New requests
[edit]Please add new requests here.
- WikiProject Peru - One time run of all the articles in the categories listed here. Bot can add {{PeruProjectBanner}} to all talk pages. I don't know if it can automatically add |class=stub to articles in stub categories. If so, that would be fine. Otherwise, {{PeruProjectBanner}} is good enough. I know that it's a lot of categories, but a lot of them only have one or two articles in them, and some have none. Also note that many of the articles -- over 2000 of them -- have already been tagged. The bot should not tag articles in unlisted sub-categories. Thanks. --Descendall (talk) 21:02, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- WikiProject Wine - Category list - new articles, and perhaps a one-off run of the todo list to see if it's worth our while - we're generally pretty 'clean' though. FlagSteward (talk) 14:01, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- No, you never did do a run for Wine AFAICT. But what talk there was seemed positive - just do it, it's a pretty active Project so should be able to pick up on stuff. And the main guy on our parent Food and drink Project seemed enthusiastic if you fancy a play there. Italy - I'd say absence of objections is good enough - but I'm in the middle of a massive assessment drive now that I'm back from holiday, it'd be nice to get it down to zero before you mess things up ;-/ - leave it a week or two? By the same token, you'll have to wait if you want a fancy cat list, but I'd have thought certainly for Wine and probably FAD you should be OK with the current hierarchy. TIA. FlagSteward (talk) 15:38, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I've now done a wine category list if that's acceptable - I ended up removing a couple of "cocktail" cats but that was all. I could have sworn I'd mentioned it to the rest of the project, but in any case I've formally introduced you now. I really can't see there being any problem, but I'll wait a week for any objections before requesting that it runs "permanently". Would it be possible for you to do a trial run of new articles and todo list, based on WP:WINECATS just to show people what it's all about? TIA FlagSteward (talk) 13:03, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

- WikiProject Italy - Category list - new articles and one-off todo list, likewise. Some more mini-requests on the Talk page. FlagSteward (talk) 14:01, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- WikiProject Mississippi - Category list - Automatically add banner -- ALLSTAR ECHO 17:00, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- err, I guess the first thing would be to figure out how to get all of the MS cats onto a Category list -- ALLSTAR ECHO 21:03, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Is this the same thing? Category:WikiProject Mississippi -- ALLSTAR ECHO 22:58, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry - hadn't watchlisted this page - my bad!
- You'll want to develop a list of categories manually. The easiest way is to start with <categorytree>Category name</categorytree> - in this case, probably Category:Mississippi could go in the middle there. That will give you a drop-down tree to work with. Simply copy/paste as you go to develop the list that SatyrBot will work with. Hope that helps! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 03:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, since Category:Mississippi already exists, what else should I do? -- ALLSTAR ECHO 03:06, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Is this the same thing? Category:WikiProject Mississippi -- ALLSTAR ECHO 22:58, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, that category already exists. But I can't let the bot run through that category and all sub-categories, since it's not a tree. For instance, I'd start with "Mississippi", go through Category:History of Mississippi to Category:Hurricane Katrina and all of a sudden I'm labeling New Orleans Saints with the Mississippi WikiProject banner :)
- To forestall that, I don't let the bot run through sub-categories. You have to develop a list of categories that are full categories for the bot to work from. Try the "categorytree" code above on a sandbox page and work with what it gives you.
- Hope that helps - and let me know if it's still not clear. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 03:22, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
eh, I'm one of those that works on visuals so maybe direct me somewhere to "see" what you're talking about? I also just created User:Allstarecho/Sandbox with the cat tree. That correct? -- ALLSTAR ECHO 03:28, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Let me try again - this is one of those situations where I know exactly what I mean - trying to get the whole thing across can be difficult :)
- I can't just start the bot on a category and have it run. The bot would run through the following, adding the WikiProject banner to every article. Follow this along in another window to see what I'm talking about - each of the below is a sub-category of the one before it. So it would go through:
- Category:Mississippi -> Category:History of Mississippi -> Category:Hurricane Katrina
- Then notice the articles that are in that last category - things like New Orleans Saints are in there, which are definitely not part of WikiProject Mississippi. So just letting the bot run through sub-categories causes too many problems.
- Instead, I tell the bot "Here is a list of categories. Every article in these categories should be a part of the WikiProject."
- But how to develop that list? The easiest way is to start with a "top" category, then work our way through all it's subcategories, making note of all the cats that are wholly within the WikiProject. To do that, the "categorytree" code I mentioned above helps immensely. Take a look at Wikipedia:Sandbox/Mississippi - that's what the categorytree code produces. Now you can click on each [+] mark to expand the tree, and copy/paste all the categories you find that are wholly within the WikiProject. That's the list the bot will work from, and it will look something like one of the ones above - say Wikipedia:WikiProject Alabama/Categories.
