From USA Today bestselling author Emily McIntire comes a dark and delicious fractured fairy tale reimagining of Peter Pan.

He wants revenge, but he wants her more…

James has always had one agenda: destroy his enemy, Peter Michaels. When Peter’s twenty-year-old daughter Wendy shows up in James’s bar, he sees his way in. Seduce the girl and use her for his revenge. It’s the perfect plan, until things in James’s organization begin to crumble. Suddenly, he has to find the traitor in his midst, and his plan for revenge gets murkier as James starts to see Wendy as more than just a pawn in his game.

Wendy has been cloistered away most of her life by her wealthy cold father, but a spontaneous night out with friends turns into an intense and addictive love affair with the dark and brooding James. As much as she knows James is dangerous, Wendy can’t seem to shake her desire for him. But as their relationship grows more heated and she learns more about the world he moves in, she finds herself unsure if she’s falling for the man known as James or the monster known as Hook.

Hooked is a dark contemporary romance and the first complete standalone in the Never After Series: A collection of fractured fairy tales where the villains get the happy ever after. It is not a literal retelling and not fantasy. Hooked features mature themes and content that may not be suitable for all audiences. Reader discretion is advised. this book would be better if all the characters brutally died in shark infested waters…

now hear me out…yes this book was bad but the smut made up for it. reading the first half made me think this book would get a better rating but then reading that this low-life, brit but acts like an american, afraid of fucking clocks, dog shit looking ass excuse of a man EXISTS?!?! i’m sorry y’all but all his trauma dumping made me laugh my ass off i can’t lie 😂

“he might be the boss but they fear me” YOU THOUGHT YOU ATE THAT?!?!!! 😭

like how are you considered the most feared man on the streets yet you couldn’t even get your facts straight?!? kidnapping the wrong woman?!? YOU DUMB FUCK JAMES!! BRUHHH he should’ve died by the end of this book. this motherfucker was annoying as shit. and i can’t even blame Wendy because she’s a victim of his crimes and the last thing im gonna do is victim blame. if i were her, i’d put rat poisoning in his food. this is why i can’t trust men that have names that begins with a J 🤬

and to bring back my point from earlier: the smut. oooh child i gotta admit that was good. 😩 but sadly the only good thing about this book. if i see James it’s on sight!!! i’m fucking swinging on that motherfucker!!! stay back 🤺🤺🤺🤺

y’all i’ve been a wh*re for captain hook since once upon a time, and let’s just say after this book.. i continue to be a wh*re for captain hook. the idea of having a series of reimagined fractured fairy tails dedicated to villains getting their happy endings? yes please. and starting out with my favorite villain of all time? YES PLEASE. Hook was everything I’ve ever wanted (I did picture him as hook from OUAT the entire book btw) I loved the little bits of the original peter pan story thrown in there, and the spice was *chefs kiss*, the only reason this wasn’t a 5 star was because I didn’t love Wendy all that much until her badass moment at the end and the conflict resolution felt a bit rushed & wrapped up too fast. but I said it before and i’ll say it again, im a wh*re for captain hook.

First half was great and interesting and addicting and dark.

The second half of the story got cheesy, and eyeroll-y and stupid. And the stupidity would not end. And I’m too tired and pissed to list the stupid.

This is my first booktok dark romance yet somehow ended up quite vanilla? Give me less spineless MC and telling-not-showing “dark” love interests, and more actual drama and mess! Not to worry, I still have enough material for a video.

I am just so... unbelievably underwhelmed.

When people told me I'd roast the fck out of this book, I figured it would at least be humorous, or maybe give me tons of things to make fun of, but no... It didn't give me a single thing. I am almost sad I wasted an entire day on this.

The premise: I think it's pretty great. A dark peter-pan retelling, Hook is actually the love interest, Wendy is Peter's son and Peter is his worst enemy. It had absolutely everything to succeed and yet...

The Smut: oh god, maybe it's me? but "good girl" was muttered over 20 times. The good girl to page ratio is absurd. He even called a guy he was "torturing" GOOD BOY.

The Darkness (?) where the fuck was it??? I mean if you consider this a DARK romance because Hook says: "A gruesome image of me thrusting inside her on top of her dad's remains, my cum dripping between her thigs and mixing with the blood beneath us" - I get it, it's a weird sentence to put into a book, so MAKE THE CHARACTER MATCH THE ENERGY. But no, Hook would have some weird and uncomfortable intrusive thoughts from time to time but he never acted on any of them.

