I liked this book, although I don't know if it's the start of a new series a not. Honestly I think it works well as a stand-alone title.

18. The Sisters Grimm Book 1 The Fairy-Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley

Read this all in one day, mostly in my backyard soaking up the sun. What a fun story! I think if you love the Shrek movies then you'd get a kick out of this series. It was really enjoyable to read about all the different fairy-tale characters, especially the ones that had assimilated into the human world. And I have to say that I didn't figure out what was going on until almost the same time as the girls, but I liked that it kept me guessing. I'm definitely going to read the next in this series!

So I picked up my pace a bit in May and I'm hoping that I can continue to do so in order to read 50 by the end of the year! This group really has motivated me too, so thanks!
19. Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead
Finished 6/5/2009

You know that book that's been on your shelf forever that you finally decided to read, and when you're finished with it you think: why didn't I read this sooner? That's what Succubus Blues was for me; an overall engaging, funny, sexy, suspenseful read. I love the world that Richelle Mead has created, and I can't wait to read more!

I don't know if manga and graphic novels are counted here, but I figured - why not?
I love this series, it's hilarious.

21. Book of Shadows by Cate Tiernan
Finished 6/7/2009

My review:
I enjoyed this book; it was a nice quick read. It reminded me a lot of the series The Secret Circle No. 1 The Initiation and The Captive Part I by L.J. Smith. I read those when I was a teen and I think if I had found Tiernan's series then I would have eaten them up as well.
This book sets up the series and it ends at a place where you absolutely need to pick up the next one to see what happens.
I don't read a whole lot of books on witches anymore, I think I grew out of them a bit when I graduated high school, although this book was sort of nostalgic for me. I remember going to occult bookstores when I knew my parents, well, at least my Dad, would be upset if they knew that's where I'd been. I think just about every girl goes through their phase that includes Ouija boards, "seances", and playing light as a feather - stiff as a board. I liked reading Book of Shadows because it made me remember all those silly times with my friends. Although we never went skinny dipping in the moonlight ...
I enjoyed this book a lot and I'm definitely going to have to start the next one soon!

This book had way more sex than I thought it would but I still enjoyed the plot when it was there. I'll probably read the rest in this series but not right away.

I enjoyed it, and I'll read the next one when it's out in paperback. I like a good suspense novel every now and then for a change of pace. I think if you liked Silence of the Lambs (I've seen the movie, haven't read the book) you'd like this story as well. It's basically the same plot in a way except the genders of the serial killer and the cop are switched. Although the relationship between them is more developed than that of Hannibal Lecter and Clarice.

I know this seems like a strange book for me to read, but I read a couple pages of this at work a few months ago and I thought it was pretty funny. So today it was so slow that I decided to read the whole thing. There were parts that I actually laughed out loud! I enjoyed this a lot and I'm going to have to read the rest of this series now.
