I found the couple who anchored this first issue boring which impacted my overall response. They were regular ol' straight humans in dress up complete with a baby Hazel as their Symbol of Hope™ and their Reason to Carry On™. Thank the goddess they could breed, I guess. What would have happened if they *gulp* only had each other? Leapt off the cliff to their poetic deaths, I suppose.
Most of the other characters proved intriguing, especially characters like The Stalk (sigh) and Prince Robot. The latter's character design pushed me to pay more attention to his body language. A weirdness that changes how I approach a character is what I value and hope to get more of. His storyline's accompanying political mess also offered better peeks at the wider society's makeup, at least on that planet, which I'm also curious about.
At its core, it's a very old fashioned science fiction romp with a bit of strange. That's not really my thing but if you dig the old timey Star Wars and throwbacks like The Mandalorian you'll like it fine....more
