Naur because who decided on these covers?
I enjoyed this book exactly as much as I did the first one. I like the world building with its down worlders and the fantasy elements. I think they are pretty cool. However, this book did have its cringe moments of I-am-not-like-other-girls and she is so petite which I did not enjoy but we can't really do anything.
I am excited to see where this series is going to go, the stakes are slowly rising which is always a good part.
I do wish that the side characters- Isabelle, Alec, Simon, Luke, Magnus and all other potentially good characters are given more limelight in the future. I am sorry but the whole Jace and Clary thing is getting a little boring, maybe we should move on. These two were literally slipping each other the tongue in the faerie court istg.
I love Magnus' character but I have mixed feelings about him and Alec. Isn't he like a bazillion-year-old and Alec is basically a teenager? Even if Magnus looks 19, it is still pretty weird. But that is not the only weird relationship in this book, so we move on.
Honestly, this book is lowkey funny at times, like the whole Faerie court thing with the kissing was so funny. Also, there are random things that make me laugh because I am like ain't no way y'all are acting this, you are LITERALLY 16 y/o.
(view spoiler)[ 1- I can't believe Cassandra killed the Silent brothers, they were my favorite part of the book. They were such intriguing characters, did she not know what to do with them? Couldn't a single brother have survived? 2- Not Clary getting dumped twice at the end. Honestly, the blood-sharing thing changed Jace's mind. I am sorry, I don't make the rules here. 2- Finally, Simon became a more interesting character. I hope he grows a lot in the series. (hide spoiler)]

admittedly, nothing much happens in this book. if it had been any other series, I will be going on and on about the second-book syndrome. but, this is the tawny man series, this is robin hobb and fitz and fool and buckeep. this is hands down one of my favorite series and world of all time and I wished that it can go on and on.
it's either of the two things with fitz- too much caution or caution to the wind, I can be irritated by this but he has been like this from the very beginning. he still remains such a dear character to me, to think that he was used by everyone around him when he was just a wee lad and alone in this world. he is such a tragic character (view spoiler)[ AND MS. ROBIN HOBB KILLING HIS WOLF!!! (hide spoiler)] I love his and Fool's interactions, whenever they two talk, it makes me feel so giddy. (view spoiler)[can we also talk about the fact that fool is amber? AMBER? (hide spoiler)]
I love how this world and that of the liveship traders is coming together. it had me kicking my feet in the air whenever bingtown was mentioned. I hope wintrow and malta make an appearance in the next book. I will probably combust into tiny pieces if that happened.
buckeep still remains such a comforting place for me, its halls, and labyrinths of secret corridors. I also think that every character is developing so well. I love the dynamic between fitz, dutiful and thick.
as usual, can't wait to read the next book, but also at the same time, don't want this series to EVER!! end.
"Not much different from the wondrous and amazing world we have now. Boys falling in love with girls that aren't right for them. Wolves hunting on the snowy plains. And time. Endless time unwinding for all of us. And the dragons, of course. Dragons sliding across the sky like beautiful jewelled ships.”...more

