspended. Jesse Minter gets credit for the win. 96.29.177.138 (talk) 00:58, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
Harbaugh's coaching record at Michigan
[edit]There seems to be a lot of confusion about Harbaugh's record at Michigan this season and who gets credit for the first three wins of the 2023 season during his suspension. The NCAA database indicates that those first three game were credited to the four interim head coaches: Jesse Minter, Jay Harbaugh, Mike Hart, and Sherrone Moore: see https://stats.ncaa.org/teams/history/MFB/418. Page 2 of Michigan's most recent weekly release, prior to the Nebraska game played today (September 30), confirms this as it lists Harbaugh's record at Michigan at 75–25. College Football at Sports-Reference.com (https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/coaches/jim-harbaugh-1.html) should not be considered a reliable source for this kind of in-season nuance. The records there are loaded with inaccuraries. The site has never been subjected the kind of vetting that its sister sites like Baseball-Reference.com have. Jweiss11 (talk) 23:04, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- CycloneYoris, please take extra care when accepting edits related to Harbaugh's record this season for Michigan. The mgoblue.com document provided by the IP editor yesterday contradicts the edit made. And Sports-Reference.com should not be considered reliable in this case, as site is low integrity for these kinds of complicated situations. The NCAA statistics database should be considered definitive here. Erik255, please also keep this in mind as you update records. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 20:28, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

Team Change...
[edit]How is being the Chargers Head Coach not official, even when the NFL itself has announced it? Tdwizew (talk) 00:33, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- I know right! I kept getting the NFL’s official app going off about how Harbaugh is Chargers head coach. D3D3D3D3ogal6 (talk) 00:41, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- at least, I don't think he is employed with michigan anymore? Tdwizew (talk) 00:45, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Tdwizew: There is a massive difference between an official NFL Press Release, an example of which can be found here and journalists reporting it for NFL media reporting it like this article. [edit], why isn't his coaching career 'Michigan 2015-2024'? Even though he left after the 2023 season? Tdwizew (talk) 02:21, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- because he won't be the head coach of the wolverines for the 2024 season. It goes season to season, not by what the actual date was. FreshTec843 (talk) 03:38, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

His record in 2023 is 15-0. It is not listed correctly. 208.38.236.64 (talk) 07:10, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: Harbaugh was suspended from the first three games of the season, which did not count toward his won-loss record. —C.Fred (talk) 07:20, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
