Theodore Yohannes Afework (born January 24, 2004) is a Canadian soccer player who plays for York United in the Canadian Premier League.
Early life
[edit]Afework began playing youth soccer with Calgary Rangers SC at age four.[1] Afterwards he played with Calgary Foothills FC and Calgary Blizzard SC.[2] In March 2017, he was selected to the Alberta provincial team at U13 level.[3] In August 2017, he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy.[4] In early 2022, he joined the youth system of German club 1.FC Nürnberg.[5]
Club career
[edit]In March 2023, he signed a professional contract with York United in the Canadian Premier League.[2] His arrival to York will be delayed as he will remain in Europe, while recovering from surgery on his quadricep, joining York after his recovery.[6]
International career
[edit]In 2019, he made his debut with the Canadian national program, when he was called to the Canada U15 team for the 2019 CONCACAF Boys' Under-15 Championship.[7] He was named to the provisional roster of the Canada U20 ahead of the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, although he was not ultimately named to the final roster.[8]
