Dahl shows a high amount of creativity here, but it has a different note than the first book in this series, and I would say, a bit darker. Nonetheless, for a Roald Dahl fan, this book is a definite must for anyone's collection....more

He gives a bit of background information on his parents (including how Dad lost his arm) Dahl shares many amusing anecdotes about school life and how some of the teachers or older students were. This was a long time ago - no Internet, cell phones, TV, etc, so the education system was similar to ours in some ways but VERY different in others! It really is almost like a time warp, and Dahl explains/describes things in a way that make it clear for us. Really a wonderful childhood memoir! ...more

This is definitely a good book, and if you've seen and enjoyed the movie, be sure to check out the book. The movie does a great visualization of the book, but the book contains a few details the movie is lacking in, and it's always best to check out the book any movie came from! The witches are presented in an amusing way - this story does have a few scary bits and is not appropriate for young children, but it is definitely appropriate for school-age children (and adults, too!) ...more

There I read this a long time ago, but my memories are as fond as ever. Roald Dahl was a great children's book author, and this book is no exception. There are laugh-out-loud moments, and some passages are just too funny. This is about a couple who are called... you guessed it, the Twits. They're weird, nasty, and filthy, and it's a hoot to read about their misadventures. ...more

The movie is wonderful, but honestly, if you're going to watch a movie, might as well read the book that it was derived from, since books ARE usually better than their film counterparts.
There's plenty of comedic situations, and the illustrations also add to it even though I DO feel that the art could have been better. This is a nice classic of a kid with an extraordinary gift and flourishing despite her circumstances due to finding outlets for her curiosity. This would make a great gift for anyone who loves to read, especially a kid. ...more

Both movies were different from one another but good in their own way, but nothing beats reading the book, as it contains some truly fun and creative passages that didn't make it to either of the movies. Plus, this book is by Roald Dahl - an author you just can't go wrong with! Be sure to check out the sequel to this book as well, since it continues the story in a fun way. ...more
