Template talk:Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston
Initial discussion
[edit]This is good. Brings a little clarity to a complex situation. However, I always have questions:
I see William J. Day Boulevard which is one of the Old Harbor Reservation Parkways. Which way do we want to go with the roads that have articles as part of a larger group? With this one in particular, either we need to remove Wm J. Day and add Old Harbor, or we need to add Columbia Road and Old Colony Avenue.
What about Morton Street, Breakheart Reservation Parkways, Fellsmere Park Parkways, and Lynn Fells Parkway? Are they oversights or do you have something in mind?
I'm not sure I'd include the image. Because the text doesn't wrap around it (in Explorer and Firefox, at least) it takes space the whole height of the box and makes the box 25% deeper.. . . . Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk • contribs) 16:22, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
- I feel like the grouped parkways should be split up. The articles should be about each road, not some combination of intersecting streets. Also per the usage guidelines for navboxes, there should be no redlinks or pages that don't exist included. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 00:34, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- I did not see these posts, and had already done most of the posting to articles earlier. Here are some answers: several parkways are no longer under DCR control, due to the creation of MassDOT on November 1. Among these are Morton Street and the Old Harbor part of Columbia Road. The template as a whole is still under construction. I understand the redlink issue; the guideline is: "Red links should be avoided unless they are very likely to be developed into articles". Believe it or not, I plan to stub some of these very soon, and actually thought to myself "I hope someone like Grk1011 jumps on some of the redlinks", knowing you have a lot of DYKs I considered it a semi-suggestion. But, I will comment them out if new articles aren't created by this weekend. I couldn't find anything that firmly says don't have navboxes that don't include the page on which they are placed, so I join Jim in wondering why a few were deleted for NRHP articles. I don't know why they can't be there, there probably aren't going to be any full list NRHP navboxes, the lists are way too long, but that's a discussion for you and Jim to have if you haven't already.
- On the Breakheart Reservation Parkways, Fellsmere Park Parkways, and Lynn Fells Parkway. There is some overlap with what has been created for NRHP listings versus the Fellsmere, Fells Connector articles. Breakheart just redirects to Breakheart Reservation, already listed so it is somewhat unneeded. I will add Lynn Fells, that was an oversight. I am also renaming the redlinked-for-now WJD Blvd to Day Boulevard, that is by far the more common name. The only issue there is WJD appears on a lot of maps. Another Southie issue is that Carson and M Street Beaches, plus Pleasure Bay, are all bunched on the http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/metroboston/castle.htm webpage. However, Carson has an article as does Castle Island. These are issues that should probably addressed in a more central location. I believe it would be best for us to continue discussing these issues of a more general nature on the talk page I just created, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Massachusetts/Metropolitan Parks Task Force or WP:MPTF. By the way, I agree about the image and am removing it. Sswonk (talk) 02:33, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- Haha, I was gonna try to DYK the Lynnway. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 02:39, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- Do it, that would be great. Let me know if you want me to make a map. Along with trying to get Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston going toward a higher state, my next big project is a map for the whole system, possible with an imagemap like the one on the DCR page. - If you could make maps for the Lynnway, Lynn Fells Parkway, and the Fenway that would be awesome. Along the same lines as the one you made for Furnace Brook I'm assuming. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 12:27, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- It takes a couple of hours per, and real life being what it is this may take a couple of days, but yes I can get those for you. Don't forget to check out the new discussion page at WT:MPTF, it's a good idea to notify there anytime you plan to start new articles, to avoid duplication of effort. AWB Update
[edit]Once we decide what belongs here, I'll do an AWB run through the whole list and add the template to them all. Beats doing them one at a time all hollow. . . . . Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk • contribs) 16:22, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Park Drive
[edit]Is park drive part of the system? I assumed it was, but can't find anything that actually says so. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 15:52, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
