File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Groundwater fronts.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 03:22, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

All the images I uploaded today are original creations of me and my friend. I don't know what else to do- I can surely use my own creations.... Fogden (talk) 03:43, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help request

[edit]

I'm sorry, but I don't know what I am doing. This is the first time I've had copyright challenged on images that I uploaded to Wikipedia. Will someone please tell me what to do? It is not at all obvious how I should proceed to rectify your concerns about copyright for what are some really simple images. All these images that have been called into question were created by me an a former student. How do I prove that??????? I would appreciate help rather than being threatened with punishment because I am not an expert on use of the Wikipedia system.Fogden (talk) 21:06, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you created the images there should be no problem, but you need to add to the file description page an appropriate file copyright tag saying under what license you release it. See Help:File page and Wikipedia:File copyright tags. JohnCD (talk) 21:26, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

JohnCD thank you for your guidance. I think I figured it out. I assigned

to the images. I hope that works. Fogden (talk) 22:11, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good, that should be OK. The reason why the copyright rules are so complicated is that WP is anxious to make sure that its content is properly licensed and free, and copyright law itself is complicated. JohnCD (talk) 08:53, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Finite water-content vadose zone flow method, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages PDE and ODE. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:42, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Forrest M Holly Jr.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
