I couldn't give it more than 3 stars, though, because I just didn't care for the main topic of the book. Personally, I almost felt like the author was trying to push Santa Claus on the readers. I grew up "without Santa" -- no, my parent were/are nothing like Sonya's, but we never incorporated Santa into our Christmas celebrations -- but it felt like this story was saying that if you don't include Santa in the celebrations, you must be ridiculously strict & mean or something. It just left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak....more

And the relationship between Noah and Julie didn't really seem... genuine either. I don't know, it just felt kinda forced to me. I did really like the part of the story about trusting God wholly....more

But--I liked the basic storyline and I even liked the characters quite a bit. The writing style is enjoyable... this was a quick and easy read for me.
But-- I did have one problem with it. I have to say that it was too sensual for my taste. Too much kissing, making out, & near sex scenes. As a Christian book, I would have lowered the rating. However, understanding that this book doesn't seem to be considered Christian fiction (even though that's how it's listed on Amazon), I went ahead and gave it 2.5 stars.
Just a heads-up: If you consider "clean" to be strictly no sex and no bad language, then this book is clean. I, however, prefer to go a bit beyond that. So I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't call it.... "squeaky clean". And it gets worse as the story progresses....more

I mean, I did expect an enjoyable read -- this is one of Melissa Tagg's books, after all! ;) -- but I was still taken by surprise by how much I really enjoyed this book! If you know me well, you know that I'm not real big on Christmas books. I like them, sure, but I don't often truly love them. Well, I think I may have to officially name this as my favorite Christmas book. And can I just go ahead and call it quirky? Because it was. And I really like that!
I loved the writing style! I think the narrator was just what this book needed to make it better than simply "a really good read". I loved the characters! They were fun and likable. And quite believable, too, I think. I loved the storyline! Like the characters, it was quite fun and even rather believable-- more than I expected it to be.
I enjoyed this story and the way Melissa told it. I hope she writes more novellas like this one-- I'm excited to read more! And I'm also excited to read more about the Renwycke family! (Also, did I mention I love that surname? Just a little bonus, I guess. ;) )
UPDATE: Re-read this in 2016 and it's just as good the second time around!...more
