Naruto must decipher the cryptic last words of his beloved mentor. What did Jiraiya find out about the leader of the Akatsuki that was so important he had to hide it in code? And can Naruto stand a fighting chance against those who managed to take down one of the Three Great Shinobi?
Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.
Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.
This volume was a nice change of pace. We get a renewal of goals for Naruto, a bit of comic relief to offset his Master's death, and the beginning of a great training montage. Do I like training montages? Why yes, yes I do. I don't find them tedious or pointless at all. I am, after all, also a student of Dragonball.
More importantly, for this volume, I really loved the big reveal scenes for Sasuke's postmortem. Ready to level up, Sasuke? Oh yeah, and everything you ever thought you knew is wrong! Muahahaha. Evil, evil Kishimoto.
First half does a extremely goodjob of Naruto handling the fallout of the last volume.
With death comes loss, and it's always the person who is left behind who has to hold up the weight of it all. Naruto has grown in a lot of ways while still being a idiot at times. This volume above all else shows how much he's matured. Especially dealing with the fallout of the last volume. Then we flip over to Sasuke and his crew taking on "Killer B" which by the way is such a dumb name. This rapper like ninja warrior won't be so easy to put down.
Besides the semi-racist make the one black guy in the series a rapper thing going on it was a pretty fun volume. Killer B's moveset is entertaining and watching him handle Sasuke and Co is actually great. I'd say though the best part is the first half with Naruto dealing with the loss and moving forward. Touching and sad, with multiple characters in grief.
Hum, hum, mmm. It's time for some new training, Naruto, and boy, what a cool training that is! I do love me some good training montage :D
There's also a time for grief, and these scenes were subtly done. The extent of Jiraya's impact on Naruto can only be properly assessed in these moments and it's fabulous to see how much Naruto had learned from his sensei.
All in all, this volume would have gotten even a higher score if not for Killer Bee and Sasuke's new terrible team. Goodness, these characters are so completely forgettable. Also, does every new female in this manga have to behave like a drooling halfwit? Now the object of desire is inexplicably Shikamaru... Sigh.
There are slow parts in this volume but it’s jam packed with information about chakra natures and toad sage jutsu.
We already know from the last volume that Jiraiya dies. Naruto then finds out that Jiraiya is dead after being summoned by Tsunade.
Ugh Tsunade… she lost another person she loved deeply.
Iruka loves Naruto it’s so sweet. I also love Shikamaru’s and Naruto’s friendship. They balance each other out.
The old sage toad invites Naruto to train in sage jutsu on Mount Myoboku, like Jiraiya had before him.
Itachi shoved a bird inside of Naruto’s throat
We go back to the night of the Uchiha Massacre, through Sasuke’s memories. Itachi was crying.
Of course, Madara has his own plans with Sasuke, and is using Sasuke to his advantage. They got Itachi out of the way. Itachi left a couple of traps behind so that would injure him or kill him, so that he stays away from Sasuke
Taka, formerly Hebi, become Akatsuki members. Although, they will be posing as loyal members while, Sasuke states, that they will be using the Akatsuki for their goal, not the other way around.
Taka sets out to find and capture the 8-tails jinchuriki.
Sasuke reveals his new eye.
The 8-tails is a formidable opponent. He wields 8 blades and he’s physically very strong. But ugh his rapping makes me want to scratch my face off. He’s so much MORE annoying than I remembered. He almost never talks normally. He’s always singing even about everything. It reminds me of Jess from New Girl on Fox.
Naruto’s is trying to bring nature energy into his jutsu. So he must sit still and learn how to acquire that.
Too much toad sage jutsu, and you’re turned into a damn toad for life.
I still wonder if hitting Naruto with that stick actually beats sage jutsu away… I feel like it probably is just about breaking concentration. Regardless I like the old toad
Taka put up a decent fight with the 8-tails.
Sasuke got his ass beat and we see more of Karin’s power and why she’s important besides being a sensory-type shinobi.
But, come on… she’s just… Karin seriously grosses me out. Girl stop, you’re embarrassing yourself to new heights. I almost feel bad for Sasuke because of how much she grossly throws herself at him and talks to him in sexually alluring voices and mannerisms. It’s disgusting.
I love the cover page of chapter 410. It shows in a line, who was whose sensei. 3rd Hokage -> Jiraiya -> Minato -> Kakashi -> Naruto
What the fuck is up with chapter 411’s cover page? Naruto and Sasuke with lockets of each other??
The ending:
The 8-tails jinchuriki had retreated but Karin found his chakra and pointed out his location. Sasuke is on his way to him, and the 8-tails jinchuriki is screaming that his biju is about to come out.
Pain heads out to The Land of Fire to retrieve the 9-tails! I’m soooo ready for the next couple of volumes I fucking love that part of the series!!
Okay this volume continues the awesomeness established in the last volume, we pick back up with Sasuke as he learns more about his brother and those flashbacks of his loving brother and wants to avenge him and names his group HAWK and kinda teams up with Akatsuki to take revenge on the leaf village, meanwhile Naruto receives news about his sensei being killed and its so emotional seeing how he handles it and even makes you tear up a bit but he has to also help decipher the code that Jiraiya-sensei in his last moments sent to the village and they do and it has something to do with his book. Meanwhile Naruto has to head to the Frog Mountain to learn SENJUTSU aka Hermit Type Techniques and its amazing to see it, he is failing but the greatest things to learn take the harshest training and Pa Frog is teaching him well, Meanwhile Sasuke, Suigestu, Juugo and Karin are after the Hachibi Jinchurriki and fighting him and the fight is deadly and epic and soo interesting, two parallel stories going on and this series firing on all cylinders now! Next: Pein vs KONOHA!

