Your help desk question

[edit]

I'm guessing the Tommy Boy categories will have to be manually renamed, but I don't know how that works. You put each category on the articles that belong in the categories, and once the old categories don't have any articles in them, then I guess we'll find out.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:07, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to move Tommy Boy Records to Tommy Boy Music--shouldn't this be the name of the page since https://www.tommyboy.com/history calls it Tommy Boy Music LLC at the bottom? However Tommy Boy Music (and Tommy Boy Entertainment) both exist as redirect pages so it's very tricky to rename/move all of the three. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. "Lover" (Taylor Swift song)

[edit]

A reliably sourced description of a live performance of the song isn't relevant to a section called "Live performances"? Please have a go-through of some featured/good quality articles to familiarise yourself with the know-hows of this. Your removal of things which you (very unreasonably) deem "irrelevant" and "weird to include" is getting to be out of hand.—NØ 15:42, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@MaranoFan: "Getting out of hand?" It was twice. How is the fact that she played the song on a pink guitar against a moon backdrop encyclopedic? Also, another editor agreed with me to remove the picture of Joe Alwyn, andn how many other taylor swift song articles include pictures of the subject, and describe in detail the way they were first performed live? That sounds like the start of coatracking, which would be "getting out of hand". Also, I was at the VMAs, the moons werent even there--they were a TV effect, just like the rainbows during "you need to calm down".Melodies1917 (talk) 15:50, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That fact is encyclopaedic because it is an objective description of the performance which was covered by a secondary reliable source, and provides insight to the reader as well. That’s why you were told to refer some quality articles, because information about performances has historically always been covered on them. I don't have time to provide specific examples, please find those on your own. Thanks. And regarding your removal of the Joe Alwyn pic, the fact remains that your edit summary about it being "weird to include" was not good enough. Someone else doing the same two days later with a proper explanation does not rectify your lacking explanation.—NØ 16:54, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

March 2022

[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to 2008 Universal Studios fire, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. Doc StrangeMailboxLogbook 19:08, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Doc Strange: sorry about that! i was aware of original research but i see now the issue with WP:SYNTH but its a little bit confusing. just so i am clear, for example, would an article talking about The Roots vinyl reiusses like in this edit [[1]] that clearly states something like "the masters were previously reported to have been destroyed in the Universal fire", or something along those lines, be suitable? thanks! Melodies1917 (talk) 16:13, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Doc Strange: hi, any other thoughts here? appreciate any further insight! thanks. Melodies1917 (talk) 16:38, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure, but that reference doesn't mention the fire in any way. Rosen's NYT articles does not identify many, if any, specific recordings that were considered to have been destroyed, including these Roots albums. Earlier in the 2008 Universal Studios fire article, there's the passage:

Determining which recordings had been destroyed, or how much of an artist's discography had been affected, was impossible, he wrote. For example, Rosen said it was difficult to confirm whether the Neil Young recordings listed in the documents were the original master tapes of the albums he recorded for Geffen Records in the 1980s, or session outtakes from those records.

The current Wiki article as it stands does not state that these specific Roots albums were reported to have been destroyed. I think mentioning the Roots albums without a source that outright mentions the fire, or quotes the band members about the fire and discovery of these specific recordings as not being affected counts as WP:SYNTH. Notice

The article Geoff Warburton has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Reliable coverage limited to a bunch of articles discussing his Big Machine signing, all of which restate each other so there's no point in adding any of it. That means the article will not be expanding beyond its current state any time soon, and as is this is a blatant WP:NOTDATABASE vio.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
