Yeah, I mean that happened. This reads like a prologue to a King book because he just does not write short books like these.
I am excited to continue on with the series and think that this may deliver. Or just give me a reason as to why this is considered the Magnum Opus of Steve (it should be The Shining). But as a standalone, this book is weak. I do appreciate the language, which is beautiful but I was just not ready to read about a suave guy bedding women left and right so soon after Hyperion.
I will definitely continue with the series but this was pretty average.
