Each time I open a book, I am enveloped in every type of happiness reading can bring. I love the characters, the growth, the bonds both love and friendships create. I love the richness of the stories... *sigh* virtually everything about it.
What I don't love is the extremely high pricetag the publisher places on this EBOOK!! Yes, against all that I feel is just and fair, I forked over the $13.99 for the privilege of reading this story, even though there is no paper, no ink, no ability to loan my lovely to a friend so they can also become attached... because I hoped the joy in reading would make it worthwhile. And, it did.... kind of.
Honestly, I'm not sure. As I stated, I loved the story. It centers around Mercy trying to uncover a very evil band of witches who are trying to take over the tri-cities territory. It doesn't have all the edge-of-your-seat suspense previous intallments have - although there is plenty at the end - rather, it reads more like a mystery with Mercy uncovering hint by hint before destroying the evil. That is not a bad thing and it allows us to enjoy all the fabulous characters we have come to love over the years (although at this point, I had to rack my brain to remember some of them!) All our favorites are here, especially my personal favs, Adam, Zee, Tad, Stefan and, of course, Mercy.
My question remains, however. Was my utter enjoyment in reading a 384 page book worth paying the over-inflated cost? I'm still grappling with that. I don't want to miss a single second but I balk at being robbed to do it.... I'm leaning towards just putting my name on the library list for the next one....more

Man, I was glad I did! Although the steam was much higher than I usually read - or enjoy - the story was written in such a way that one doesn't just read about the feelings, fears and heartache of the characters, they FEEL and experience them right along with them! It is at times hearth-wrenching and most assuredly brought tears to my eyes. But, it is also funny and enjoys a warmth and tenderness that threads throughout the entire story....more

Another winner by a gifted author! For anyone who loves medieval knights who are larger than life and women who are strong enough to handle them and are looking for romance, romance and more romance. You just won't find any better than Kathryn LeVeque. And, Lord of Winter is the perfect example of all of the above. I was a little disappointed with the epilogue. I ached for more between the two main characters after the declaration leading up to the epilogue and during the blessed event. That was the focus of the entire story so it was odd that it ended with so much about the knights instead. Still the rest of the story was pure romance, escapist perfection!...more

It would have been a 4.5 - 5.0 star read if not for the completely unbelievable reaction Kelli had to that twist. With all the lies, and deceit, that left her devastated - a simple, "that's okay but don't ever do it again" was one I couldn't for the life of me imagine any woman, no matter how in love she may be would ever have. Even the most docile woman would be shocked, hurt and carry some serious anger issues. A few more pages to allow her to work through it (and for a good deal of groveling from the other side) would have sent this story from infuriating to amazing....more

First: A couple of questions: Would someone PAHLEEAASE tell me what it is about TOO STUPID TO LIVE heroines that authors seem to love? I mean NO common sense, completely unfreaking-believable characters who do things that not even the drunk and unconscious would consider. This book would be the perfect example of this enigma. Words can't even explain the actions of Megan throughout the first half of this story.
And another explanation is in order (because I am obviously not clued-in enough to figure this stuff out on my own.). WHY in heaven's name and hades address does anyone enjoy the hyper over-used trope of "hero" who falls in love with girl, does everything to make girl fall in love with him, all while spending the entire book whining that he's no good for her and must break her heart and leave rather than have the cajones to suck it up and stay? A.J. could win an award for this one.
Seriously... there's a comment area below. Help me understand before I start burning books (and believe me, there's a bonfire a'waitin.)
Not only are those two nail-chewing tropes abundantly used in this book, but for the final nail in the coffin (slammed in so hard the ground shudders) the "happy" ending shows our headstrong female suddenly becoming the doormat of all doormats when, after he has absolutely ripped her heart to shreds and left and FIVE MONTHS have passed, he suddenly shows up again. Says, "oops" made a mistake, I'm sorry, and she instantly jumps in his arms and forgives. Ta-da!!!!
Oh, let the screaming commence. GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Whew.... I needed that.... Now for the reason this actually rated a 3.0. No, I'm not bi-polar. This author is just a freaking good story-teller. In spite of all the ridiculousness used in the tropes for this book, her stories, themselves are really very good. And, I'm hoping now that she has gotten it out of her system, we'll be back to seeing awesome, hot love stories that actually make sense and are worth believing in....more

It's good but it is the exact telling of book number three - storyline, dialogue and all - just with Nikolas' thoughts thrown in. It really is interesting to get his POV but re-reading a story that took three books to originally write does get a bit monotonous so a lot of skimming was done. Many may enjoy the re-read, however. Personally, I would have preferred it if Nikolas' POV had been woven into the original stories. ...more

I did have a really hard time with Sara's TSTL tendencies. I understand that 17-year-olds can be impetuous and irrational but Sara suffered from a complete lack of common sense throughout the entire book. The story could have been a bit tighter as well, as it tended to drag in places. Still, it was a very interesting premise with loads of potential... and it did keep me reading! ...more

If you're an urban fantasy fan who also loves strong romantic elements, it doesn't come any better!! In this installment, Kate comes ever closer to the showdown with her father. An interesting element is also introduced in the form of her Father's #2 man, Hugh D'Ambrey, who has taken a personal interest in her at the same time her relationship with Curran (sigh) is in question. I would like to have seen a little more depth of discovery in Kate's and Currans resolution to their problem but, considering my love for this couple, that's to be expected. This one was also a bit slow in parts ( it takes over 70 pages to get to action of any kind this time around .) Overall, not quite as tight but still as addictive!...more

This is the first book where I have disliked a main character so strongly, yet still couldn't stop reading! It was the oddest and sometimes most frustrating feeling. The character of Dorothy was so devious and manipulative, I wanted nothing more than to put the book away and forget the whole thing throughout most of the book. I wasn't enjoying it, yet I just couldn't leave it alone. I had to discover the truth, right along with Laurel! When the last page is turned, all the angst and frustration turns into abject awe at Ms. Martin's incredible gift! It's impossible to even explain the reasons without spoiling the plot so suffice it to say, every single moment of annoyance is worth it ten fold once that back cover is closed!!...more
