An apology
[edit]I offer my apologies for the tone of my last message to you. It wasn't a good way of expressing myself. Obviously, you are free to take as much or as little notice of this apology as you like, and to leave it here or remove it, but I offer it for what it's worth. JBW (talk) 12:38, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. Nor was I expressing myself in a way that does me much credit. I did not intend to direct my frustration at you or anyone in particular. Perhaps it provided me an off ramp, at least for the short term. No harm done. 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 22:03, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
Haven't seen you around
[edit]Hey CD63, I noticed it had been a while since I'd seen you around. I hope all is well with you and yours, --Jack Frost (talk) 06:34, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for your note, Jack Frost. All is well, as I hope it is with you. It's great to be off-Wiki. All the best, 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:47C0 (talk) 01:23, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- a random Q: why don't you create an account? :-) —usernamekiran (talk) 17:55, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]Hey "Bob", in the deletion I think I missed your last message to me, but thought you might appreciate that I've had a go at trimming the list of publications at David Doyle (writer). I'm always happy for you to tag me, whether I can get to the article before one of your other WP:TOS or not, and have always found you point me to things that suit my editing style and preferences. I've really enjoyed working with you here and have learned from you. I hope that having a break is doing you good, and look forward to seeing you back around if and when you're ready my friend. Cheers, Melcous (talk) 10:36, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- Melcous, thank you. The feeling is mutual. Very best, 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:47C0 (talk) 01:25, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
Drmies, I reverted some blatant WP:BLP violations here, and suspect the account that added them months ago is probably a sock, or something. They've otherwise edited here only to add promotional dreck. As for the bio, it's almost completely unsourced. Now I return to hibernation. Cheers, 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:8400 (talk) 03:10, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- You met that person months ago already! Drmies (talk) 03:24, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- Yep. I went back through some of my last edits in September, and saw their continued disruption. 2601:188:180:B8E0:707A:9BF6:AF9D:8DFC (talk) 14:35, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

The Disney progeny have returned
[edit]Hi Drmies, I remember years ago that multiple accounts were blocked for adding a lot of promotional, unsourced and family trivia to Disney articles--probably there's a thread or sockpuppet report about this. At any rate, this looks like another incarnation [1]. If I go in an start reverting everything.....but really, at a glance it looks pretty bad. Please feel free to ping other admins if you're not interested or don't have the time. Cheers, 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:7E59 (talk) 17:44, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- Wow, that is some weird stuff. There's a couple of Disney freaks around, including Bambifan; I can't remember exactly which one you might be thinking of but I'm looking into it. Drmies (talk) 00:38, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Drmies, Two such old accounts, long since blocked, were Browndevelopers (talk · contribs) and Patrick Sean Murphy (talk · contribs). I'm guessing there are many more. 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:7E59 (talk) 01:44, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, they look like likely candidates. I can't look at them right now, but if you have a minute you could add them to the SPI (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Elias Disney). I'll tell you that CU revealed nothing else, no other accounts, nothing except for a bit of logged-in editing. What I'm actually interested in is that website, that disney2disney. In a quick look at some contributions from some socks, I didn't see that they were the one who added it, but I only looked at a few. Take care, Drmies (talk) 13:57, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- I think if I do anything, Drmies, it will be to start a discussion at ANI. This is mass spamming/promotion on behalf of the family across multiple articles. Whether or not it's block evasion, it's a single purpose account, and all the edits merit scrutiny and possibly mass deletion. That said, there's too much difficult stuff going on IRL right now, so I may not do anything for a bit. Thanks for following up and cheers, 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:7E59 (talk) 04:03, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- The hardest are the determined ones. There are those who were blocked, or whose socks were blocked, by admins who have long since retired. SPIs are our institutional memory. I'll look at this one again. All the best IRL. Drmies (talk) 14:46, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- This kind of stuff is just ridiculous. I'm going to dig for that one a little bit.
[2] and [3] are obviously the same person. I think this is one too, and this might be. They're also plugging http://www.circus2circus.com/index.html . Drmies (talk) 14:47, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

- Drmies: Also--and I know we don't like to stick COI templates on articles casually--if this is a years' long problem with multiple socks, it may be time to put the templates up on Disney family pieces. Just to let everyone know that the articles are disrupted persistently by relatives, and perhaps to embarrass the account(s) into behaving. But judging by this exchange four years ago [4], that ship has sailed. 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:7E59 (talk) 20:13, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Drmies or other talk page watchers, this is a long term promotional bio, mostly edited by IPs in the subject's home area. It could use a lot of paring, but it may merit an AFD first. Thoughts? 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:4FAD (talk) 21:09, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

RE: accusations of destructive editing
[edit]I appreciate you’re candor. Perhaps I will focus on the talk pages for now. Junius Cursus (talk) 20:39, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
- I would slow down in general, Junius Cursus, and read the guidelines, especially before making edits or contributing to talk pages of high profile articles. All content must be properly cited with WP:RELIABLE sources, and this is particularly important with WP:BLPs. Doesn't matter how 'cluttered' it may appear. 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 20:50, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

- Thank you, MaxnaCarta. That is a brutally poor article--I went through the edit history in hopes of finding a salvageable version. There is none. It's been a virtually unsourced vanity piece since its creation in 2006. 2601:188:180:B8E0:E88A:3DEE:416D:8F23 (talk) 05:12, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

