I loved that it had me thinking about the game Candyland. I remember playing with it as a child and imagining what it would be like for my gingerbread piece if my game piece were real. This adventure was what I had in mind. The author captured my imaginings. The adventure reminded me a bit of Alice in Wonderland (the sisters) and Willy Wonka (the setting). I can still recall when I discovered it at the book store in the Ford City mall in Chicago. I have re-read so many times over the years. I never get tired of it even though I can tell you everything about it. When I saw this graphic novel version, I had to get it. I had just finished a heavy true crime book and was looking for something I could find comfort, or distraction, in. I needed a graphic novel for my library challenge, (which is coming to an end and I am woefully behind). Imagine my delighted surprise to discover Anne in a graphic novel! Mariah Marsden and Brenna Thummler have done an amazing job with this. As a graphic novel, the drawings are so important and Ms. Thummler did a wonderful job. I loved how so much of the novel I could recall by just looking at the drawings. Ms. Marsden also did an awesome job with writing out the major parts of the story. I could stay lost in Green Gables forever. I first checked this out in the Kindle Unlimited Program but decided I need this version for my soul. There have been so many setbacks this past year, and this year is only looking slightly better, but this graphic novel just brings joy to my spirit and my heart just floods with it. There is something so magical about Anne and Avonlea. My soul was nourished and my heart holds hope. I love that I can grab this and my mood is instantly better. I am delighted with it. I know this book is suppose to be for middle schoolers but I’m recommending it to anyone who loves Anne of Green Gables and to all those young or old who need their soul lifted. I’ve been going to Green Gables for 40 or so years and I’m just wonderfully enchanted with this version. ...more
