*A short review for a short story*
Honeybear was just trying to be helpful when he dug up some old bones, which puts Kate on the hunt to find out who they belong to and how they got in the field.
Even though this wasn't a fresh murder, or anything to really do with murder, I still enjoyed the mystery of it.

Lucy is in the spotlight when Ben, a true crime podcaster, starts digging into the 5 year old murder of Savvy, Lucy’s best friend.
Is the plot new? Nah not really, but it gripped me from the get go and didn’t let up until we knew what the what and who the who was. Even though Lucy is accused of killing her best friend she is such a witty and fun character, which she obviously gets from her grandma because she was an absolute delight. Overall, enjoyable with a satisfying conclusion. I can see why it’s so popular.
Hubs in depth review: Enjoyed the multiple narrator voices. I like how she said hot as balls. Ending was good.
Narration notes: Awesome! Maybe one of the best audio’s I’ve listened to. I’m not sure I would have liked it as much if I had just read it.

Noelle (23) & Nash (27) Noelle is having second thoughts about marrying Steve, so with only 25 minutes before the ceremony she hightailed it outta there, vial flying and right in the back of Nash’s truck. With barely a second guess he drives her away and to the quaint town of Blitzen Bay.
I am not even a super big fan of Christmas, but I totally want to visit Blitzen Bay. What an adorable sounding small town. It does take place during Christmas week, but it’s not overly Christmasy. My only gripe is that I don’t love when Christmas sounding names are in my Christmas books, ie: Noelle & Holly.
Overall, this was super adorable. A bit of slow burn, but not really. You’ll just have to read it to see what I mean.

There has been another brutal murder in Painter’s Mill and Kate and her team are on the case. This time someone has been burned alive. Can’t get much more brutal than that. Was this a random attack on a snowy night? Or did Milan deserve it?
I wouldn’t expect anything but non stop action when Kate is involved and the action doesn’t let up. Kate seems to always get herself into dangerous situations and these were top tier in the danger department.
What I appreciate about Linda’s writing is that there isn’t any repetition. We get the information once and when it’s time to relay it to others she simply just tells us she filled them in or something to that effect. Way to save time and not bog us down.
Overall, another fabulous addition to the series.
Side note ~ I like the budding romance that seems to be developing within the team. I suppose since Kate and Tomassetti are finally married we need another couple to root for, and I’m all for these two.
I was lucky enough to have both the ebook and the audio. Both worked perfectly. Narration notes: She’s a bit robotic, but does a fine job. It's not the voice I picture in my head for Kate, but I’ve grown accustomed to it.
Series notes: I think you should read them all in order because they’re great, but I suppose it’s not absolutely necessary. Each book follows a different murder, but Kate’s life is progressing.

Lizzy and Owen are in a tough spot financially, so they've temporarily moved in with her mother, which she is adamantly against. She's already suspicious of her and living with her sounds like it's a nightmare with her sneaky and controlling ways. But mom is paying for the wedding, so she'll just have to deal with it for a few weeks.
It's not all about the wedding, though. There's still talk about sister, Shelley's, husband, Rafe, dying on their wedding day last year. Her father being in a care facility gives us another side plot. Lastly, Lizzy's old crush from school has started coming around to help move the story along.
Overall, a solid, fast paced read with some repetition. I totally called the big zinger, but there was a nice one at the end that I wasn't expecting and I think it'll take you by surprise, too.
Narration notes: Tamsin did a wonderful job.

Jade is the 2nd Mrs. Westmore, married to Wells. Sylvie is the 1st Mrs. Westmore who lives in the guest house with round the clock nursing care.
Quite peculiar to live on the same premises as your husbands 1st wife, and she's not allowed to interact with her or the nursing staff either. Quite peculiar indeed. Not overly surprising where the plot took us, but I quite enjoyed the journey to get to the exciting ending. This is my first experience with this author and I really liked it. I can't wait to read more of her work.

A short review for a short story.
A battered woman is being chased through the woods and ends up on Noah Fisher's doorstep.
Kate has her work cut out for her since this woman has no clue who she is or how she got to Painter's Mill. As always, she does a great job getting to the bottom of things, but not before getting a little roughed up herself. A great installment in the series.

A short review for a short story.
Noah and Ashley had a lovely time at her school dance, but on his way home he's struck by a car. Kate investigates the hit and run that might have more to do with someone not liking an Amish boy with an Englisher.
This one was full of action. I don't know how Kate's Explorer is still running at this point, or does she keep getting a new one? A tinsey bit predictable, but this is my favorite of the novellas.

A short review for a short story that follows 14 year old, Kate, and her best friend, Mattie. They're picking apples when a nearby barn goes up in a blaze.
Meh, I didn't much care for this one. There was a little bit of action to keep the story moving, but I'm more interested in current aged Kate, unless we're in a full length novel with flashbacks to her younger years. I will say it was nice to see how her brother Jacob was very protective of her, but that's really about it.