I am actually soooo exhaaaaaausted of characters being painted as "WOW SO DARK MUCH RAGE MUCH DARKNESS HE'S THE VILLAIN" and they just kiss the FMC's ass during the entire book , run a "business" like it's high school and talk like fucking Dracula (he was supposed to be British but I guess she got lost there and mixed them up)

Everything feels so LOW STAKE.

"What are you to me?"

"Your worst nightmare"

AND THEN HE PROCEEDED TO CUDDLE HER FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT, LMAO.

People love the idea of a villain, they love the idea of a "DaRk" read... but no one is actually brave enough to execute it. They just get lost trying to make the villain redeemable and they just turn into the most shallow and inconsistent character.

Maybe it's me... I understand why this is a favorite to so many people.

However, you promised me a Captain Hook and you gave me a Captain "Don't get my cashmere suit dirty with your 2 dollar stains" (he actually says this).

It's just humiliating, it feels like child's play. It feels like watching a cartoon villain trying to be evil but unable to because it's actually streaming on Disney + and they have to keep it PG.

It was so painfully forced, and it makes me so sad because Hook is a great character. The premise is genius, she gave him a dark past (being molested as a child) - even though this trauma is completely forgotten every time there was a sex scene.

She added the clock, which is a great symbolism... I just think there WAS SO MUCH to be explored that was completely ignored for the sake of smut.

Don't even get me started on Wendy. A bag of flour has more personality. This just feels like a copy of every single "dark" book that has ever been popular on tiktok. It's recycling and it infuriates me because the IDEA IS AMAZING.

So yeah, you got a fantastic tale like Peter Pan and you gave Wendy a choker and started calling her pet. Then you removed any drop of personality the real character had, and made Hook say "such a dirty mouth for such a pretty face" every time she cursed. Because, of course, god forbid a woman has enough personality to FUCKING CURSE.

"The kiss is anything but sweet, it was poison and death."

"You think I am crazy? I will show you fucking crazy." And then he proceeds to... HAVE SEX WITH HER.

Wow, you really did show her huh? You made her cum with vanilla sex as a punishment. You are such a crazy fella, YOU ARE WILD.

He does that twice. LMAO, The second time is when she is trying to run away from him and he goes: I'LL TEACH YOU A LESSON and his lesson is to give her an orgasm and move on with his day.

And instead of being hot, it was just underwhelming. Just because you TELL ME a character is scary, doesn't mean shit if you don't SHOW ME.

So yeah, just another fantastic tale being wasted on a badly written mafia romance with a stupid FMC and an underwhelming male character who thinks "running strip clubs, having a lot of money and threatening people, while simultaneously having a dark past" is the same as being a dark character.

Spoiler alert: It's not.

Also, why the fuck did Wendy ask to be choked as a VIRGIN, why was she even a virgin in the first place? I am so freaking tired of the virgin trope, it just makes the entire book sound like it was actually written by a man XD (but this is just my personal taste)

2.75 stars! Ehhh I didn't love the male love interest. I know it's a dark romance and he's supposed to be a villain but I still wanted to find him more likeable😭. This book did have a fun, twisted, dark world, and I liked the references to the original Peter Pan!

i'm sure i've read books with similar premises before and enjoyed them but god damn what is sexy about this.

jacking ur wiener to the thought of making some girl fatherless is fucking weird. ejac'ing into someone because the thought of her "swelling with ur child to make her dad mad" is equally nuts.

i think we're supposed to be like "oh wow he's conflicted cause he wants to ruin her to ruin her dad but awwww he also likes using her as his personal twinkie that's so sweet" but i literally do not get it.

i'm an old hag maybe just ignore me. but i want relationship development. i want nice conversation. light choking is also fine! this on the other hand. not for me.

Like... I won't even pretend I read this for anything but the dark romance.
Because damn, was it of the best -and darkest- kind.
Consider me properly wined and dined and enemies-to-lovers'd by this book. And who cares that much about the plot when you've got a dual pov, a playlist, villains who know how to villain, tragic backstories, and Mr Hot&Toxic Main Character who says darling in a British accent approximately 60 times.
Not that the plot was bad (I was fairly and pleasantly entertained, to be honest), but it was...a little absurd.
I absolutely loved the Peter Pan references and how everyone was actually ruthless, after all.
I will definitely give the other books in the series a chance when I'm in the mood.