- At least it's kind of a cool thing about being an IP editor. If it bothers you, you could edit through an account, but what would be the fun in that? Then you'd just have the same boring signature all the time, like me. Clovermoss (talk) 15:12, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
- There you go, Clovermoss. I like to think it frustrates vandals. Unfortunately it also confuses some constructive users. 2601:188:180:B8E0:0:0:0:8AC6 (talk) 15:29, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
- Unfortunately. I've have had a few interactions with you before, but I think it's been awhile. Anyways, I'm still strongly supportive of IP editing. Have you heard about the whole IP masking thing the Wikimedia Foundation is planning? It might impact you. There's a thread about it here [5], but there's many more. The gist is that the actual IP addresses won't be viewable by regular editors, but you can still edit anonymously? There's so much scattered discussion everywhere that it's hard to figure out what's actually going on, though. Clovermoss (talk) 15:43, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

Drmies or Ohnoitsjamie (I have to call on someone else from time to time, you know), I'd appreciate some help, especially since I'm on the verge of edit warring with a COI and getting nowhere. The last edits added sources that, as far as I can tell, are rather meaningless insofar as supporting the content. Said content is promotional. This is a holiday weekend, so I don't expect a prompt response. But I'm also happy to go to ANI in the next day or two. Thanks and cheers, 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 00:40, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

- Thank you. Sounds nice. I think we're going with lamb patties, which sounds a bit cruel, as well as tasty. This evening I spent twenty minutes on the phone with a NY Times reporter, re: the passing of an old friend. More eyes requested here, Melcous, Drmies. After starting to weed through the well-intentioned mess, I'm inclined to think this should be reverted back to the February version. Alternate suggestions welcome, should you conclude any of the recent content be saved. Cheers, 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 15:44, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
Okay, I'd appreciate some assistance from Melcous, Ohnoitsjamie or Drmies. Per discussion at the article talk page, a new WP:SPA added a voluminous family tree, as well as many family members to the article whose notability has not been established. Your thoughts welcome. - Mrs. Smith accidentally bought four pounds of cherries instead of two. I think that goes well with venison, no? But there's season for hunting deer, right--so that's more regulated than killing humans. Odd! I'd love to see a black bear. I'd love to have a cocktail with you in the first place. Be well, my friend. Drmies (talk) 00:37, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- That would be my pleasure. The cocktails thing, not so much the bear business, especially during a walk here. A few weeks back Ms. 99 and I were putting away gin and tonic. When the gin ran out we went to vodka. Now that's gone and we're at something else. Rum, I think. Really anything goes with tonic, once you throw it all in a tall glass with lots of ice. But tonight it's Yankees vs. Pirates with an apple ale. You do what you can. You be well, too. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 01:25, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Well, here's another fine mess. Having for the moment settled down the controversy, it only now has become apparent that much of this is unsourced history, perhaps posted by band members or fans. If either Melcous or Drmies have a half hour and a beer at hand....if not, have a very good weekend. Cheers, 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 21:00, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Small stuff, but to insist on the previous version and a better quality image would be edit warring. More eyes, please, Drmies and Ohnoitsjamie. Cheers, 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 17:39, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- Seems resolved for now. Ray Bradley (artist) looks to be more difficult, and may wind up at the BLP noticeboard or some such. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 19:56, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

- I could use your help, on Lyme Academy of Fine Arts--you know I got there by way of the recently deceased mentor and teacher. My condolences too, of course. Drmies (talk) 20:14, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
- Good save. Thank you. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 01:39, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

No sources, no response to warnings
[edit]Drmies or ToBeFree, was I wrong to issue a level three warning to this account [6]? Not that it's slowed them down in the least. My copy of the guidelines says we can't post content without sources, without edit summaries, and just continue plowing forward. My experience is that those who do it with such persistence know exactly what they're doing and have done it before. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 01:58, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4, as the user had been warned about exactly this issue before (by GorgeCustersSabre above your message), level three does seem quite adequate; thanks for informing them. And as your message was ignored (or, looking at the "mobile edit" tags, simply not seen due to issues with the mobile frontend), a block for now also seems to be necessary. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 02:27, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- ToBeFree, much appreciated. As my question suggests, I expect them to return soon with a new name. My personal favorite was the Philadelphia vandal, with whom Drmies was well acquainted. Awful edits, but an endlessly reincarnated soul. Cheers, 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3AA4 (talk) 02:34, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, ah, hence also "account" and not "person" or "user". I overlooked that. Subtle. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 02:35, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

This may get buried under sexier reports at ANI
[edit]So, Drmies, ToBeFree, Ohnoitsjamie, I'm asking you to have a look [7]. Someone who's been editing across the platform for years, and has ignored multiple warnings re: original research. It's a very impressive trail, and one doesn't know quite where to start the reversion process. Good weekend and thanks, 2601:19E:4180:6D50:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 15:50, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi 2601:19E:4180:6D50:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63, I have replied at ANI now; Cullen328 has, hm, stressed your invitation. Courtesy ping Hobbitschuster, but please don't reply here; keeping the discussion at a central place (WP:ANI) is preferable.
- (Post-preview addition: They're now also blocked. See ANI.) ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:59, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, ToBeFree. I'll comment there if the report hasn't been closed yet. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 18:50, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
