Setting?

[edit]

There is a lot in this film that made me think it's in the fictional town of Thayer, NY rather than Massachusetts. I believe that we see NY license plates on cars, for example. I know the Pilgrim Bus Lines is Massachusetts, but could certainly be going upstate. The Meredith and Julie characters come up from "Bedford", which could be MA or NY. Any way to resolve? -DKM- (talk) 01:06, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In one of the early scenes, Thad and Patrick's car apears to have a Mass. License plate, and they are taking gift bags out of the car, one of which says "Copley Place" on it. It doesn't neccesarily prove that Thayer is in Mass., but that Thad and Patrick are from Mass. However, the license plate and the bag do lend some credence to the idea that Thayer is in Mass. 151.203.232.140 (talk) 13:25, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

who edited this?

[edit]

Whoever edited this, apperently the "manager" of wikipedia, really needs to work on this because you cannot say the movies sucks, over and over again in different ways, whoever wrote it, pretty much sucked <-----unuseless person

Last Line in Plot

[edit]

Sadly, Sybil has passed away, but she has had time because of the events of the Christmas before to make sure the people she loved were happy.

This is very poorly written, and I can't understand what it means in order to fix it. Locano 04:12, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've made an edit to it. Should be much easier to read now. The whole article needs a face lift when it comes to grammar, though.Tigermave 03:41, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've made some edits to the plot - and hopefully it reads better now. NYCTRI 10 Jan 2007

My god. Someone clean up this article. I have had trouble sleeping the last two weeks and this movie, HONEST TO GOD, cured my insomnia. The entire description of the plot is not NPOV simply because it makes it sound good. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.186.93.165 (talk) 12:30, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

filming location

[edit]

The house used in this movie was in Riverside, CT. Not Madison, NJ. The sidewalk scenes in front of the stores were Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich, CT.

Amy's Occupation

[edit]

In a dinner scene, Ben identified Amy as a teacher, Is that in addition to being aa grad student, or is the page just wrong?--Absurdity 14:43, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sign Language

[edit]

During the scene where the family is signing but not speaking (and it is hinted that it is a dirty phrase being signed), what is actually being signed? --Younmm23 (talk) 03:32, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i think it's some christmas song... cant recall the name —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.201.240.157 (talk) 16:56, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

Can an American editor explain the significance of the title to everybody else? Is it just a feeble reference to Sly and the Family Stone, or does the phrase have a wider meaning in American culture? (I know the principal family is named Stone, but this is presumably just to fit the title rather than the other way around). --Ef80 (talk) 19:08, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The family name and also the engagement ring 38.34.100.11 (talk) 08:22, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Too Much Detail in “Cast” Section

[edit]

I haven't seen the film and deliberately skipped the plot summary to see which actors portrayed the characters, only to find major plot spoilers in the first line of character description. Far too much detail- beyond character names, there should really be very little here. Cryinmeehan (talk) 01:01, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cryinmeehan, while Wikipedia:Spoiler exists and we don't care about ruining people's experiences you may have a point about the length of plot description. MOS:FILMPLOT says 400-700 words for the plot. I don’t have a word counter handy to check. MOS:FILMCAST says various things, but falls back on consensus to decide the content. I don't really have an opinion on the cast section as-is, I am just linking the relevant guidelines. Commander Keane (talk) 01:45, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
