Charity

[edit]

Does the bit about the use of the term "pennies from heaven" by charities really belong in this article? I would suggest moving it elsewhere. 68.77.111.101 16:02, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, so I moved that section to the Pennies From Heaven (disambiguation) page. — Loadmaster 19:40, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Synopsis

[edit]

Could someone add at least a very short synopsis of what the series is about? The article doesn't say anything much about it. Ben Finn 22:47, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Three years later, and we're still wating..! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.192.1.168 (talk) 00:38, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Project Tags

[edit]

Why is the musicals project tag here? Is this even a musical? -- Ssilvers 14:19, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reference inadequate.

[edit]

The "The Independent" reference, the only one in the notes section, does not have a link to the article in question. Could someone possibly fix this? 88.109.13.71 (talk) 22:09, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

John Christie/ Timothy Evans

[edit]

Is there any written evidence from Potter that links many of themes from Pennies From Heaven with that of the hanging of Timothy Evans in 1950? Evans was wrongly hanged for murdering his daughter and wife. Three years later John Christie was caught and he admitted to the murder of Evans' wife. When he went to the gallows, Christie, like Arthur in Pennies From Heaven, complains of an itchy nose, but is hanged regardless. Similarly Evans had a fractious relationship with his wife and Christie was a user of prostitutes. Both lived meagre lives in rented accomodation. I am not saying Potter based the whole of Pennies From Heaven on the case, but that he used elements of it to help form his plot and characters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Goldgreen (talkcontribs) 19:13, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The bit of Humphrey Carpenter's 1998 biography of Potter that deals with Pennies quotes Kenith Trodd about inspiration coming from a real murder of 1930s: "I came across a not very famous... Thirties murder in which a commercial traveller - with a prissy wife he didn't get on with... tried to incinerate a lookalike and assume his identity." (p. 346) No idea what case Trodd is talking about. Per$1$tenceofv1$1on (talk) 01:43, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Moonlight on the Highway

[edit]

Potter uses miming to song briefly in this 1969 play (not Midnight... as I say in my edit summary) so its use in Pennies from Heaven is not an entirely new feature in his work. Adding "extended" to the opening summary seems to add the necessary clarity without an unduly lengthy explanation. Philip Cross (talk) 20:29, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Barman credit

[edit]

Adding a reference (to a source which gives acting credits for the series), I'm taking out Will Stamp(e) as the barman, as he isn't mentioned. The only online sources I've been able to find that back this up seem to be sites that just mirror Wikipedia content. Since he doesn't appear on the BFI's 28-strong cast-list, and since, according to IMDb, he only appeared in one episode, hopefully this isn't a major loss. Legacy

[edit]

I think I'd like to merge the 'Legacy' section with the one on the 1981 film. What do other people think about this? Currently 'Legacy' starts with a reference to 'the original BBC version' and I don't know if this makes immediate sense. Per$1$tenceofv1$1on (talk) 13:46, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
