ABOUT
After Hurricane Sandy flooded their private studio and metal shop, DB Lampman & Scott Van Campen decided to open their doors to the community. Thanks to funding from the NYCEDC and the many volunteers who gave their time, skills and advice, SI MakerSpace opened on October 28, 2013.
Since 2013, the non-profit has helped thousands of creative entrepreneurs get their start and became a cultural anchor in the borough. In early 2019 we partnered with the New York City Economic Development Corporation to open the Futureworks MakerSpace at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. Because of this expansion, our organization re-branded to MakerSpace NYC, becoming
Nyc's Largest and Best Equipped Makerspace.

When Staten Island Makerspace first opened in 2013 the empty lot across the street was filled with 18 burned out, flooded, and smashed up abandoned vehicles. Thanks to the help of the NYCEDC, our NYC Councilwoman Debi Rose, Staten Island Borough President Jim Oddo, many outstanding volunteers, and community partners we are transforming the derelict lot into a useable community space.
It is always evolving and hosting brand new musical, theatrical, artistic and literary events.
Every year we host 6 artists in our residence program
