“I do not know how long I lay like that before the door eased open and I saw Paul framed within it. His face was deathly pale, his eyes red and wet, and I felt a strange stab of anger, as though I wanted all the grief to be mine alone.”
Katie Lumsden, The Secrets of Hartwood Hall

“And all I could think of was that I had seen this man undressed, that I knew the precise shape of his arms beneath his shirt, that I had touched every inch of him, kissed his neck and mouth with hungry kisses, that he had clasped me to him fast.”
Katie Lumsden, The Secrets of Hartwood Hall

“I said nothing. Too many reasons, too many sins. But he was right. It did not feel wrong. It felt less wrong than anything had in a long time.”
Katie Lumsden, The Secrets of Hartwood Hall

Francis Katie:

This is from the Jacksonville, FL library Fantasy & SF newsletter. They mentioned you and your book!

The Last Heir to Blackwood Library
by Hester Fox

Yorkshire, England, 1925: Ivy Radcliffe inherits Blackwood Abbey and its mysterious library, which may be responsible for the untimely deaths of the estate's previous residents.

Reviewers say: This "atmospheric historical fantasy" (Publishers Weekly) full of ghostly visitors, strange happenings, and sinister locals harboring secrets makes "a fine addition to the gothic genre" (Booklist).

You might also like: Simone St. James' Silence for the Dead or Katie Lumsden's The Secrets of Hartwood Hall.

Rishi Hi Katie,
I have been following you on YT for a while now (That sounded creepy and sinister) just a random question, in Victorian Literature we read and hear a lot about Governesses but not so much in Regency and Georgian books, Why is that?

Not a Penguin English Library, but I'd recommend Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day as a great light summer classic read. Otherwise, go for some Jane Austen, some Barbara Pym or Wilkie Collins. If you tell me a few of your favourite classics, I can recommend some more specifically for you!

Janneke Hey Katie,

Within a few weeks time I am going on vacation to France. Because of your enthousiasm I started with Barchester Towers (I know that The Warden is the first in this series but I've heard tales that it is not a very interesting story and not that important).

I am afraid that one book is not enough for me as I am a fast reader. Do you know any classic books (Penguin English Library) for me that is fun to read in the summer?

Thanks a lot!

Viacheslav Thank you for accepting my friend request!
