I feel like this book is a bit difficult for me to review.
I'm wondering if I would have enjoyed this book more if I wasn't a social worker? I realized that unfortunately I just can't read books about child welfare system anymore since I'm so experienced with this stuff.
I found my attention span wavering in and out due to the nature of the story. But, I can definitely see how others would rate this so highly. I am glad that I was able to experience something by Gail Honeyman!

I do understand your quandary, Kendall. I used to be a clinical counselor and there are times I want to jump into the story and sort everyone out - lol. If I can catch myself soon enough I can usually distance what I know from what's going on in the book. Other times, it's nigh impossible. :)

Sorry this wasn't the right one for you Kendall. I understand how you look at books like this through different eyes. Hope your next read is a 5* for you!
Kendall...I think your analysis is correct. I'm sure you did see Eleanor within the context of your job experience.
Too bad this wasn't better for you Kendall. I can completely understand how your reading experience would have been largely affected by your professional experience. I hope your next book is fantastic!! :-)
I definitely understand your need to separate your professional life from your reading! I try to stay clear of any books that has to do with my business - reading is my escape!! Thanks for the honest review :)
Hi Jaline- yes I just found that to keep myself sane lol I need to avoid reading subject matter alongside my job. I can't be surrounded by it all the time.
Lindsay- thank you Lindsay! I'm just glad I did experience this and can now really understand my limits with certain books. I hope you enjoy it!
Marilyn- That's EXACTLY what it is Marilyn. You said it so perfectly! It's a stress reliever for me and I can't escape with books that are my profession. I'm glad you feel the same :).
Jen- thank you! :)
Jen- thank you! :)
Kendall,I've just finished it and loved it! I understand what you're saying about having a different perspective on it because you're a social worker. Probably too related to work to be seen as a book read for pleasure.
I can understand why this wouldn't be an enjoyable read for you, Kendall. I applaud you for finishing it. THANK YOU for the wonderful contribution you give to humanity.
Thank you Mary. Yeah a lot of people loved it. Glad you did.
Linda- aww thank you so much for that sweet comment! Yes it's nice to hear that... sometimes social workers unfortunately are associated with negative connotations a lot.

Great review, Kendall! I want to echo what Linda said. You have a very important job and it's definitely under-recognized. Thank you! :)
Thank you Nazanin and Jennifer! Yes my job is very hard! But thank you for the sweet and kind words!
Kendall, I too am a social worker and thought the same thing. I'm yet to finish but I think it will get a three from me too.
Hey Susie! Yeah just can't mix my reading and career 🙅. Sounds like we maybe have similar thoughts haha.
Sorry it didn't work for Kendall! Good that it helped you realize your limits. I have just recognized what mine are and what to avoid to keep the chatter out of my head. lol
Hahahaha Brenda! Yes I definitely know my limits now. And exactly I'm done with the chatter in my head lol.
