This reads like a Victorian novel (derogatory) in its excessive level of detail and convoluted sentence structure. Though each individual sentence is well crafted, combined together it mostly reads as tangential nonsense. There are some gorgeous line ...more

Friedrich Nietzsche
“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.”
Friedrich Nietzsche

Ernest Hemingway
“His talent was as natural as the pattern that was made by the dust on a butterfly's wings. At one time he understood it no more than the butterfly did and he did not know when it was brushed or marred. Later he became conscious of his damaged wings and of their construction and he learned to think and could not fly any more because the love of flight was gone and he could only remember when it had been effortless.”
Ernest Hemingway

Irvine Welsh
“The train was nearly twenty minutes late, an excellent performance by British Rail standards.”
Irvine Welsh, Trainspotting

Christopher Isherwood
“I hadn't even the necessary credentials for schoolmastering - that last refuge of the unsuccessful literary man”
Christopher Isherwood, Lions and Shadows: An Education in the Twenties

Mahmoud Darwish
“Fame is the enemy of instinct and spontaneity, the difference between what is said and what ought to be said, and the transformation of one person into two”
Mahmoud Darwish, A River Dies of Thirst: Journals