After a few intense volumes we kind of slow down a bit in this one to really introduce the all new Sage Jutsu and the Mount Myoboku Toads who will teach Naruto a way to possibly take down Pain. The other story taking place is Sasuke and the newly formed Taka take on thier first Akatsuki mission to track and defeat the Eight Tails Jinchuriki. Naruto needs to hurry because Pain and Konan have set out for Konoha!!!
Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people.
Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world.
Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child.
On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time.
Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers.
Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption.
Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes.
The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes.
The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on.
On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story.
Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc...
Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.
The book Naruto Volume 44 is about Sasuke a rogue ninja who left the hidden leaf. Sasuke wants to kill his brother because Itachi killed his own clan requested by the Third Hokage. After awhile Sasuke was training to get better so he could find his brother. Once he was done training for a couple of years he went off to find him. Sasuke had finally found him and he was getting ready to fight him. Will Sasuke succeed? Read the Book and find out.
I really liked this book because the story line about it a kid named Naruto who lost his parents and he's trying everything to become Hokage when he's older and he's always pushing himself over his limit no matter what happens. I recommend people who watches anime's and reads about them.
Here's the thing about Kishimoto: he may focus way too much on Sasuke and have no sense of pacing to speak of, but when he gets an emotional moment right, he gets it really right. Case in point: Naruto's reaction to learning Jiraiya is dead. Iruka's reappearance was an especially nice touch.

Taking forward his master's techniques, Naruto starts learning how to perform Senjutsu. Heartbroken about Jiraiya's death, he's hell bent on taking revenge on Pain. What I feel is that it felt a little rushed.
E chi c’è insieme a lui dietro? . Voto: 5/5.”
Naruto finds out and it's heartbreaking, but the hero has to lose their teacher. How else can they grow? Shikamaru helps Naruto along with his grief, showing him what they're fighting for. Although, 16 is a bit young to be already thinking of passing on the baton. It's a great scene for a friendship that lasts well into their adulthood. Shikamaru is already showing he can guide Naruto and be there for him to rely on.
The toads are back. I love them. Here to teach Naruto sage jutsu. The entire power system, even with the addition of nature energy, is quite simple but it somehow allows for great liberties to be taken with character's power. Especially Sasuke later on. The strength of nature energy makes Jugo's issues a lot more understandable. His family collects it too much naturally, which gives them the curse which is too much sage energy and deforms them. Mind and body. Interesting.
I love Taka vs Eight mainly because I love watching Sasuke being completely embarrassed by Bee. The multiple swords thing seems impractical but whatever it takes to humiliate Sasuke. The kid’s too prideful. Having him show up Sasuke was a great way to introduce Bee, because it made me instantly like him.
Karin's power has always baffled me. Why? There are so many other ways to do that.
This volume has a lot of great chapter art. 405 with the negative colour Naruto. His look of complete despondency gearing you up to see our hero so sad he can't even eat. Giving us the Iruka and Naruto scene with that damn ice lolly. Tsunade breaks down against the walls of her office. Right after we had to see Itachi cry. 406 of Shikamaru's strong back because Naruto will lean on him more and more. 410 with the sensei's and students and finally, 411. Naruto and Sasuke in those necklaces. Representing what? Too much to each observer I think.
- Aftermath of the battle, Sasuke refused to take Itachi's eyes. - Akatsuki remaining members are Pain, Tobi, Kisame and Zetsu. - So, they join forces with Taka to catch the remaining Tailed-Beast, Hachibi and Kyuubi. - Taka will catch Hachibi and Akatsuki will catch Kyuubi. - Finally, Naruto hears the news about Jiraiya's death from the toad sage, Fukasaku. - Naruto is depressed with the news and Iruka comes to calm him down. - Tsunade orders Shikamaru to decode Jiraiya's message along with the decode team. - Shikamaru trying to react Tsunade, Kakashi and Naruto to gather information about the message. - Shikamaru comforting Naruto and said they were the same as they lost their master. So, they were entrusted with the will to guide the next generation, to become the next master. - Naruto helps to decode the message. - Fukasaku offers to train Naruto sage arts at Myobokuzan Mountain. - Pain making his move to invade Konoha and capture Kyuubi. - At the same time, Sasuke and Taka come to Kumogakure to capture Eight-Tailed Beast Jinchuuriki, Killer Bee. - Battle at Unraikyo, Suigetsu and Juugo easily defeated by Killer Bee. - Sasuke vs Killer Bee. Killer Bee gets the upperhand and Sasuke nearly lose the battle. - Suigetsu, Juugo and Karin help Sasuke to fight Killer Bee.
Itachi sepertinya memahami Sasuke sekali.

The reaction to Jiraiya's death is brutal. Tsunade having to take responsibility and coordinate actions while being the Hokage and unable to show weakness in accepting her grief. Naruto having to cope with loss for the first time. Shikamaru stepping into a new role as a real leader while still reeling from Asuma's death. It's so incredibly humanizing for Naruto and is the one thing that pushes him further towards becoming Hokage than ever before.
Kishimoto once said in an interview that Jiraiya's death is the one thing that makes Naruto able to understand Sasuke- they were both alone but now is the first time Naruto experiences loss. It changes him, and matures him. Stakes are high now! Characters we know and love can actually die! And as Konoha figures out Jiraiya's message and prepares to get revenge on Pain, Naruto undergoes some training that plays off of some of the new ideas from the previous volumes.
We're also given a new direction for Sasuke, and are introduced to the eigth Jinchuriki host! Big things for the series right now.
