Bonus Coins (also formatted as Bonus coins)[1][2] are golden coins that appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. They are the successor to Kremkoins from each game's predecessor, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. Dixie and Kiddy Kong can obtain a Bonus Coin by completing a Bonus Area. Once they have obtained it, the Kongs cannot obtain another by completing the challenge again, as the Bonus Coin is checked out. The symbol on the Bonus Coin is identical to the one on every Bonus Barrel.

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble![edit]

Bonus Coins are items in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. Most levels have two of them to collect, but a few levels in Krematoa have three Bonus Coins, and Rocket Rush has none. Later bosses also drop a Bonus Coin when defeated, instead of a required part for Funky to build one of his vehicles. Furthermore, in Krematoa, each level on the map is obstructed by a boulder, which can only be destroyed if the Kongs pay 15 Bonus Coins to Boomer so that he can demolish the boulder obstructing that level on the map. (This concept is somewhat similar to how the Kongs pay a Kremkoin toll to Klubba per accessing a Lost World level each). For the final level, Rocket Rush, Boomer instead charged 25 Bonus Coins to destroy the boulder blocking the path to it. There are 85 Bonus Coins in total, though the Select Game menu has a cheat code that allows the player to obtain every Bonus Coin prematurely, by inputting L Button R Button R Button L Button R Button R Button L Button R Button L Button R Button and then enter WATER, all while highlighting a saved game. If done correctly, the player characters have to swim into a waterfall left of Bazaar's General Store and enter its secret cave. Completing the challenge gives the Kongs every Bonus Coin that they did not have previously, though failing the challenge does not allow the Kongs to retry it.

Thirteen more Bonus Coins were added to the remake, increasing the total to 98 Bonus Coins. The extra Bonus Coins are obtained from completing Bonus Areas within levels of Pacifica and defeating Kroctopus in Razor Ridge. Since there are more Bonus Coins, Boomer now charges 18 Bonus Coins for each of the first four boulders and 26 for the last boulder blocking the path to Rocket Rush. There is a different way to obtain every Bonus Coin prematurely, which is by inputting "AQUA" from the cheats menu and then starting a new game.

Donkey Kong Land III[edit]

Bonus Coins are items in Donkey Kong Land III. Collecting all 78 of them of them unlocks the Time Attack mode. Bonus Coins can be used to play the cards game from a Bear's Sheepy Shop in each world, though the Bonus Coin fee differs between each of the worlds. Any of the paid Bonus Coins are not subtracted from the total number.
