Motivation
This new Wikidata property related to art (Q27918607) would of course improve our coverage of fine art (Q219625). Thierry Caro (talk) 21:03, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

- Comment. I'm getting doubts about including this id/link to this database/website as a wikidata identifier. The reason is that, it seems the main value of the site is being a repository or index of links to other sites where artwork is present to view or download (ie: "The Ultimate Guide to Great Art Online"), but a big amount of that links are broken or not linking the right pages (surely because its hard to maintain the 160,000 links the website advertises to have in its database). Doing a quick check in the 3 examples op put in the request (http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/benoist_marie-guillemine.html http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/miro_joan.html http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/wesselmann_tom.html) i find that more than 50% of the links are broken, so i ended up doubting the value of Artcyclopedia as an identifier and as a external resource site.--Zeroth (talk) 22:26, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
- Somewhat opposed; I don't view this web site as a reliable source or authoritative with respect to art or artists. It's not tied to any institution, like most identifiers. We will eventually have lots of artist identifiers without it. Outriggr (talk) 00:03, 18 June 2018 (UTC) I would further add that much of the value of this site is in its link collections. These link targets to museums, etc., are the properties that we should be focusing on, if they don't already exist. I expect to be in the minority here. Outriggr (talk) 02:40, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- Thierry, any comment? Nomen ad hoc (talk) 09:49, 2 July 2018 (UTC).
- This is widely used on different Wikipedias regardless of the problems mentioned above. So there is a powerful incentive to have a property here, regardless of the actual quality of the content. Thierry Caro (talk) 09:51, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
- I think we shoudnt use an identifier that lands the user in pages with half the links broken. In fact, i think its a bad idea that wikipedia pages link content there (maybe the links were added in a time where the site was better maintained?).--Zeroth (talk) 13:50, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