- Are there any parts of that where I'm not making sense? As I said - it's totally clear to me, but I may not be explaining it fully. Sorry about that! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 03:41, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, the New Orleans Saints should be tagged WP Mississippi as their training camp is held at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and they have a year round business office in Jackson as well since they consider Mississippi as part of their "home" turf (when they were actually talking about leaving New Orleans 2 years ago, they said they would build a new stadium in Long Beach, Mississippi. I know, I know.. off topic. lol The Wikipedia:Sandbox/Mississippi you created is showing the same as the User:Allstarecho/Sandbox I created. Now, I do understand what you are saying about tagging articles not in the Project but you lose me at copy/paste all the categories you find that are wholly within the WikiProject. Copy/paste them where? Do you mean as in manually create the actual page Wikipedia:WikiProject Mississippi/Categories and then manually paste in relevant cats?? -- ALLSTAR ECHO 04:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Really? Seems a bit tangential to WP:Miss, but that's not my business :) You are correct - copy (or type) all the category names to the new page you create: Wikipedia:WikiProject Mississippi/Categories. If you want to be picky, each line in the new page should look like:
- * [[:Category:Something in Mississippi]]
- But don't worry about that. Even if it's:
- Category:Something in Mississippi
- or
- Something in Mississippi
- I can reformat it so the bot can read it. Just so long as I can tell what the categories are. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 06:49, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- WikiProject Anime and manga - Category list - A one time test run of all the articles in the categories listed. The bot should create a report in our project space listing which articles need to be reviewed. --Farix (Talk) 15:47, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- WikiProject Football/USA and Canada task force - This WikiProject is currently tagging articles within its scope. All articles in Category:Soccer in the United States (and all of its subcategories) need to be tagged with {{Football|USA=yes}}. Some of the work has already been done manually, but I am interested in increasing the Project's efficiency, and I thought SatyrBot might be the perfect solution. I would be very grateful if you could accommodate this request, but if it is not possible for whatever reason, I completely understand. Thank you! TFCforever (talk) 17:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Request for Vietnam project
[edit]Here is the list Wikipedia:WikiProject Vietnam/Categories. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:34, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Blnguyen!
- Four questions:
- Are all the categories listed totally within the project's scope?
- Do you want a simple one-off run? Or a weekly review?
- I assume the project template is {{WPVN}}, correct?
- Are there any parameters to automatically add to the project banner? Like "|class=" or "needs-photo="? Sometimes projects like to have the empty parameters in there.
- Oh - and has the WikiProject discussed this project?
- Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:51, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hi again, to answer the questions
- Yes.
- A one-off run, and perhaps another one in a month. The project is not particularly fast growing, so I don't think a weekly run is a good use of bot resources.
- Yes, {{WPVN}}
- There isn't a need to add "class=?" and so forth in my opinion.
- I did bring it up at WT:VIET. It only got one response from Badagnani (talk · contribs) but he and I were the only ones doing the tagging mostly. The others don't seem too fussed about these sorts of things, from my looking that their article talk edits. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:02, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- Ah. Hm. Okay - I'll have to find the bot's script that does that. I haven't done a project-based one for months, and I've re-written parts of the bot since then, so let me dust it off, check some bugs, and see what I can do :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 07:22, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Request for WikiProject Green Bay Packers
[edit]I would very much like to have the bot run through once a month and place the articles on a subpage for the Packers Project. The category is Category:Green Bay Packers and the tree is as follows:
Feel free to prod me if you have any questions, thanks a lot! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk ♦ contribs) 19:57, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Gonzo_fan2007! A couple questions for you:
- Has this been discussed with the WikiProject?
- No, I am the creator/coordinator and as this doesnt seem pretty controversial, but I will leave a note on the Projects talk page, but I dont see any opposition coming forth.
- I can run through that cat and the one-level down cats, but I won't let the bot run willy-nilly through subcats of subcats of subcats. If you need the bot to go deeper, I'll need a list of categories, something like the "Category Lists" that are indicated in the table above.
- Those are the only subcats needed.
- Do you have a particular place in mind for the report to go?
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Green Bay Packers/No banner would be fine.
- Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 21:26, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- Also, User:SQLBot did the initial run, I originally posted on the Bot request board, than found your bot but then SQL did the initial run. So an initial run right now isnt needed, but if you wanted to wait til April 1 for the first run, and then each subsequent run on the 1st of each month, that would be great. But whatever is easier for you. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk ♦ contribs) 21:42, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- For your reference « Gonzo fan2007 (talk ♦ contribs) 21:53, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- Great! Poke me on the 1st and I'll run that for you, no problem. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 00:15, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a lot SatyrTN, I will prod you on the 1st! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk ♦ contribs) 03:11, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Request for WikiProject Peru
[edit]WikiProject Peru has used your bot once before. A year has elapsed and we'd like to run it again. We have generated a list of categories that could be tagged at User:Descendall/Peru. All of the articles in those categories could be tagged with {{PeruProjectBanner}}. Stubs could be tagged with {{PeruProjectBanner|class=stub}}. The categories themselves could be tagged with {{PeruProjectBanner|class=cat}}. Articles that have names starting with the words "List of" could probably all be tagged with {{PeruProjectBanner|class=list}}. I've done my best to ensure that only categories in which every article could reasonably be tagged as Peru-related was included. The list looks long but I'd expect the vast majority of articles to already be tagged and the list probably includes a lot of categories with subcategories but not articles. If you'd like, you can see the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Peru --Descendall (talk) 19:17, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