Quickly adding Emily McIntire to my list of authors who can write a mean chemistry between two characters and the best hate smut I've ever read.

DNF 50%. This was bad in that specific way that just pisses you off. The characters were so FAKE and CORNY and UNREALISTIC.

This honest to God reminded me of the writing style in the My Immortal fanfiction by Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way, except that was satire and this isn’t.

bitch wtf. i was inspired to read this by @the.sequel.nobody.wanted on tiktok. they cut off a chunk of their hair every time the characters in this book do or say something stupid. after their first video, which only covered the first fifty pages, i decided to comprise a list of the most wack ass problematic gross shit this novel contains:

- the setting is quite literally FLORIDA
- “monster cock” x2
- “subduing a female is all about control” dear god i fucking hate men
- hook fantasizes about having sex with wendy OVER her father’s dead body
- wendy complains about working in a coffee shop and living in a mansion all alone.
- hook keeps thinking about murdering wendy’s dad while he’s on a date with her
- hook literally lets underage girls drink at his bar
- hook gets an erection an insane amount of times that it’s literally unbelievable
- hook lives on a boat
- “i want to know more about you” proceeds to have really gross sex and just not tell her anything about himself
- they do not have any conversations of substance; it’s all about choking and fucking. and that’s all they do!
- wendy has no discernible personality. she does nothing, she wants nothing, and she is content to do absolutely nothing.
- with no evidence or reasonable suspicion, hook kidnaps wendy, tortures her, calls her a bitch, and is extremely fucking demeaning
- after forcing her to go with him to a gala, she sees her dad. doesn’t ask for help despite being kidnapped, no, she argues and bitches. she literally tells her dad that hook “popped her cherry.” she thinks to herself that hook is the only person who treats her in a valid way.
- “my father was a good dude” dude???
- after kidnapping and abuse, she tells him she loves him after he literally cums on her face. what?
- a slur against romani people is used
- her brother jon is actually her half brother. and jon is ALSO hook’s half brother. why is this necessary?
- wendy literally kills her own father
- i’m really confused because wendy said her last name was barrie… but then hook’s last name is ALSO barrie? huh? ARE THEY RELATED OR NOT?

JUST TO REITERATE — they have never had more than two full conversations. and then end up married. with a kid. and wendy’s heavily pregnant again.

how can you read this and not think — wow this ABUSE. this is the most anti-feminist piece of literature ever. this book is poorly written torture porn. there are no redeeming qualities about this novel.

and fuck wendy that bitch is SO BORING! she has the personality of a paper plate. go girl! give us nothing!

This is a true villain love story. It is not your classic healthy relationship love story. I had to take a step back and appreciate the story for what it was: A truly psychotic bad guy and a good girl who loves him despite all his evil. I absolutely loved the Peter Pan references. No, this isn’t a retelling or a fantasy. It’s a dark romance, where the main character is a villain and what a beautiful villain he is.

Quotes:
“Darling, if I’m the dark, then you’re the stars.”

“I'll sacrifice my soul a thousand times over in order to stay with his.”

“Just remember that whenever things feel bleak, all situations are temporary. It’s not your circumstance that determines your worth, it’s how you rise from the ashes after everything burns.”

Let's be frank. You know this is a dark contemporary Peterpan retelling and you still choose to read this why? Because you're in for the hot romance and so am I.

It's so ironic how this book literally got me HOOKED from the start (or I'm just romance deprived, there's no in between). Emily's writing drew me in and I love the new breath of life in all the characters. I am obsessed with Peterpan and so am I enthralled with how the author attributing the original Peterpan traits into her own but at the same time, giving us a total different personation. All these small details got me swooning and it what makes reading this amazing.

What's more is because this is a villain story and not your typical Peter and Wendy tale. The romance between Hook and Wendy is really in one's element with the innocent and bad boy narrative; which probably too popularized and mind-numbing at one point but Hooked is really up to my alley. If we were to see it on another point of view, this book might be your average mafia book (but that's not what I'm basing my judgement on), plus this one is still packed with drama and farsighted.

