Janny Wurts is the author of War of Light and Shadow series, and To Ride Hell's Chasm. Her eighteen published titles include a trilogy in audio, a short story collection, as well as the internationally best selling Empire trilogy, co authored with Raymond E. Feist, with works translated into fifteen languages worldwide. Her latest title in the Wars of Light and Shadow series, Destiny's Conflict, culminates more than thirty years of carefully evolved ideas. The cover images on the books, both in the US and abroad, are her own paintings, depicting her vision of characters and setting.

Nothing in between, except for his barely sketched out bits from Magician. He contacted me to collaborate based on my novel, Sorcerer's Legacy, a standalone with a female lead. After badgering me for two years, I agreed to co-write - we sat down and made an outline for what became Daughter and Servant, intending it to be one volume. We wrote chapter 1 face to face, then, since he lives in CA and I am on the east coast, we selected 'sections' of the story to draft. Then we exchanged those draft files and overwrote them, again and again, until the style was seamless. When the first book got too chonky, we also realized: Mara could not become that powerful without crossing the Assembly of Magicians. At that point, we contacted the publisher with a proposal to expand the original contract into a trilogy - and here we are. It was a 50/50 effort in every sense, with our collaborative effort to expand the world of Kelewan and Tsurani culture built off of what Ray had placed in Magician. Quite a bit of flavor was added by my travel to Korea. Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm, it's a pleasure to answer your question.(less)

Because readers are as individual as stories, and I am ferocious about never writing the same story twice. In general terms, later in my career, the more complex and deep the concept.

If I had to select one title that 'straddles' the divide, I'd say To Ride Hell's Chasm - for several reasons. It is a standalone story with a plot that spans 5 and a half days, it has the widest range of characters each one with a critical contribution to the outcome. The pages are jam packed with concept, action, colorful reverses, and also because this was the single book I've done that seemed to write itself, from start to finish, like a house on fire. I've a warm spot for this on, too, because it was my father's favorite book of mine, and he was definitely my most critical customer!(less)

Tammy OK, Empire 2 was epic. You rock Janny... I absolutely have to read 3 right now. However, Hell's Chasm is staring at me, (from the content page of my eReader). I can't wait to start it and i'm thrilled you are the sole author. The Empire series with Feist has turned out to be my all-time favorite Fantasy series but I have a feeling I'm really gonna like your style all on it's own!
thanks Janny!

Hi JJ - nice of you to stop by with a comment, you founded a very nice, friendly group. Fantastic you've seen my books in Australia - when I last had the opportunity to visit, I encountered a wonderful country and a warm reception from readers, not to mention fabulous beer! I'd love to return one day.

I hope you weren't from that area that had the awful fires, this year. I cannot imagine all that acreage, burned. We visited the Blue Mountains - so beautiful.