Everyday we must ask ourselves- was the incest subplot really necessary
This book was fun yall. It was no epitome of YA Fantasy with flawless characters and a stunning plot (that will be Six of Crows) but it was still so much fun. However, I don't recommend listening to the audiobook because it was not good (while I am on the train now and can't look back.)
The plot was pretty well-paced with action being on the front. There were some 'YA Fantasy' moments but they were on the lower side. Like the two girls-Clary and Isabella. Isabella was pretty badass but it was almost watered down by making her vain and too beautiful. Clary on the other hand cannot even hold a dagger properly. I am still wondering can't she have asked someone for some sort of training or demon fighting 101 classes? maybe in the next book but I am not too hopeful.
Also, some of the decisions of the characters were dumb, just plain stupid. Cassandra verifies every two minutes that these are a bunch of 16 y/o we are dealing with.
Contrary to some beliefs here on gr, I liked Clary as an MC. She was self-aware, sometimes funny and who isn't a little bit annoying at 15. I also loved the fantasy elements of this book especially the silent brothers were my fav. Also, looking forward to seeing more of Magnus Bane.
Overall, read this if you want a fun and fast-paced YA Fantasy book.
this was fine. I am not a very big fan of the artwork but I liked seeing all of the different locations and just going to review all four issues here-
this was fine. I am not a very big fan of the artwork but I liked seeing all of the different locations and characters that were previously in my head. I did imagine them a lot different but that's not important. the most apt has to be bayaz, he is exactly how I imagined him to be. this doesn't in any shape or form mean that I didn't like this book. this was different that the first one but so much better. I have grown fond of Roland and absolutely love Eddie (I know something heartbreaking must be in the future, but one can hope)
now I am at the point where I am very excited to continue on with the story. I love the fact that the next book is called The Waste Lands, it just makes me so happy for no reason.
overall, a good read, way better than whatever the first book was....more

now that I am done screaming, this book was as good as the other two which is hard to say sometimes. I believe that my favorite of the three is The Blade Itself, I am partial towards the first book in a series, idk why.
such an array of characters, such deliciously dark, such magnificently cunning, so powerful yet so weak at times.
Jezal Dan Luthar⚔- I knew this man had it in him from the very starting. he was pompous, arrogant and so insufferable. but the way he grew throughout the series was stunning, although he is still not at his full potential. I hope I can see him growing in the future books and maybe building some semblance of courage.
I cannot express in words how dearly I wanted to fall in love with these books. It has a beautiful cover, snowy vibes, and Russian folklore;4.25 stars
I cannot express in words how dearly I wanted to fall in love with these books. It has a beautiful cover, snowy vibes, and Russian folklore; all of the elements of a potential favorite book.
This isn't to say that I hated the book, in fact, I quite enjoyed it. There are a few things that quite annoyed me, namely how everyone was acting so dumb. Vasilisa I can forgive, because she is barely an adult but Morozko??? Sir, you are supposed to be an eternal, immortal being and you don't realize that if she goes back to her village, they will tear her apart.
I was so intrigued by Kasyan. He and Vasya had something that she lacked with Morozko. Although I could guess his intentions from a mile away, I enjoyed his character.
My favorite character in this book was Olga. I love female characters that are not your badass stereotype but are still strong. I loved whenever she was on the page.
It goes without saying that Arden is masterful in building cozy and vivid ambiences. That is one of the strong point of this book.
Read this if you like fairy tales, Russian folklore, and slightly dumb but loveable characters. ...more

But wow Joe Abercrombie has me by the throat with this series (and Steven Pacey ofc ofc.) I am at the point where I was enjoying every POV which is a new thing to me. I did prefer Glokta and Bayaz's company but all in all, it was pretty fun let me tell ya.
And speaking of Bayaz. (view spoiler)[the ending of the quest???? like sir?? all that travelling for nothing??? (hide spoiler)]
Love the absolute morals that are being thrown into the air all the time. That is my fav part of the book.
Overall, gripping story and dripping with morally questionable characters. ...more

I am surpriseMy thanks to everyone who has ever recommended the audiobook. Wanted to insert Akshay Kumar's - Maan gaye budhe Raja but couldn't find it
I am surprised, I am excited, and I am in for the ride because Abercrombie did that. This is a masterclass in character writing (and I love character-focused stories)- every character in this book was so engaging. I was never bored in anyone's POV but of course, I waited for one character's POV in earnest- GLOKTA.
I will follow this book anywhere as long as Glokta is a character. I don't care if this book becomes a rom-com between Logen and Jezal, I just want the side commentary of Glokta. I don't know how to feel about Ardee atp, she is interesting but I surely prefer Ferro over her. As for Jezal, I enjoy his character, he is for sure a prick but a funny one.
I love that no one is good in this series, that everyone has some side villainous business going on....more