However, the three stars would probably have to do with the conflict on the second half of the book which was rather rushed and anti-climatic. Especially when Hooked couldn't put piece together of who the real traitor is despite being described as the smart and cunning one. Everything just comes in towards the end and finished hastily; some of the actions were very uncharacter of them due to the different build up.

I haven't read much Peterpan retellings to be coming to this conclusion but nevertheless, I'd say this is probably the best one I've come to read so far. Despite the rating, it couldn't be denied that Hooked is by far the most inventive and delectable modern-day retellings with Emily McIntire's naturally expressive and poignantly evocative writing style—just with a darker, savoury edge.

DNF @ 37%. This was sadly not my cup of tea. I´ve been wanting to read this for such a long time so dnf´ing this is so disappointing to me. Idk what this was or what it was supposed to be but their stupidity made me want to gouge my fucking eyes out.

I´m expecting a refund for the abuse i´ve put my poor eyes through. This was a torture I wouldn't even wish on my worst enemy. This book was tasteless to me. If you want a book with a stupid fmc x a direspectful mmc then this is the one for you.

This is a dark romance inspired by Peter Pan and I was so excited to read this. I've heard great things and I love dark romances. Unfortunately, it really felt like this was trying too hard to be a dark romance. It had all of the right "things" but they felt very surface level and I couldn't really fall in love with the romance. Hook is a crime boss and he hates Peter, who hurt people he loved. To get back at Peter, he decides to go after Wendy, Peter's daughter, and have a relationship with her. Wendy was such a flat character that had literally zero depth to her. She was rich, had a job at a coffee shop, and cared about her brother. That's it. She lets all of the men in her life throw her around and never demands to be treated fairly. Ugh. Then, Hook come in the picture and walks all over her and accuses her of some awful things, realizes his mistake, and is immediately forgiven. That was so annoying. From the beginning this was pretty insta-love and then the ending happened so fast and gave no real satisfaction. It's just sad this one didn't work out because it had all fo the elements to be an amazing dark romance. However, when put together as a story, everything just fell flat.

3.5 Darling Stars ⭐️
Did you know the word darling appears 61 times.
This little Fishy was hooked...to lean completely into the cliche. This was unique, exciting and deliciously dark and I was enamoured by it. But in the words of my Daddy Darling, "if you didn’t land it, you didn’t catch it". And as much as I was initially hooked, I broke free in the final struggle to reel me in!

I have never read a story with a premise like this, so I was instantly sold and from the polarising reviews and hype of these books, I needed to see what all the fuss was about. This is a fractured fairytale and while at first, I didn’t understand what that means... it makes so much sense now that I’ve read the book. Much to my initial chagrin there is no fantasy in this, but I put my big girl panties on and decided to just enjoy the contemporary romance for what it is.

This is not a Peter Pan retelling, so if that is what you’re looking for, you’re not gonna find it in these pages. It is mostly just taking the names and characters from the fairytale and mish-mashing them together into a plot. Yes, some quotes or nuances from the story are mixed in the batter to make this work, but that’s about where the similarities end between the original Peter Pan story and this.

The story is dark and while I normally prefix books like these to say, “make sure you read the trigger warning before you start”. There is actually a request at the start to go into this blind because it adds to the enjoyment of the story. Just note that it is not the smut that is awfully dark. If anything the smut is borderline vanilla but still on the slightly kinky side. You would only have a problem with it if you are horridly offended by "breath play" and being told what a good girl you are and believe me if any British man wanted to call me Darling and say I was a "good girl", I would be begging him to use me too!

No, this is dark in terms of...imagine a Mafia Boss who really likes to use knives and has no qualms about killing people, so if you’re okay with that and don’t mind mixing in some drugs, murder and kidnapping...this is just for you.

I did enjoy this, REALLY...but I have two main problems. First, I am petty and I cannot take a book seriously when a man, "reaching his peak" is described as "I coat her womb with my seed" or "rubbing his seed into my skin". It’s an instant turn-off and to me reads like it’s a woman writing about a man who doesn’t actually know what a man thinks about when he’s having sex… I’ve read a lot of smut in my life and the minute the word seed or milk (which is also used in the kicky scenes) appear...I instantly deduct a star.

