Template:NZ census 2018
Usage
This template is for use in referencing the population of New Zealand places using the 2018 Census data provided as Excel tables or comma-separated files by Statistics New Zealand at https://www.stats.govt.nz/information-releases/statistical-area-1-dataset-for-2018-census-updated-march-2020, and optionally including links to the more reader-friendly data at https://www.stats.govt.nz/tools/2018-census-place-summaries/
Expected usage would be between <ref></ref> tags. This template calls {{NZ census place summary 2018}} if more than one parameter is supplied.
Usage
The template requires one unnamed parameter, and can take up to twelve pairs of subsequent unnamed parameters.
- The first is the area description, obtained from Statistics New Zealand tables or searches. I usually append the area code matching the area description, because that's often simpler to search for in the table. If the reference is combining two or more areas, these are combined as a sentence in this parameter. See the examples below.
- The remaining optional parameters are in pairs, and can repeat up to nine times. Each pair is passed to {{NZ census place summary 2018}}
- The second, fourth, sixth .. twentyfourth parameters are the area description obtained from Statistics New Zealand tables or searches, but converted to lower case, with spaces replaced by hyphens and apostrophes and parentheses removed. Any macrons in the name should be removed.
- The third, fifth, seventh ... twentyfifth parameters are the area description in a more normal form, using capital letters, spaces and macrons as appropriate. It is required only for display and is not part of the generated url. The page name is used as a default.
