I love cozy mysteries, and I don't think I've read one yet that ties in my love of naturopathy!
Alex returns to Bellamy Bay to reunite with her long-lI love cozy mysteries, and I don't think I've read one yet that ties in my love of naturopathy!
Alex returns to Bellamy Bay to reunite with her long-lost relatives, and she discovers that they are water witches. They run an apothecary, and they infuse their herbal remedies with magic for healing.
When her aunt is charged with murder, Alex has to learn more about Bellamy Bay and her past to solve the mystery.
Great world-building! Bellamy Bay is just the type of place that I'd love to visit. I loved everything about the apothecary, and I'm intrigued to find out more about Dylan's family as well as Alex's relationship with both him and Jack.
I will be continuing on with the next book in this paranormal cozy series! ...more

I really wanted to love this one! I have a thing for cozy mysteries with cats and bookstores.
Let's start with what worked: I loved the setting of the bookstore in a castle! I also loved the setting of Shelby's home, which is a houseboat. I love that she befriended a cat and took him in. There is a spark between Shelby and Zack, and the family secret that is revealed.
Now with what didn't work: After the murder, the rest of the story just fell a bit flat for me. Not a whole lot happened, and I was a bit bored.
Now, having said all that, it is because of all the reasons that worked that I will read the next book in this series and give it another chance. I do want to see what happens with the family secret....more

No real sleuthing involved, and she did not even try to find out whose skull it was. More time was spent in deciding how to spend her fortune and on what clothes she will wear on dates and to her friend's wedding. Still, as I said, I do enjoy the writing and the characters and will continue with the series to see where it leads but my expectations for a real "mystery" are pretty low!...more

Reader/Listener, beware: You will crave sweets and have an insatiable desire to bake! The fudge cupcakes definitely sound yummy. That's the problem with the audiobook is that you don't have a written copy of the recipe.
Hannah is still waffling between Mike and Norman. Although they are very opposite, she has feelings for both and can't decide between her head and her heart. What she feels for Mike is passion, but Norman would be the smart choice because he is head over heels for Hannah and would treat her right and give her stability and security.
I found this installment very light on the mystery, with much more of the book surrounding Hannah's love life (or lack thereof), testing recipes for a cookbook and trying to figure out the "mystery" ingredient in the fudge cupcakes, her sister's pregnancy, and her mother's new beau. I don't mind too much because I do enjoy the characters and -- if you are in a baking slump -- one of these books will surely give you a fix!
Great narration, and I will continue to listen to the books in the series....more
