As much as I adore this author’s work, I had to put it down to spare me some boredom and eye rolls. This book had zero-character development, a lot of time leaps and enormous sexual tension. Don’t get me started on its story line, it basically had none, to begin with. The whole point of this story seems to be leading to a/many passionate-kinky sex between the main leads (since they are devastatingly attracted to each other) and nothing else.
I have better things to read than the inner monologues about sexual fantasies. Sandy out! [image]
P.S: I never rate a book if not finished, but this one consumed my time and money, besides I read enough to know where it's going. #notsorry...more

That blurb, the lovely cover and the underlying theme of second chance romance was the reason I decided to give this one a try, with just few chapters in I started rolling my eyes and had an urge to bitch slap the heroine Jane.
Jane and Charlie have been friends since they were kids and after many years of being stuck in the friend zone they upgraded their relationship status to “friends with benefits” (at least that’s what I felt) which lasted for six days and she dumped his ass via note left on a NAPKIN. Now, one might wonder what could the reason be?
a) he had cheated on her or b) they had an huge argument or c) (my favorite)she found out his deepest darkest secret!
Actually it’s none of the above; brace yourself ‘cuz I’m going to reveal the mighty reason for her “so called break-up”
She saw him flirting with a waitress!!
(or that’s what she thinks and the poor guy has no clue, as she never returned his calls or messages) For the love of god, he was your best friend not some stranger you leave behind without even talking about it!!
Anywho, six months later, to save her company’s reputation and to win the bet which was there in first place, because her company’s new dating app claims to find a perfect match for any New Yorker in five days. And to prove that she has to find a perfect match for the NY’s top bachelor, making him fall in love within three dates, and this aforementioned bachelor happens to be her ex-lover, ex-friend Charlie Goodman.
He was supposed to be heartbroken or atleast mad at her but the minute she walks into his apartment he starts flirting with her, Yes FLIRTING! Dude..she broke up with you over a napkin without even giving you a reason plus she storms in like nothing happened!
Ok, he wants a payback by making her jealous so he actually agrees to go on a date but his constant flirting and her using all the statistical terms for love and romance pushed all my buttons.
Sorry, I really tried but this was not for me..

Not what I expected from the author of Puddle Jumping! I kept wondering is it the same author who created the magic of Colton and Lily? because the MC's here are hollow and one dimensional and their insta-hate or whatever happened in the beginning was not convincing. The story itself lacks dept and everything is happening so fast without any character development.
I hate it when I have struggle reading even if it is written by the author I adore!

But this book is way toooooo longg for my liking when the story is rather predictable. I tried on multiple occasions to pick this up from where I stopped, but I didn't see any engaging factor as the story is not going anywhere for me to be hooked.
I tried, I really did but right from the beginning my head was screaming "ABANDON SHIP!!" *contains spoilers*

The reason it didn't work out for me:
#1 Lucas and his inner monologues were driving me nuts! he constantly talks about his inner demon/beast/darkness *rolls eyes* all the time (Oh! at one point the author used the word blackness) I got that first time dude, why bring it up in every page like literally! This was the first time any male POV has annoyed me so much! [image]
#2 He talks about his clients with same darkness and they need his help to succumb it or drive it away but all I got was kinky sloppy sex, Is there any kind of sex therapy which I’m not aware of???!! [image] (Sorry my knowledge is limited to Dexter Morgan and his dark passenger!)
#3 Before Robbie dropping the 'L-bomb' she was just a flirty sixteen something neighbor; the minute she confesses her feeling to Lucas, he is suddenly obsessed with her and can't seem to stop thinking about her. [image]
#4 Robbie confronts Lucas about seeing him move the dead body from his house, instead of freaking out she says
“…….those cameras capture your entire front yard and the space between our houses. Be careful, okay?”
Like getting rid of the dead body is so fucking normal. No matter how many times he pushed her away or hurt her feelings she goes running back to him!! Robbie is the definition of DOORMAT!
#5 and then there is Audra, she pops out from nowhere, follows Lucas everywhere and can’t stop touching him just after knowing him for a day! [image]
You know you can’t continue reading when -there’s a sex scene going on and you are like [image]
I was unable to connect with neither the story nor the characters, the minute the insta-love/lust hit the plot I knew this story isn't for me. Maybe if I had read this book a month ago I would’ve even liked it but after reading mind boggling dark books from C.J Roberts, Tiffany Reisz and Tillie Cole in a row, I can’t even tolerate bullshit now!
Buddy read with my book twin Kirsten. I’m so glad you didn’t like it either *evils grins*
P.S: I never RATE abandoned book if I've not reached 50% mark (Ok! I made this up just now)

My basic book rule is 'read until the end', but it happens so rarely that I give upon them if and only if I'm not connected with the characters and if the story fails to evoke any kind of emotions in me.
That's what happened with this book, story felt like rushed! It was insta/lust/love which I never understood why? since the MC Emma guards her heart and that she was initially introduced as cold/bitter/uptight(she has her reasons for that). with all the bitchy persona I din't get how did she so easily warm up to Landon?, I had to immediately stop reading when their make out session felt boring to me....more

Not to sound rude but I didn't have problem with the story but I sure as hell didn't like the writing! It was too cheesy! Dialogues were direct, very formal and too easy, Usually conversation involving kids will be cute but here it was unusual like kids were handed a bad script!!. Bracken all of sudden calling Audra 'honey', 'sweetheart' and 'baby' irritated the hell out of me and I mean one day he's assigned the job to remodel her house next thing he says he wouldn't mind getting involved with widow with twins and don't mind being a father for them, then the sudden rush in story where she is hospitalized and Brecken happen to rescue her(as her best friend is not well and parents are not in town, her friends are busy with their kids. How convenient is that?? ) and look after her and her kids and she is OK with that? I mean she knows nothing about this guy and how can she trust him with her kids?? oh ya! "HE IS THE NICE GUY" it was said they were attracted towards each other but I didn't see the connection at all, except he's sexy and good looking and she's gorgeous! the characters were 30 plus but sounded like bunch of silly teenagers!
I love romance but there were no heart fluttering moment nor did I swoon, didn't see any magic in this one. ...more
