Watercrafts vs. ships vs. boats
[edit]Some simple definitions to help distinguish terms used to categorize means of transportation that use water:
- Top-level class for any type of vehicle navigating over or under water.
- This item should only be used with subclass of (P279) to define more specialized types of vehicles.
- List of first-level watercraft specializations / Top 2 subclass levels

- Ship subclasses: Top level types / Top 2 levels / Full hierarchy of ship types and classes
- Boat subclasses: Top level types / Top 2 levels / Full hierarchy of boat types and classes
- Top-level classes for any type of underwater vehicle (Q19623198). Subclasses of watercraft (Q1229765).
- Submarines are larger vessels.
