My (23-year-old) son and I have been reading The Series of Unfortunate Events out loud on the Metro train for the past year on Thursdays on our way to and from the seaside (with different voices for each character), much to the delight and annoyance of the other passengers, and are currently on page 125 of The Grim Grotto. A few times we have been approached by people wanting to know which book we're reading, and there are often a few bemused expressions. People have even moved closer to our seats as they became empty so they could hear the story better. I love the "For Beatrice" inscriptions and deciphering what Sunny says. How utterly tragic, and yet somehow I find myself laughing between weeping into my pillow and bemoaning the fate of the Baudelaires.
