Notability of Kristina Rostad
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Kristina Rostad, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Kristina Rostad seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Kristina Rostad, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Betty C. Hearnes
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Betty C. Hearnes, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}}
to the top of Betty C. Hearnes. Ref (chew)(do) 20:36, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
In response to the "proposed deletion" of the article you created on Betty C. Hearnes, I have re-established the page as a redirect to the article on her husband. --TommyBoy (talk) 22:08, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Lily Collins
[edit]Hi. You created this article with the Edit Summary "Internet sources -- appears reliable". But the article doesn't cite any sources. Do you think you could add them to the article? I tried looking on imdb for Collins and the show Slime Across America, and couldn't find either. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 07:11, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

The article Brian Rooney (Michigan politician) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails WP:POLITICIAN. (Just because he's from a notable family of people doesn't mean he's notable too, see WP:NOTINHERITED.)
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. elektrikSHOOS 11:25, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Durindaljb! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 387 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Speedy deletion nomination of Jack Calfee
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jack Calfee requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Cind.amuse 07:37, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
The article Pat Henry (comedian) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

[edit]Hello, I'm Scjessey. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Chris Matthews seemed less than neutral to me, so I removed it for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Scjessey (talk) 14:15, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Chris Matthews. [edit]Thank you for your edit to the disambiguation page Golan (disambiguation). However, please note that disambiguation pages are not articles; rather, they are meant to help readers find a specific article quickly and easily. From the disambiguation dos and don'ts, you should:
- Be familiar with the guidelines and style
- Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
- Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
- Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry
- Only add a "red link" if used in an article, and include the "blue link" to that article
- Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) — keep the full title of the article visible
- Do not insert external links or references

Regarding a series a links to the following website, I am being told that...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:RS
1. the website findagrave.com is not a website that I use as a data source even though such gravestones typically have birth and death dates and other information which is very difficult to obtain by another source. I can somewhat understand this regarding additional material which might be linked on such websites. But what could be more accurate for determining birth and death dates than a gravestone?
2. that obituaries are also not allowed.
Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources states that, "Wikipedia articles should be based mainly on reliable secondary sources, i.e., a document or recording that relates or discusses information originally presented elsewhere. ... Tertiary sources such as compendia, encyclopedias, introductory textbooks, obituaries, and other summarizing sources are helpful for overviews or summaries, and in evaluating due weight, but should not be used in place of secondary sources for detailed discussion."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_source >> states that, "Other examples in which a source can be both primary and secondary include an obituary..."
Is an obituary not a secondary proper source?
I am confused. I am not allowed to use obituary websites or gravestone photo websites to prove a birth or death date? How else can this be accomplished?
What is the proper procedure?
How about attaching the phase such as "possible unreliable datasource" to such obituary or gravestone photo website links instead of completing deleting such information?
Any advice would be most welcome.
Durindaljb (talk) 01:41, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
- Much here depends on context. Not all obituaries are created equal. A New York Times obituary would usually be considered a reliable secondary source about the person. If it's just the relatives publishing an elegy on the deceased, it would be both a primary source (because it's by his immediate family) and of rather dubious reliability. Primary sources can be used in some contexts, and I wouldn't see an issue with using an obituary or a gravestone photo as a source for the death date - though I wouldn't trust findagrave for much beyond that, not even necessarily for the place of death. However, I don't really see the point in the "possible unreliable datasource" caveat - if we do not trust the source to be reliable in the context in which it is used, we'd better remove both the source and the information it's cited for. Otherwise we'd be engaging in guesswork and spreading rumors. Huon (talk) 02:29, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

I am working on the following article and some similar articles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayor_of_Dexter,_Missouri
I keep getting complaints.
Does the formatting now look correct?
I've never had complaints regarding this sort of thing before in the last several years.
-- see my previous help question also.
I've moved the findagrave sourcing to external links as I found the formatting from another wiki page that I just happened to find.
Do I really need to move the obituaries too? I used to add a lot of stuff to the "Deaths in 2014" or previous year pages. If obituaries are illegal now, that's going to make things really difficult.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_source states that "examples in which a source can be both primary and secondary include an obituary."
If users wish to put the articles that I create in a more proper format, I would appreciate learning how to do this. However, deleting my sourcing seems a bit rude when obituaries and photos of gravestones are typically some of the best sources for birth and death dates.
Help requested.
"Durindaljb (talk) 17:29, 3 November 2014 (UTC)"
- As I said, context is important. There's a difference between using an obituary as source for the date of death, or using it as a source for claims of fame, such as a nickname bestowed by General Patton. The latter is rather promotional and should be supported with a reliable third-party source; otherwise we're reproducing the family legends instead of historical facts.
- The formatting looks ok to me, though I'd get rid of the non-standard colors. Huon (talk) 22:51, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Mike Gallagher (marine)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Mike Gallagher (marine) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. References and mayors
[edit]I notice on a lot of the articles you create you use the "< / references >" tag to list references. I would suggest instead using the "reflist" tag or, even better, the "reflist|2" tag because the format is cleaner and more efficient (for example, it takes up less space to use a "reflist|2" tag on an article with 20 references than it does with a "references" tag).
I am also moving many of your Missouri mayor articles from "Mayor of (exampletown), Missouri" to "List of mayors of (exampletown), Missouri" to become more consistent with the other similar articles. Since the articles consist entirely of a list and are not explicitly describing the mayoral position and the duties associated with said position, it seems to be a more appropriate title.

Hello, Durindaljb. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Henry VIII Hotel (Missouri), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Disambiguation link notification for May 5
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Jack Buck Award, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Pedro Guerrero (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

John R. Cassady moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, John R. Cassady, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Speedy deletion nomination of John F. King
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on John F. King requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from oci.ga.gov/PublicInformation/Bio.aspx. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, John Eaton Tourtellotte, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Eaton Tourtellotte.

The article Salvatori Prize for American Citizenship has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Not notable. The General Notability guideline says: "A topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". OK. This article has two sources. One is the Heritage Foundation (not independent of the subject), the other is ricochet.com, which is user-generated, and which is also about one recipient, not about the award per se - definitely not significant coverage. In other words, neither source shows notability. A google search does not unearth anything better, either.
