The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Hi, because of lack of time, i was not able to complete the article yesterday, thank you very much for taking the time to explain me how to use the Harv style and for completing (and correcting my mistakes) my edits at Medo-Babylonian conquest of the Assyrian Empire. Cheers. ---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 21:36, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikaviani: Thanks! Glad I could help. M.Bitton (talk) 23:47, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A cup of coffee for you!

[edit]
I see that you check recent edits for appropriateness. I clicked through to see a set of the reversions that you had made for rejected submissions, and I agreed with all of what I saw you had done. It seemed apparent to me through the decisions you made and the comments that you left that you were giving human attention to the decisions you made rather than over-relying on tools and automation. Thanks for that, and thanks especially for the notes you leave. You are doing good review. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:39, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
For answering a lot of edit requests and helping to keep the backlog at bay. For a while, I was taking care of that on my own, and it feels nice to see someone else get to it first every now and then! Actualcpscm (talk) 17:22, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Actualcpscm: thank you very much for the encouragement and for tackling those time consuming edit requests that tend to be pushed to the back of the queue. Keep up the great work! Best, M.Bitton (talk) 22:39, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, on a related note, I would love to do some more map work once I have more time in late summer. Do you have any good guides on how to get started on maps for Wikipedia? :) KluskaSlaska (talk) 16:21, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@KluskaSlaska: Thank you so much for your feedback. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any good guides that would help you. Best, M.Bitton (talk) 14:02, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Barbary slave trade

Due to unrelated drama I won't bore you with, I found myself looking at the history of this article, and uuh, thanks. A whole lot of POV-pushing was going on. When I have fewer tabs open I will try to remember to come back and give you a barnstar.

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

NPOV/N Q

[edit]

Hello! About this edit on the Neutral Point of View Noticeboard, you removed an editor's post, and your edit summary was "Per WP:ARBECR". I see that's a link to Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Procedures#Extended confirmed restriction. Could you please explain this further? Why does that arbitration rule or procedure mean that the other editor's post should be removed from the NPOV/N? Mudwater (Talk) 18:48, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I assumed, wrongly as it transpires, that its relation to WP:PIA would be obvious to everyone. M.Bitton (talk) 14:37, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And what is the relation? Mudwater (Talk) 18:15, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mudwater: the relation to PIA is pretty clear, that's why they were blocked for ECR violation. M.Bitton (talk) 18:17, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you spell it out for me please? Pretend that I'm a well-meaning but slightly dimwitted editor. Actually, I don't consider myself dimwitted, but I don't spend a lot of time looking at discussions like those, about the protocols for discussing and editing highly contentious topics. Mudwater (Talk) 18:30, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mudwater: Do you really want me to explain how this edit (about Zionism, Palestine, Israel, Hamas) is related to WP:PIA? M.Bitton (talk) 18:36, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, my question -- keeping in mind that I am not very familiar with these discussions -- is why do WP:ARBECR and WP:PIA mean that those posts should be removed from WP:NPOV/N? But, never mind. I can just post this question on the NPOV/N itself. Thanks anyway though, and please carry on as before. Mudwater (Talk) 19:30, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mudwater: they are removed, not just from WP:NPOV, because non-extended-confirmed editors are restricted to using the "Talk:" namespace only to make non-disruptive edit requests related to articles within the topic area. M.Bitton (talk) 19:41, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. I was not aware of that, though now that I look again at WP:ARBECR, it does say that. And the editors who posted on the NPOV/N about the restricted topic area were not extended confirmed. I knew there had to be a logical explanation. Thanks. Mudwater (Talk) 20:28, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Leben (milk product)

[edit]

Hi

Do you have an opinion? For example it is not the same: [1], [2] Panam2014 (talk) 19:33, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really understand the question. What are you trying to establish? M.Bitton (talk) 23:45, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To split the article, or transfer Levantine laban to yogurt's article. It is not the same thingh. Panam2014 (talk) 00:45, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think a split is necessary. A better alternative (in my view) would be to describe what the word "Leben" and similar names stand for in various parts of the Arab world. For instance: in the Maghreb, "Lben" (without an "e") refers to the traditional buttermilk. The middle eastern "Lebneh" is a form of strained yogurt. M.Bitton (talk) 13:41, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But the page is not a desambiguation page and Wikipedia is not a dictionnary. Since only the name is the same. Panam2014 (talk) 15:23, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I checked again and Lebneh links to Strained yogurt, so technically, you can remove its mention from the "Leben" article. M.Bitton (talk) 16:14, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
