Pronunciation?

How does he pronounce his name? LEP-pard or lep-PARD? (Assuming, of course, that it's not Smith or something...) --Wspencer11 (talk to me...) 18:48, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Usual UK pronunciation was LEP-pard. It's a little chancy to say that he was "one of the first major conductors to perform baroque opera" - since that was in fact how he made his name. And it isn't just an issue of musicology to find his editions of Cavalli and "Poppea" for Glyndebourne a problem - he more or less rescored them all for modern orchestral ensemble, and in the case of Cavalli, added material from other operas. Immensely successful though they were, in the theatre and on record, they aren't often revived these days, where texts closer to the original are preferred.
