I am far in the minority here with this one. For someone who rarely is I am not sure what is wrong with me. Way too much drama here for me and with similarities to The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek I am just one BIG grump so I am moving on!

Doubt you are a grump Brenda as I’m not at all convinced by Jojo Moyes! Honest review!

Thank you so much, Ceecee! You are sweet. I am glad I am not the only one.

Thank you, Maureen! I really need one or I might continue on being a big grump. lol

Sorry it didn't work for you! (I had to read that twice. I thought you said you were a gump, not a grump. I was like hmm a gump...must be a Canadian thing.)
Glad you gave an honest review. We live in an age where everyone is frightened of saying anything negative about anyone even when it’s justified. It’s refreshing to see someone just tell it like it is. Sometimes a lemon is just a lemon.

Thank you, Tracey! I agree and so many people will just go with it even when they don't agree. I will admit my unwillingness and voice to something has left me feeling alone a few times and I am not very popular because of it.

Exactly. This author- I just don't get the following. Melodrama times four weeping and gushing. Tried two and not again.

I think this one is pretty much the melodrama version of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. There is even talk about some too close similarities of this one to it. Which I did notice. I will be passing on this author in the future.

Oh🙈No! just purchased this one yesterday and had reservations about the similarities too so not sure I am going to love this either. Nice review Brenda and appreciate your honesty.

Thank you, Dem! I hope you like this one since you purchased it. I did a Q & A with the author of Book Woman and really got some insight into her research and passion for her story. So I was really disappointed when I heard talk about the to close similarities.

I felt the same. I tried, really I did, but just could not get pulled into this one. Others are fantastic.

I have read there is some controversy over certain elements seeming to be plagiarized from the story The Book women of Troublesome Creek. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.buzz...

It's so unsetting! I just feel so bad for Kim Michele. Moyes gets all this attention and a movie out of it. Kim Michele wrote a much better story and leaves out all that drama but I guess people like drama.

I decided not to read JOJos. I absolutely loved The Bookwoman...and am was so disappointed to read about the similarities that JM’s book has to it. I have decided to support The Bookwoman as much as possible!

I feel the same way I really want to support Book Woman as much as possible. In my option, it's a far better-written story that doesn't rely on drama to move the story forward. I am into depth, not drama. lol

Elyse, I am so glad to see that! It's not often I feel this way so it's good to see there are a few of us that weren't a fan of this one. It makes me frustrated when authors use drama to move their stories forward instead of depth and get rewarded for it. lol Still grumpy. Heheee!!

Lol thanks for the honest review, Brenda!! It's nice to experience a less positive review....helps me hold more realistic expectations!! (Side note: can anything EVER compare to Me Before You??)

I hope it ends up helpful and this one works out for you! I read Me Before You a while back and liked it. I think that was another reason this one didn't work for me. This one didn't compare to it I think some stories drama just doesn't work and this was one of them. However, I am in the minority with those thoughts. So many glowing reviews for this one.

I agree. I would much rather support the book woman of troublesome creek. Extremely disappointing that it's not getting the attention it deserves and that there isn't much awareness of the similarities and JoJo Moyes gets the attention. Like being part of reese's book club. Very unfortunate.
Kathryn and Izzy, I don't think people really know how close the similarities are and that's a shame too I think because so many reviews are saying they are not similar. It's sad.
From what I see on twitter is Kim Michele is getting a lot of really good attention for The Bookwoman. She is reaching readers and not just reviewers and I think people see it's not all about the drama and that has some real substance to it. I think there is some separation as to what each is like in the way of substance and they both have different audiences. I agree though I wish Bookwomen would get more attention. Anyways it makes me feel better knowing her book is reaching readers and they are discussing it in events and book clubs.
Thank you for commenting!

I struggle so much with stories that use drama to drive the story forward. I glad to see you agree Kathy!
Great review Brenda! Sorry you didn’t enjoy this- there’s lots going on with the two books being very similar! I’d really like to know the truth
