Removal of all images of Bond characters
[edit]I thought you might be interested to know about the removal of ALL of the images in List of James Bond henchmen in Die Another Day. There has been an argument that "there is no need to have images in the main film articles as we have the character images on the respective lists". If this is the case and given that the deleter of the images on die another intends to do the full whack pretty soon we will be left with no images whatsover of the James Bond film franchise. Is this what you want? The Bald One White cat 19:29, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

- I hate that film. David Spalding (☎ ✉ ✍)
I have removed that image from the article List of spacecraft from the Space Odyssey series. I felt that two images of the EVA pod were outside the bounds of the NFCC. You will probably get an automated message about that image being orphaned. I didn't intend to orphan it in order to have it automatically deleted, so if you feel it can fit in another article or in the same article, please revert my change and we'll talk about it. Protonk (talk) 02:08, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- I concur, the small image of the Discovery that illustrates a pod being deployed is sufficient for the article. ,:) -- David Spalding (☎ ✉ ✍) 14:59, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Echelon Studios new article
[edit]Dear Davidspalding
I would like to invite you to check the new article I wrote about Echelon Studios. As I can see you are a very experienced editor and I would like you to check my article and tell me what do you think about it and what should it need to avoid it deletion. You can found it on my user page under the name of 'Echelon Studios Draft'. Thank you very much. I will appreciate your help.
- Eric-1555 (talk) 18:21, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- Are you Eric Louzil? Wikipedia has clear guidelines about drafting articles about things which you are personally involved with or have founded. I've actually gone to bat for and against people doing this in the past. The gist of the policies IIRC is that you aren't objective enough to determine if your page's subject is notable if you're professionally or personally involved with the subject company. I see that you've already discovered this on two occasions, having this same article deleted for policy violation, in fact as recently as last week. -- It's time to buy a vowel. You can't create "an article" about yourself or your firm for the purposes of self-promotion. Since you've only recently joined, and have made no contributions other than inserting Echelon into Wikipedia, I'd recommend you make the contributions you initially did, adding the "distributed by Echelon" into existing articles (not new articles about your products), and under External links on those same articles, just put a Wikilink to Echelon Studios's web site. This is pretty much [edit] allowable and sufficient to assert your firm's existence in the relevant articles (on films you distribute). Creating a "home page" article in Wikipedia about your firm is crossing the line. [end edit]
- Bottom line ... If your company is notable, someone else will draft an article about it. Otherwise, use the Web to promote your firm. Making a positive contribution to Wikipedia comes with the responsibility to contribute within the boundaries of the site policies. -- David Spalding (☎ ✉ ✍) 18:43, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:TheWickerMan handofglory1.JPG)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:TheWickerMan handofglory1.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:14, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of File:Bodhran player.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Bodhran player.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:File:Bodhran player.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale. If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Orphaned non-free media (File:007LALDposter.jpg)[edit]Thanks for uploading File:007LALDposter.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject). If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --DAJF (talk) 04:59, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

About Yakuza film
[edit]You mentioned in the Talk that you have Shrader's "novelization." I'm going to draw on this film for a novel I am writing. I was a bit unhappy with what the reviewers said about the film. I feel that they didn't really understand or care about the "honor" thinking of the Japanese, and then dismissed the film as "exploitation", whereas I think it was explaining something subtle. It makes me think that I will get the same (mistaken) reaction to my novel, in the unlikely event that anybody ever reads it. People are too quick to claim exploitation, when it is just a matter of cross-cultural sympathy. I was wondering whether Shrader did a better job of it in his original script, and whatever he might have done in a 'novelization.' Is that something that you could share with me?
