Are you looking for a new job or a promotion? Are you concerned about your image online? Then you need to read From Nine to Thrive by Marietta GentlesAre you looking for a new job or a promotion? Are you concerned about your image online? Then you need to read From Nine to Thrive by Marietta Gentles Crawford, an expert on personal branding.
In this short book, Crawford discusses the many aspects of building your personal brand as a way to create the career you desire. I highlighted over 150 passages while reading the book. Here are a few of her insights.
"When you reach a goal like getting a new job or getting promoted, it isn’t because someone empowered you—or gave you authority. It’s because you were courageous and worked your butt off to take the necessary steps to make it happen."
"Always be open to learning from others. You never know what you may learn."
"Personal branding is based in authenticity and delivering value to OTHERS."
"A good way to assess how you stand out is by going on LinkedIn and searching for professionals with similar skills."
"Spend 80 percent of your time building relationships and 20 percent of your time marketing your brand."
Crawford also shares some of her failures like the time she lost her temper at work or failed to get an internship she tried for two years in a row.
She says: "Many of my greatest lessons have come from failing terribly. Because failing is not personal. It’s not always your fault when things don’t go your way. But you also have to be honest with yourself to admit if it was."
"You see, thriving isn’t about not failing. It’s about not giving up, so you can live a life truly worth living. Here’s to better mornings."

This book will make a great coffee table book or a bathroom book. The book simplifies complex concepts with both a drawing and a written explanation. This book will make a great coffee table book or a bathroom book. The book simplifies complex concepts with both a drawing and a written explanation. Each concept is discussed on two-facing pages. On the left is a written explanation of the concept. On the right is a drawing that explains the concept. In my reading of the book, I started with the drawing and then read the explanation. I loved how the author used both the visual picture and the written word. This is not a book to be read straight through. You should dip in and out. I highly recommend this book....more