The second is the book was about 100 pages too short. As a result, the love felt very Insta-lovie. It never really had a chance to develop. The pacing in the plot just felt a little off, and as a result, the ending felt super rushed compared to the almost slow buildup from the start. I believe that if an extra hundred pages were added we could’ve seen a more fleshed-out ending. We could also have delved a little bit deeper into Wendy’s character because at the moment she was a little bit a wishy-washy-one-dimensional-insufferable-baby at times... which you know can be frustrating. There was also not a lot of communication and conversation that happened between Wendy and James. Quite a lot of what they’re thinking and feeling happens in their internal monologue. The minute they start talking to each other he is basically already kissing her neck and seducing her, and things go naughty very quickly from there…

I don’t mind this book. I don’t mind that Hook doesn’t get his redemption arc because that’s not why I read this. I read it for some escapism and to see the hype. I can see why some people absolutely adore this and why some people are absolutely appalled.

From my perspective, I would recommend it because whilst James might not have hooked me and successfully landed my catch, Emily McIntire sure has and I cannot wait to jump into the rest of the books in the series and I wouldn’t be doing that if this book wasn’t enjoyable

Wendy is the biggest delulu in the fictional world, and James needs both therapy and treatment for his dick, or I guess he'll be saying goodbye to his little Wendy and his darling Wendy soon.

The author really knows how to make a person with priapism look like he's obsessed with his girl and can't wait to fuck her everytime he thinks about her or sees her.

“i have tortured. i have killed. and i’ll do both again without ever regretting a thing. i enjoy them. but i regret with every fiber of my being, that for even one moment you suffered under my hands. you are, without a doubt, the only good i’ve ever known. so don’t lie to me, wendy darling. because my heart won’t survive it if you do.”

“you want to watch the world burn?” “let me guess, you’ll set it on fire?” “no, darling. i’ll hand you the match and stand at your back, watching you become queen of the ashes.”

so i bought this fully thinking this was a fantasy book. yeah was i wrong. it sounded so promising like hello a dark peter pan retelling ??? i know the girlys love this book but i unfortunately did not.

this was definitely something! some of the peter pan references i was like okay cool! others were just so cringe.. like “pixie dust” is literally cocaine in this dawg- were the plot twists good? the plot was there and this had lots of potential but you know what wasn’t there? literally everything else! the ending with them and their kids omg. that was cute. but i also have a soft spot for that and think every.time. an author ends a book with a couple happily married with kids im like awwww. so! but then i remember there was 0 relationship development. nada. NONE.

˗ˋˏ wendy ˎˊ˗

so yk when authors use a fmc’s innocence as basically her whole personality? yeah. to me, wendy just had the personality of a bland dry ass saltine cracker. she’s also just so naive and quite frankly, dumb asf. a virgin that somehow already knows she has a kink of being choked to near death? come again? bye- wendy, babe, let’s go seek some therapy. ill join u bc i need to seek therapy too after reading this book!

˗ˋˏ hook ˎˊ˗

starting off with the good parts! he fr cut out a man’s tongue for disrespecting her.. if he ain’t crazy like that we don’t want him! he bought her the whole ass coffee shop she used to work at because they wouldn’t hire her again. uhm major points for that one. that’s honestly all i can really think of that’s good regarding him.

now onto the bad.. first of all lemme get this out of the way, bro lives on a boat lmfao- his “dick hardened” daydreaming about ruining her and destroying her fathers life like? wtf- alright! the nickname “pet” is instantly a big fat absolutely not for me. nope nope nope. and wendy calls him “master” ?? when i read that i literally thought of like kung fu- BAHA. uses the term “pussy walls.” like you’re kidding me right? i deadass laughed out loud reading that. emily never do that again plz! he really kidnapped her… (the wrong woman lemme add) then puts a collar on her and says “every good bitch needs a pretty collar.” what did he sayyyyy? i mean he calls her “pet” so it’s fitting i guess? do i feel he somewhat redeemed himself in the end? i mean, i guess...

Yeah...No, I didn't like it too much tbh 🙁

Honestly it has been a quite strange reading for me because I was entertained by the book but I didn't feel any connection with the characters until the last 10-12 chapters (which is when I started to like the book). I could give it 3 stars but I feel like I didn't enjoy it enough for that.

The plot twists were very well done, but the spicy one seemed VERY repetitive and similar, which bored me a little.
