Hello
[edit]Hey, I just learned about your WikiProject! Let me know if you need any help with Mormon women topics--I work in the BYU library and have access to a lot of good sources for Mormon women's pages. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 19:15, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Rachel Helps (BYU). We'd love your help! Thanks for reaching out. You can join us for our editing and planning meetings, or we can chat here. I admit that I don't have expertise in the history of the Church of the Latter Day Saints. Do you have suggestions on which pages need work? We have a big red link list, and would be happy to add names to it. Also, sometimes we curate smaller lists of "to-do" tasks with more specialized topics so people can work on what they are familiar with. Happy to work with you to create a list of pages related to Morman women that need work. - PMCH2 (talk) 00:32, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, sure, I have an old to-do list from an editing event we did for Mormon women. For the movement that includes all the churches that came out of Joseph Smith's ideas, we call that the Latter Day Saint movement. The largest of those churches, the "LDS Church," is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cultural topics associated with the Latter Day Saint Movement use the term "Mormon" freely, like Mormon folklore. It's kind of confusing, sorry about that! 19:24, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
Thousands of articles added to WP Women in Religion
[edit]In connection with work on merging the two wikiprojects (now completed), Ser Amantio di Nicolao has recently added thousands of articles to the project. As can be seen under Project statistics on the main page, as of 1 October we now have 3,734 articles, 2,758 of which have yet to be assessed. So we have progressed well beyond the original goal of 1000 Women in Religion.--Ipigott (talk) 09:00, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Ipigott and @Ser Amantio di Nicolao, thanks so much for doing this for the project! Yah one of the reasons we changed our name was for that very reason. We reached a major milestone and we didn't know it! Almost 4,000 articles is impressive for such a young project, but there's so much work left to be done. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 16:04, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- I see Ser Amantio di Nicolao included a further large batch on 7 October, bringing the new total to 4,926.--Ipigott (talk) 09:25, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

Scope of project
[edit]Hello - I had a question about the scope of this project. This sentence from the main page, "Wikimedia content pertaining to the lives of cis-gender and trans-gender women who are notable as scholars, activists and practitioners in the world's religious, spiritual and wisdom traditions," seems to imply that the scope is the biographies of real-world women. However, I see that the WikiProject tag has been added to articles for a few female mythological figures. Is that within scope, or am I correct to remove those? ♠PMC♠ (talk) 19:35, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Could you please list the mythological figures you're talking about? Then I believe that we could answer your question. Thanks, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 16:25, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why it would make a difference, but Dali (goddess) is the one on my watchlist. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 18:37, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- It looks like articles about goddesses have been added to this wikiproject. I can't tell you the reasoning behind it, but I suspect it's because at least one editor believes that goddesses and other objects of worship should be included into our perview. Personally, I don't think there should be a problem about it because the goddess movement is an important part of feminist theology and indigenous worship and faith practices. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 23:11, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- As I am all for inclusivity, I was pleased to see that among the thousands of articles recently added by Ser Amantio di Nicolao (see above) were goddesses, biblical figures and women associated with other religious texts. While reviewing the quality of all the additions, I came across many more in categories such as these and decided to add the Women in Religion tag to their talk pages. It goes without saying that I have also assessed and/or added many hundreds of living or historic women "notable as scholars, activists and practitioners in the world's religious, spiritual and wisdom traditions". As a result, the project now covers some 4,000 actual biographies. While this contrasts with the 200 or so articles which have been created or improved specifically in connection with this project, it seems to me important to validate the efforts of those who created relevant biographies before this project started, frequently including them in wikiprojects such as Women's History, Women Writers, Religion or Mythology. I was also pleased to see that a significant number had reached high standards of quality, many having been successfully reviewed for GA or FA. Perhaps in collaboration with WikiProject Women in Green, some of those rated B could be listed as candidates for GA.--Ipigott (talk) 11:04, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments
[edit]Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom
parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Aymatth2 (talk) 22:37, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Shakers in America: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
[edit]My choir, the Capitol Hill Chorale, has a particular interest in various strands of American folk music; to that end, our last concert of this season will be featuring works by, and inspired by, the Shakers, especially Shaker women. 2024 marks the 250th anniversary of the arrival of Shakers to the United States, and our concert will be dedicated especially to the memory of Mother Ann Lee, their founder.
We'll be hosting an edit-a-thon on the subject of Shaker women on Saturday, May 11. It's just gone live today, and I don't yet have a link to anything other than the Eventbrite registration, which is here. I have a list of thirty or forty notable Shaker women that I've developed over the years, and we'll be looking to create articles on a number of them, plus updating a number of other articles.
I am crossposting this with Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red; it would be nice if some folks would be able to join virtually. Or live, even, if you're in the DC area.--Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:11, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Automatic WikiProject template documentation
[edit]{{WikiProject Women in Religion}} uses automatic WikiProject template documentation, and so doesn't/can't benefit from {{WikiProject Women/See also}}, if someone would like to change that. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 12:01, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

- @Figureskatingfan: I'm not sure either, but luckily there are plenty of examples (my guess would be to remove "
|DOC=auto
", add {{Documentation}} at the bottom, then edit that as you normally would). {{WP Women in Religion}} can be compared against templates which use custom documentation such as {{WP Women}}, {{WP Women artists}}, {{WP Women scientists}}, {{WP Women writers}}, as examples for how to write that custom documentation. The only other templates listed in {{WikiProject Women/See also}} that still use|DOC=auto
are {{WP Women in Business}} & {{WP Women in hip hop music}}, so are unusable as examples. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 20:11, 30 June 2024 (UTC)- @Figureskatingfan: there are a few "tech" members/pagestalkers at Women in Red who might be able to assist with this if you run into difficulty. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:55, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