ROBIN WHEN I CATCH YOU WALKING SOMEWHERE UNATTENDED- nah I'm just kidding........or am I?
Sadly I have come to this realization that these books may not be for everyone. They are very character-focused and tend to be slow at times. Not to mention the whole six books (or at least three) that you have to read before this one. But I DON'T CARE. Buckkeep is so dear to me, Fitz is so dear to me, and this story is so dear to me.
Fool's Errand is a coming home to this absolutely breathtaking world that Robin Hobb has somehow crafted. I know that Fitz can be a little bit infuriating, but my man is learning, he has suffered a lot in a very young age and (I hope) he will come around.
Again, I can't wait to continue with this series.
(view spoiler)[ But I feel that this world wouldn't feel the same to me without Nighteyes. I don't know if Hobb will ever replace him or not. But since the moment I finished this book, I have felt an emptiness inside me, much like Fitz. That is how well Hobb writes her characters. BUT I AM GOING TO MISS NIGHTEYES (hide spoiler)]...more

I am excited to continue Yeah, I mean that happened. This reads like a prologue to a King book because he just does not write short books like these.
I am excited to continue on with the series and think that this may deliver. Or just give me a reason as to why this is considered the Magnum Opus of Steve (it should be The Shining). But as a standalone, this book is weak. I do appreciate the language, which is beautiful but I was just not ready to read about a suave guy bedding women left and right so soon after Hyperion.
I will definitely continue with the series but this was pretty average. ...more

Maybe I have been reading too any I should take this as a sign to NEVER delay reading the next book in a series because sometimes they are really bad.
Maybe I have been reading too any books about characters that will give an arm and leg for survival or maybe these characters are just dumb. I can excuse Jacob because he is a literal 16 year old but Emma and Addison who are centuries old had not an ounce of survival juice in their bodies, not even a single drop. If it weren't for Jacob and his 'ability', these people would have dropped dead.
I cannot put in words how irritated I was by these people. These people would have beaten down by the dumbest villain in the world because they were so stupid. Adding to the fact that this follow the two most boring characters of the entire series- Jacob and Emma.
This was so bad, I cannot even be properly disappointed. ...more

Everyone: Cardan is such a bad ruler, he is an asshole. You know what, FUCK CARDAN! Jude: Yeah, maybe I will...
Cardan doesn't deserve Jude, you don't deserve Jude, I don't deserve Jude. She is stunning. But, honestly, even if she ended up taking some questionable decisions, I still REALLY like her which shocks me. I think it's because she is resilient, and a total badass.
The first few chapters of this book were slow but then the action went DOWN. I do realize the flaws with this book, but the adrenaline this book gives me, it had me reeling at 5 am in the morning (love books that absolutely demolish my sleep schedule)
Also the moment I start feeling a little bit of something for Cardan, he did something so out of pocket, so nefarious that I was like???? Like sir???...more

"We are on the cusp. We are a coin spinning in the toss, a card fluttering in the flip, a rune chip floating in still water."
The Ship of Destiny had me in its clutches from the moments I started reading this book. If you would have told me I would have loved it this much when I started this series, I wouldn't have believed you.
I only had two things in mind before starting this book - Wintrow and Malta. As long as they were treated well, I would have been happy. And Robin Hobb delivered.
Malta, what an absolutely stunning character. I loved whenever we were reading her POV. She really flourished in this book.
Although Wintrow didn't have such a big development in this book necessarily, I still adored his character and everything he goes through.
Kennit tho, there are just some things from which you can never come back. I absolutely loathed his character towards the end.
One thing I loved about Ship of Destiny are the female characters. From the beginning I loved the little Bingtown moments with the Vestrit ladies. Every major and minor character- Serilla, Rache, Ronica, Keffria, Althea, Etta, Amber, Malta (ofcourse) were so complex and layered. I loved seeing these ladies and their stories.
Robin Hobb has also brilliantly set a world for her forthcoming books. I can't wait to read them....more
