Main Page appearance: history of Sheffield
This is a note to let the main editors of history of Sheffield know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 24, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at present, please ask Bencherlite (talk·contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 24, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:
The history of Sheffield, a city in South Yorkshire, England, can be traced back to the founding of a settlement beside the River Sheaf in the second half of the 1st millennium AD, although the area has seen human occupation since at least the last ice age. Following the Norman conquest of England, Sheffield developed into a small town. By the 14th century it was noted for the production of knives, and by 1600 it had become the main centre of cutlery production in England. In the 1740s the crucible steel process was improved by Sheffield resident Benjamin Huntsman, allowing a much better production quality. At about the same time, the silver plating process which produced Sheffield Plate was discovered, and the associated industries caused Sheffield to grow rapidly. It remained a major industrial city throughout the first half of the 20th century, but the downturn in world trade following the 1973 oil crisis and international rationalisation in steel production led to the closure of many of the steelworks from the early 1970s onward. Since the late 1980s, urban and economic regeneration schemes (including the Sheffield Winter Garden, pictured) have transformed the city. (Full article...)
You (and your talk-page stalkers) may also be interested to hear that there have been some changes at the TFA requests page recently. Nominators no longer need to calculate how many "points" an article has, the instructions have been simplified, and there's a new nomination system using templates based on those used for DYK suggestions. Please consider nominating another article, or commenting on an existing nomination, and leaving some feedback on your experience. Thank you. UcuchaBot (talk) 00:01, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Edgewater Beach Hotel photos --certain it is 1923?
Hello JeremyA. We are having trouble with conflicting dates at Edgewater Beach Hotel Chicago IL article. Your photo (now used for the infobox for the hotel) has 1923 written in the title, but various sources say the 19 story tower (taller part of the hotel) was built in 1922. The taller tower does not show in that photo, at least to my blind eyes, creating the confusion. Any insight you can share, in the article, or on the talk page for the article? --Prairieplant (talk) 23:56, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments
This month sees the UK participating in the Wiki Loves Monuments competition for the second time. The aim is to capture images of monuments (mainly Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings) and to upload them to Commons. Many monuments have no images available for them or need better ones without clutter in view. The lists of the monuments were produced on a county basis last year. A full list of the English lists for use in the competition are available at listed buildings in England. If you are interested in taking part then take a look at the UK home page for further details. You do not have to take images in Yorkshire but it would be helpful if those in the area would help out to try and get at least one image for every monument in our area. May be the annual Heritage Open Days will provide opportunities for photos of places not usually open to the public.

list of twelve-step groups
Howdy JeremyA. A experienced editor has proposed to change the standard for inclusion of List of twelve-step groups from being a list of wikipedia articles, to being a list of 12 step groups (without the necessity of having an article attached to the entry). The discussion is currently on the talk page. I am contacting you because you have participated in the maintenance of that article. If you have no opinion, please feel free to disregard this notice. Cheers! Coffeepusher (talk) 05:08, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

@Jaycey: Hi. The article I deleted was created by a vandal account that has since been indefinitely blocked. I deleted it on the day it was created. At the time of deletion the entire content of the article was (and only ever had been): 'She magazine is proper sick article that was produced to be a ting to all the warriors.' If you are able to create a real article on this subject that meets the General notability guideline you are welcome to do so.—Jeremy (talk) 18:23, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
@JeremyA: Oh I see - I do apologise, I had no idea. (Although I have noticed that SHE has had many imitators, ever since it ceased publication. Anything else calling itself SHE is NOT the real deal!) I am busy at the moment, but I will set some time aside and create a proper entry for SHE - it deserves it. Thank you for explaining. Jaycey (talk) 11:08, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