Kate & Tomasetti are off to a bed and breakfast for a weekend away. Tomasetti wants nothing more than to just relax, but when they learn there's a girl that disappeared from the area 22 years ago they're soon wrapped up in the mystery of it all.
Not typical for this series in that they were not working on an active brutal murder case, so I thought I'd be bored stiff, but I ended up liking it. I was pretty sure this was a solid 4 star read the whole time, but I was quite pleased with how the end played out so I bumped er up.

Ashlynn & Reid went to high school together, but meet again at their best friends's engagement party years later. She's not too thrilled to see him, but perhaps he can charm his way into her life again.
As you can read from the blurb there's some drama when she's accused of arson, which doesn't bode well for Reid as the newbie at the fire department. Does he handle it well? Initially yes, but then nope. Does he eventually redeem himself in a hilarious manner? Sure does.
Overall, I enjoyed this one. Reid's a pretty sweet guy. Ashlynn was fine, but I'm not feeling the added drama with her parents, which I have a feeling with continue to carry over into the rest of the series.
Series notes: This series follows siblings, so I suggest reading them in order so that you can familiarize yourself with the family and know who's who and what's what. If you want to go above and beyond read The Donovans: Laurel Bay series first since this series is a spin off from that one.
Narration notes: Carly does a great job, but it's not a shocker that I'd like a male narrator too.

This takes place in the 1970's and follows Linda's marriage to Robert, an evil man. He verbally and physically abused her. She worked with the FBI in order to bring him down before he kills her first.
The chapters were so long, I mean there were only 8 for an almost 400 page book, so that made the book feel longer to me. The domestic abuse is on page, which I would expect since this is true crime. It was really hard to listen when her son was on page crying for his mother wondering why she wasn't answering his call. Heartbreaking all around.
I do feel like I was duped in that I thought this was a newly released book, but turns out it's a re-release from 32 years ago. I don't know why, but that really bugs me. I don't mind books published years ago, but I'd prefer a heads up, but maybe that's my fault for not doing my research. Overall, I think true crime fans would like this one.
Narration notes: Jonathan did a good job and I stayed awake the whole time.

Cassie & Jon have moved into his childhood home, along with 4 year old, Teddy. Amy inserts herself into Cassie's life by offering to dog sit while Cassie begins a new job. Becca lives next door and is not too happy when she sees John is back in town.
It's obvious Jon, Becca and Amy know each other and the author does a good job of building up the suspense of what happened 10 years ago.
It’s books like this that I’m happy I never have any strangers in my house watching my child or dog. You never know what someone will do when no one is watching. I'd probably install a camera if it were me. All characters were pretty unlikable, except for Suki the dog, of course. Jon was the worst. It's weird, but they all seemed older then 28, not sure why, maybe I expect controlling husbands to be older.
Overall, a solid, fast paced domestic thriller. The twists weren't overall thrilling, but there nonetheless.
Narration notes: I thought they both did a wonderful job. They were properly frantic was necessary.

Listen there is a similarity with Marni's books, yet each character is still unique. Fast burn and full of steamage is guaranteed. They typically meet in a bar, too. You can count on a H that has gotten around town and then some, but has finally found someone to change his ways, is cocky and knows how to hit it and never wanna quit it. The h's are always strong and independent.
Here we have Cooper (29) & Rowan (29) who find themselves snowed in with all flights delayed for days, and only one bed available...whatever will they do?
Just when I think I have enough book boyfriends another is added to the list. This guy is so sweet and attentive, and protective. And when he got some unexpected news his response was absolutely perfect. Ford Dalton from The Single Dad is still my favorite, but Cooper comes in at a close second.
Rowan knows what she wants and isn't afraid to speak up, even when she gets the cold shoulder.
Overall, lovedy love loved. The epilogue just might bring a tear to your eye.
Series notes This series follows brothers in business together, so you might as well read the 1st one 1st so that you know what's up with the family. Then you'll be ready for Brady's story coming out in June 2024. This is also a spin-off of The Daltons series and some of those characters are involved here. Poppy & Mack Poppy is back in the town she grew up in visiting her Aunt Flora at The Wagging Tails Dog Home. As soon as she arrives there's a puppy that needs immediate attention, so she brings him to Mack's veterinarian practice. Mack is the new owner and not eager to abide by the previous arrangement the rescue had with the last owner to provide discounts.
As with the previous book this is heavier on the dog rescue side of things and less on the romance, which didn’t bother me one bit. I didn’t really feel a connection between Poppy and Mack quite honestly. Mack’s backstory is a sad one and I can kind of see why he didn’t want to give discounts.
Overall, I liked it okay enough, but Poppy was assuming too much for me, and you know what happens when you assume!
Series note I would say this is fine as a standalone. Ginny from book 1 is involved because she works at the dog rescue, but she wasn't a big part of this installment.
Narration notes: Sophie did a fine job once I got used to her accent.

Ginny & Darryl don't get off on the right foot when Darryl does not give Wagging Tails enough page time when he writes the article that they rely on for fundraising every year in the town newspaper. He seems to lack interest in the dogs at all, or so she thinks.
This is heavy on the dog rescue side of the story, which I didn't mind at all because if there's a book about a dog rescue then count me in! It's slow burn on the romance side and as always I didn't care for the 3rd act breakup. Can people just talk and listen please? Overall, a sweet story and a good introduction to the series.
