Yuxia Cui, PhD., is a program officer in the Division of Extramural Research and Training (DERT) at NIEHS. Cui oversees a portfolio of grants that are focused on emerging technologies and integrated approaches towards improved exposure and response assessment in environmental health research. These span sensor technologies, omics-based approaches, novel biomarkers, computational and informatics-based tools, as well as other innovative approaches that enable a better understanding of the dynamic relationship between the complex environment and human health.
Cui joined DERT in 2013 to support the NIEHS’s efforts on exposome. Since then she has served as the program coordinator for the NIEHS Children’s Health Exposure Analysis Resource (CHEAR) and co-Director of the Human Health Exposure Analysis Resource (HHEAR) and represented NIEHS on multiple inter-agency committees related to exposure science and the exposome. Cui is also a member of the NIH Common Fund Metabolomics Program leadership team, serving as the Program Director and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Program.
Cui received her doctorate in Environmental Toxicology and a certificate in the Integrated Toxicology and Environmental Health Program (ITEHP) from Duke University, with the focus on toxicogenomics and molecular toxicology. Between 2008 and 2013, Cui conducted postdoctoral research in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) at NIEHS, where she studied off-target/toxic effects of therapeutic drugs and ionizing radiation-induced DNA damage response. Cui also has a B.S. and M.S. in environmental science.
